[Comment ... Almost!] And now that I have seen it .... Once again My Hate List number 1. Marco Inaros. I hated his fake drawl from the start ... But let's add the death of Ashford to it since some people thought that was not enough of a reason somehow.

Golladan

I think it could be time. So long as you don't give much away.

Golladan

My body is ready for the best season. Remember, the opening will have changes, some big some small, in every single episode.

Golladan

Spartan: "Her timing couldn't be better." Avasarala: "Bobby, your timing sucks." :D Naomi was around 19 when she had Filip. Also that wasn't Marco in Mars. I believe it was Filip.

Hans Engelen

Nothing to give away ... I hate his fake voice drawl ... Don't ask me why but every time he speaks it annoys me to no end. But like I said I suppose the death of Ashford is an additional reason. I have come to change my mind about him (Ashford) over the course of a series of re-watches. First time around I was not all that invested in his character. I guess the reactors I have watched since have slowly changed my mind given that most have had markedly more positive response to him then I did at first.

On Ilus I think the tsunamis washed a lot of the dirt away that was covering all the constructions.

Shawn Anomaly

OMG....S5 on the way and as always, you two are not ready for what you're about to see. There's no way you two can even begin to fathom what's going to happen but it's coming! I can't wait to see you two go through the journey that's S5. There's differing opinions of course but S5 for ME swings as hard as S3 in the amount of insanity that occurs! It is crazy to think that there are only 16 episodes left but at least it will be one hell of a ride!!!

Sheri

Pudgey you were close... when the doors closed as the bomb went off on Mars, it wasn't Marco, it was Filip!

Sheri

Spartan I'm so happy you plan to read the books. They are excellent!

Sheri

Now that you've seen this episode, you can watch an EXCELLENT Ashford/Drummer fan edit called "The Expanse Drummer and Ashford | Live as a Belter" I'm not asking you to react to it, just enjoy! It's one of the best fan edits I've ever seen. https://youtu.be/6BgX8a3W1S0

I agree 100% with Spartan about the change of actor for Arjun (Avasarala's husband). Michael Benyaer (Season 4 Arjun) was a perfectly good actor, but his version of Arjun seems (to me, anyway) a lot less warm than the Brian George (Seasons 1-3) version. Brian George just had a natural charisma and telegraphed with every body movement, every facial expression, how much he loved Chrisjen. Benyaer played Arjun as a bit more detached, more academic, maybe, which I suppose fits with his job as a university professor, but it's just not the Arjun we knew. I agree that Brian George would've played the deteriorating relationship with Chrisjen differently than Michael Benyaer did. I think George would have played it as more sad and disappointed, whereas Benyaer played it more as angry. It just felt wrong. I think some of the blame for this goes to the writers and directors as well, but regardless of who is responsible, I think it was an unfortunate character misstep (in a show that has very few of those). Ashford kind of had to die because David Strathairn is just too busy an actor to have given them three seasons. But everybody loved working with him, from all reports, and he actually really loved the show and the character; it was Strathairn that approached the production team and asked if they could work him into Season 4 because he was so taken with the role and with the quality of the writing. His character (who actually is kind of an ass in the books) was only originally intended to appear in Season 3, but everybody so enjoyed having him on the show that they jumped at the chance to write him in to Season 4. His Season 4 arc was created for the TV show, and became a fan favorite, for good reason. It's too bad he couldn't stay longer, but David Strathairn is, I think, one of the most compelling and accomplished character actors of his generation, and The Expanse was lucky to have him for as long as they did. Sucks that Ashford had to die, but it'll set up (as you predicted) some great character moments for Camina Drummer in season 5, so it works. About the episode count: Season 1 was 10 episodes; Seasons 2 and 3 were 13 each. 4 and 5 went back to 10 episodes each, and yeah, unfortunately, season 6 was only 6. Season 6 was originally planned to be 10 episodes, but basically Covid happened and raised production costs tremendously. Additionally, Season 6 was likely more expensive per episode because it had more sets and locations than the others (you'll see when you get there). And, despite what we all know to be the show's greatness, it never became the big prestige property or dominator of the cultural zeitgeist that Amazon was hoping it would be, so they decided not to renew it beyond the sixth season. So, for all those reasons, they had to condense Season 6 a bit. But they did a really commendable job of it, I think, and I believe most fans agree. But there's still time for that. Seasons 5 is exceptional, in my opinion, quite possibly the best of the show, and I think it's fair to say many agree. That includes the cast and crew, who said at the time that they felt it was the best work they ever did. But Season 5 also takes some narrative risks that rubbed some people the wrong way. So there's a minority, but a pretty vocal minority, that disliked it. It'll be interesting to see how you guys feel about it. But I'm sure you're going to love it. Lets go!

Tony Camas

Irony, thy name is Spartan. 🤣

Tony Camas

Not that I'm going to change your mind here, nor would I try, but obviously Marco is pretty despicable character (something that becomes even more apparent as the show proceeds), so of course you're *supposed to* hate him. I do take your point about his line deliveries (I'm not sure "drawl" is the right word, but I think I get what you're getting at) and that's a choice maybe some other actors would have made differently. But for my part, I actually thought it was very apropos. Marco is very melodramatic in his entire affect -- most charismatic, narcissistic figures are -- so the fact that he speaks in such an overblown fashion seems very much on point to me. It's annoying, for sure, but I think it's consistent with his character. (YMMV, of course)

Mo

Onto season 5!! So happy you’re going to read the books. The book season 5 is based on is fucking insane and gives me goosebumps every time I read it. Love this show so much and this ep was so good.

N7Phoenix115

So glad to have joined up and found you both for this journey! Love the reactions and your in depth takes on things and conversations before and after. I am hurting at the thought of only having 16 more episodes of this with you both but it is going to be a strong 16!!! Looking forward to it!

Mo

Still hoping they decide to make the last 3 books. Majority are satisfied with the way they wrapped up season 6. I’ve trusted these writers since the beginning

AntiGrav1ty

Great reaction and great discussion as always. Season 5 is going to be amazing.

Golladan

And it may not make up for a full episode, but at least season 6 has those extra bonus videos that take place between episodes.

Fara

I think the actor that played Marco did an amazing job, especially if you've read the books.

AnastasiyaK

Can’t believe yall are done with season 4 already!! We’re going through this show way too fast! But I’m so excited for season 5! It is my favorite season right next to season 3!! I honestly can’t decide sometimes which season I like better.

Tony Camas

Yes, absolutely. S & P, when you get to Season 6, make sure you look out for the "X-Ray Features" or "One Ship" series. People will tell you about them a lot when you start on that season, so I won't jump the gun here. But make sure you find out about those and watch them. They're awesome.

AnastasiyaK

Pudgey, you were almost right when you were saying that was Marco on Mars…If you look super closely, you can actually see that it’s Filip! So, you were right, it did look like Marco because it was Marco’s son!

Mama Browsss

I can't watch for some reason. Message says to sign in to prove I'm not a bot. I logged out, rebooted, switched browsers, but still get that error when I try to play the video. Anyone else?

spartanandpudgey

this seems to be either a youtube or patreon thing. havent heard of anyone have this issue. let us know if you resolve it or try contact Patreon support, this sounds frustrating so we hope it resolves itself asap

Paul

I had exactly the same reaction when I reached S5 and realized there were only 16 episodes left! And Spartan you're right, given the time jump at the end of book 6 to 7, waiting a few years for the actors to age makes sense. Will we get another 3 seasons, no guarantees, but it's 100% possible as I hear that Bezos himself is a fan. He could fund the last 3 seasons with relative pocket change if he wanted to. Here's to hoping! That said, the next 16 episodes are peak!

Mama Browsss

It works now. Looks like you reposted or something. Whatever you did works! Thank you!

I think something a lot of people miss is just how upset Arjun is with Avasarala the last time they speak before s4. That was during the Eros crisis. He was mad she was putting herself in harms way, again. Then right after that she tells her family to go into hiding, while she goes off and almost gets herself killed, again. We also learn Avasarala has cheated on Arjun. Shes not a very good wife. I think the way the new actor behaves makes perfect sense given that context. I wish we had a shot in 3x6 of Arjun showing sadness and anger to Avasarala in a vid message right as Holden brings Mao in to kneel. Would make the transition more understandable.

Hans Engelen

Fair is fair .. I didn't read the books (not for lack of trying though) but I fear it won't sway me in this case. I do appreciate your opinion though and will just have to disagree.

Cthulhudeath

I've had that happen in the past. My workaround was opening the link on mobile using data instead of wifi, then going in my youtube history from desktop and opening it again from there.

N7Phoenix115

I laughed so hard when he said that followed directly by Chrisjen saying the opposite!! 😂

David Seeholzer

+1 on this note. The 6 X-ray shorts are amazing in my opinion. They allowed for 6 side short stories to be told, each one giving us a delicious extra glimpse into that world and those amazing characters. Although none of them contain spoilers, I recommend watching all 6 after finishing the series finale. And S&P, once you have finished the finale please, please do reactions to those 6 shorts.

Tony Camas

One question - you say we learned that Avasarala has cheated on Arjun. I don't remember this. Can you clarify?

Etta Eskridge

I am so glad you plan to read the books! They are just as charming and rereadable as watching the series again. Many people agree that the casting of Jasai Chase Owens as Filip is spot on as a blend of both Naomi and Marco. I would guess that Naomi was between 18 - 20 when she had him and is approximately mid 30's now. In the books when Filip first appears he is celebrating his 15th birthday. When S4 came out (after a LONG wait as the show got its rebirth in May 2018), it was dropped all at once. I still tried to watch one episode a week and then got spoiled about Ashford's death and held off watching E10 for many weeks! I still tear up at those scenes. The actor is top tier and we were so lucky to get David Strathairn for two seasons!! A true pirate.

PNWKyle

So so enjoyable to revisit this great series through your eyes. It's a constant reminder that sci-fi TV can be great, and original, unlike the efforts to produce Variation #80 of Trek or Star Wars. Give us real, flawed, complex heroes. Take chances.

Beat Conductor

That dinner she had with Itrby in s2.

Tony Camas

Oh, interesting. For whatever it's worth, I didn't read it that way. I always thought they were speaking of a time prior to her marriage that they might have dated a few times. I just dismissed it as Iturbi thinking of himself as a bit of a Lothario; I wasn't even convinced he actually was anything more than talk in that regard. I wonder if the writing staff has ever commented on what that all was meant to convey.
