The Gov doesn't want the responsibility of the crown, but as soon as Martinez showed he was an unreliable leader he had to go. Then when Pete showed he didn't have the intestinal fortitude to be a no holds barred leader he had to get rid of Pete and do it himself once more. And Pete in the lake is his new version of the heads in the fish tanks.

After all this nonsense about you guys “starting to like the Governor,” I honestly can’t wait to see your reaction to the next episode. 😭😭😭😭 And please, someone explain why you’re even talking about Shane in season 4? Someone tell me what he supposedly did that makes you love him so much. What did he even do in season 2?? The only thing he did was fight with everyone, stay angry all the time, and just be a general problem. He did NOTHING for the group he was just pissed off and wished he were Rick. It’s the same thing with this guy. Never grateful and only sees the negative in everyone paranoid and insanely insecure ugh.

Tim

The uncut episode is still locked

He's a villain for sure but the actor is outstanding and he imbued that character with so much personality and drama that he's unforgettable. I actually missed both the actor and intensity once he was gone too.

Ludus Aurea

That one dude also was in Agent Carter and Agents of Shield as Agent Souza I think.

The way I interpreted it, Governor killing Martinez is a mix of everything you said. There's the control issues - he feels threatened that another man is in power. But he justifies that by convincing himself that Martinez is not strong enough to keep his family safe. There's also the fact that Martinez knows and is a link to his past, which he tries so hard to bury. I think the combination of all these made the decision easy for him

The brothers (Pete and Mitch) are also definitely a parallel to Rick and Shane in the early seasons. I imagine the way the Governor "handled" Mitch is how he would have dealt with and manipulated someone like Shane to his side. While Pete and Rick reminds him too much of his own heroic brother that he hated.

cheekyramen

Why wouldn't they talk about him? He's the show's "antagonist" during the early seasons. In this episode particularly they are comparing him to the Governor, the antagonist/villain of the the current arc. A lot of the times they mention him it's also prompted by the show itself by making other characters reference and talk about him. There's many connections and parallels that you can make about the different narratives and characters in the world, that's what's so great about TWD's writing imo and why it's fun seeing other people's interpretation/analysis of it.

Colton

Plus at this point I think they mostly mention him to troll people complaining about their love for Shane lmao

Bartleby

Michone had nothing to do with the bodies they found with the signs around them. Absolutely nothing at all. Nothing in the show, episode, or story suggested it was Michone or that she had anything to do with it. They were just random freak events that are being hinted at.

The Governor is in a way fighting the same battle that Rick is fighting of "Coming Back." His way of coming back is through this new family that he's found but in order for them to stay alive, he has to do things that require him to delve back into his old, violent self. There are many signs to reflect this struggle with his old self, such as the walker heads in the cabin or keeping Pete as a walker in the water, referencing the walker heads that he used to stare at in Woodberry. Rick was enjoying life and trying to give Carl an actual childhood at the beginning of this season, yet he couldn't tell Hershel or the woman in the woods that "coming back" was possible. The woman in the woods even said, "you don't get to come back." This struggle that both the Governor and Rick go through this and last season creates a very interesting parallel between the two characters.

Luke Smith

The actor from Band Of Brothers also plays an amazing role in Fringe. You guys would love the show.

Mitchell Wright

The Governor didn’t have the manpower, but he has a tank

Bartleby

Thing about The Walking Dead is, it’s a big scary world out there. One that keeps breathing and living all on its own. Whether our main characters know about it or not. Just because you see a bizarre notable thing on the show, doesn’t mean it automatically ties back to characters we already know or that have already been introduced to. Sometimes it’s just random weird shit that we only see the aftermath of that our characters may stumble across. That’s what we saw in this episode with those decapitated bodies with the signs around their necks. And no, the Governor did not go back and kill a whole camp full of people while out scouting with his new group. You think The Governor is the only human threat in this world? You’re dead wrong.

Jonas Doksaeter

The first season is great, then it kinda unravels.

Demented Avenger

They mention him in nearly every episode. It's hilarious.

hypocritex

*Negan whistle* Lol right.. She was so sure of herself.. And was so far off the mark.

joeyyy

The governor is a superb character just not a good person. He's easily one of the best characters in the show so it's no wonder they're enjoying him even if its just for his temporary 'redemption arc'
