If I was in this world I would almost certainly be one of the people who trusted the Governor before he ruthlessly shoots me in the head at the end of season 3 lol. There's something about him where you're routing for him to reform, David Morrissey is just so good and charismatic in the role man. Takes a special actor to make a character like this work as well as he does.

I love how at the end of the video y'all criticized Martinez for trusting the Governor, but at the beginning you were almost ready to like the Governor. Y'all would have been like Martinez lowkey—stabbed in the back for trusting a manipulative mass murderer whose tricks you fell for. I get it though. It's easy for me to say that in hindsight.

The governor went back to his old ways the moment Martinez said he couldn’t keep the camp safe and it made him snap back to his former self. We also learn that the Governor had an extremely abusive childhood this episode just like Daryl but we obviously know that Daryl became a great guy but some people can’t overcome stuff that way which is just great writing in itself. I will say he tried to be a better person last episode but couldn’t see it through unlike someone like Daryl who had an equally bad childhood yet could overcome it.

Yeah the Gov had to kill Martinez for many reasons. 1 being that Martinez saw him at his absolute worst and he had a fake new life to live that Martinez was a threat to. 2nd reason being that Martinez wasn’t a fit leader in his eyes and 3- I don’t think his ego could stand to share any authority with someone he used to rule over.

The Gov’s sadistic ways seem to be a direct reaction to his fear. Fight or flight tells him to kill any threat to his leadership. He enjoys people with weak minds and strong physical abilities. He does not enjoy strong minds with also strong physical abilities as that is a threat to him.

Martinez also kept bringing up the past. There were a couple times the governor had to jump in to stop Martinez from revealing stuff. I don't think the governor trusted him to keep his mouth shut long term. Martinez could have ruined everything for him so I was expecting the governor to take him out at some point

The lesson Martinez learned.. never have your back turned against a man who's capable of gunning down half his crew without second thought. Guard was down from drinking, I get it but still. I reckon he was hinting too much of the governors past in front of the new crew and the governor felt threatened by it. Governor's very territorial imo so I reckon Martinez's "sharing the crown" mention on top of everything else he said was the last straw that made him snap.

The Governor IS Shane in my eyes. They are both willing to lose their humanity, do bad things and hurt others (even if innocent) in order to protect their loved ones. You like Shane more, because the show showed you his good side, his past from before the outbreak, how close he was with Rick, how good of a person he was. And the actor is fucking great. You connected with the character and built sympathy. With The Governor you were mostly shown the ugly and bad. He is a bit more loony with how he treats the walkers, keeping them and staring at them. But he also lost his wife and daughter and been in this world longer, who knows what Shane would become if he lost Carl ad Lori and lived longer in the world that wants you to be bad. We dont know who The Governor was. We only know who he is now. The way i see it, he is Shane if Rick never showed up and Lori with Carl died. And it is something that can happen to anyone in this world over time, as you mentioned, even Carol is also becoming something else. It does not mean being this way is right, but often looking at cold facts, it is the way to be alive. Shane was just our first look at what you can expect people to evolve into over time in this harsh world.

I believe that Philip was trying to leave that night because a part of him didn't want to do exactly what he ended up doing. When he saw the walkers blocking his path, he saw it as a sign and that is when he fully returned to being The Governor And it makes him all the more frustrating and tragic because we see with people like Daryl and Carol that you can become a survivor and still a decent person but he can never quite get there He let his fear win (which is what Carol did with Karen and David) and it sucks because we see that he does have a caring side and is very, very capable

Fun Fact- The Govs real name is Brian and his Brothers was Phillip. In the Novel he took his brothers name after his death escaping ATL. Another fun fact- in season 1 when glen is helping rick through the roof tops, glen said who ever set up the walk ways to go from roof top to roof top was smart- that was Gov and his brother who did that. The novels were great for the Govs back story.
