David

Is it wrong that I’ve been waiting for this episode? Hahaha I was crushed the first time I saw it

Sko0lboy G

lol, it’s definitely a heavy one.

Storm

How did I not realize this episode was up next? 😮‍💨

Pushindazeez

I ugly cry every single time I see this episode. There was nothing else they could do for Lizzie, there's no professional help for her. It was a beautiful but devastating episode. And on a lighter note, I can't help but laugh over Spartan's "the man, the myth, the legend, king of kings". 😂 Honestly, I find you guys' loyalty to Shane after all this time endearing. I sincerely hope you watch The Punisher one day.

PIG

That's still my favorite Walking Dead cold opening. Eerie.

Storm

I think Tyreese would’ve had a very hard time doing what Carol had to do in this episode, and I love how that gives him clarity on the Karen/David situation. Ugh such an amazing episode for these characters. I love episodes that really focus on one small group, similar to the Daryl and Beth episode.

Ludus Aurea

Oh sh it’s time to look at the flowers. This storyline was arguably better in the book but that goes without saying. It was also completely unrelated to Carol so they actually did a really good job adapting it to the show without any of the related characters being in the show. Don’t forget this episode because this, Karen and David, and Sophia will shape Carol in the future. For now it’s obviously not a spoiler to say this emotionally destroys Carol, just absolutely.

Brady Renfro

No, this is one of my favorite episodes in the series. Really puts into perspective about how do you deal with mental health conditions in an apocalypse setting.

DominaZeta

This episode was emotionally brutal for sure. Still is, even though I knew what was coming. I don't think that Lizzie was just a normal kid traumatized by the world, though. It was heavily implied that she already had some mental illness before all this (probably schizophrenia) and was having a worsening psychotic break. Her delusions about the walkers still being 'alive but just different', calling them 'friends', killing small animals to feed them, and when she said she could 'hear' them talking to her (likely voices in her mind)... all examples of her psychosis getting worse. There is no fixing that, especially not in the zombie apocalypse. She would have been a danger to herself and everyone around her forever.

Ludus Aurea

That’s why season 4.5 through 5 are the best run of episodes imo. Obviously there are standouts to come like in season 6 and 8 and 7 too etc. and you know who in season 10.

Dana N

The fire burning in the distance was from Daryl and Beth, when they set that shack on fire

Kai

Just a beautiful and devastating episode. I’m a mental health professional and it’s pretty clear that Lizzie is mentally ill and would have behaved this way even if there was no apocalypse. In that case it might have been caught sooner so she could be treated/hospitalized (and she might not have ended up actually killing people), but in this world there is no treatment for her and those behaviors would be encouraged by what became necessary to survive in that world. And if Carol had left her on her own (if Lizzie survived) she very likely would have killed more people. It’s so tragic and nuanced a situation, no matter what it’s heartbreaking.

survivor fan

You guys have the weirdest assumptions sometimes lol. “The assumption is that someone burned them?”, walkers can be burned after they’ve turned into walkers lol, like say walkers walking into a burning house that we saw two episodes ago

survivor fan

“Is that what made them sick at the prison? The mice?” Guys what lol

tatufmetuf

"Look at the flowers"

Alex Thrailkill

One of the best episodes of the show imo

Alex Thrailkill

To be fair, the show never focused on the sick pigs. There’s a lot going on while that plays out in the background.

James Hamm

The smoke they see in this episode is from the fire that Daryl and Beth started.

The_Paige_Master

One of the best episodes this season and series 🌸🌷🌺

CoffeeNBleach

This episode. . . this episode. I think about it a lot and I watched it when it first aired—what I would do in the situation, what could've been done differently or if it would've just been the same. It's gut wrenching the decision Carol had to make and unfortunately Lizzie was mentally ill and with the right treatment, she could've lived a functioning life. Then the apocalypse happened.

Legitimately think this is my favorite episode of the entire series. There are certainly more "classic" episodes, but everything about this episode is flawless imo - emotional, deep, great cinematography. Also works fine as a bottle episode for those who haven't seen the rest of the series. 10/10
