“You’re gonna miss me so much when I’m gone Daryl Dixon” -Beth Greene

Lyn Hurst

I hate this. I knew it was coming because I hit a spoiler somewhere, didn't know how. I thought those scissors Beth had in her hands were pretty wimpy. Dawn definitely shot her reflexively. I saw the gun right there pointing toward Beth right before she stabbed her. I don't like how they built Beth up. I always liked her, and she did take care of Judith for a while. Maggie seemed to have thought she was dead based on her reaction when she found out she was alive. She and Daryl killed me with their reaction. I hate we just got to know Beth and then the way she was killed was so stupid. Why go up to Dawn? She could have just left. I think it is bad writing.

Nathan Jasper

it's not bad writing. It's a person who already has mental issues reaching a breaking point and that anger bubbled up and she was defending her friend with what she had on her. She wasn't trying to kill Dawn, she was trying to buy Noah time to leave. In that moment, she only cared about saving her friends. She's never cared about herself, that was established in season 2. The only thing keeping her going was everyone around her and she snapped finally seeing the truth. "I get it now" You have to be willing to do what it takes even if that means dying for your cause. Dawn's cause was keeping the status quo even if that meant compromising values. Beth's cause was protect who protected her.

ShanB

I hate that this was spoiled for you. I'd really stop digging around on TWD if I were you. There's too many seasons/history you'll run into many spoilers without trying too hard. With that, I don't think this was bad writing although I get why it could seem like that. Watching more than once you can see how this fits her characters behavior which is still a bit impulsive. She didn't like that Dawn was trying to keep Noah and she may have thought that was her shot to do something about it before they left with the least amount of deaths and no bullets flying. On first watch though I could barely even tell what happened so I was let down and thought it was silly.

Makeeba

Maggie screaming broke me. 😭 For me i didnt really like the hospital arc much. Too many unreadable characters with alterior motives - specifically Dawn. I agree with Spartan that they should have given us more context with at least 1 scene out of the 3/4 episodes watched so far on how Maggie was feeling with Beths absence. The reveal that she was still out there and the reaction from Maggie seemed a little rushed near the end there..

ShanB

dude you are fighting ghosts I'm cracking up

Kay Renee’

“Dawns starting to grow on me. ” Girl…

ShanB

One of the many episodes that broke my heart and had me ugly crying. Jeez Maggie's actress kills.

ShanB

"Sasha - pretty Naive" .. also you guys: "Oh The Gov seems like he really changed" "I like this random shady guy in the bar talking to Rick, Glenn and Hershel" 🤪 You guys would be right there with her 😆

Makeeba

Beths death cuts. She wasnt in my top 3 but she has been with us since the farm and there has been good character development from being "the baby" in the greene family, so meek and quiet with a few lines here and there to becoming more diserning and brave in situations. I feel like Dawn saying "i knew youd come back" was very manipulative and done out of spite and beth saw that more clearly in that moment. Not 100% sure thats factual, just an opinion. Reality is, as sad as this was, Beth still made a poor choice there, as Noah could make his own decision, and he decided to go back instead of retaliating , probably biding time until his next escape.. wasnt really her call to play hero in that moment but i respect and understand why, being around Dawn for that long lol.

Golladan

I'll request again please not to skip credit when there is a post credit scene. So we don't have to re-sync.

James Waters

I think this whole arc is the low point up to this point. It's very flimsy, one of those situations where there are a thousand better things you could do with Beth. But the Maggie thing really baffles me, it's indefensible. There's no clear reason why Maggie should never mention Beth, and we can't say it's because she thinks she's dead because while that could be the case, if the writers intended that, there would have been a scene or a conversation where someone brings Beth up and at the very least Maggie says, "I think she's dead, I don't need the hope", which in itself is a strange thing for Maggie to think considering she never stopped looking for Glenn in season 4 and she chose to marry the most humane and hopeful man in the show. The fact that Glenn never mentions her at all despite many ample opportunities for him and her to have that conversation tell me that it is a writing issue, and that the whole Beth arc was done out of necessity to write her out the show and fill a 16 episode season, rather than some creative vision. I like this episode because of the emotional equity the show built up, but I view it as a good end to a bad story overall.

Kay Renee’

When it’s someone Darryl’s close to it always hurts because that man makes you break. 😢 and Maggie’s scream (even though she lowkey acted like Beth never existed lol)

Golladan

@James Waters or it's in character for Maggie to not think about those she has lost. How many times has Maggie mentioned Hershel since his death? How many times has she mentioned her family at the farm?

ShanB

I think what Pudgey saw in Rick biting dude’s jugular was correct - that was one of a few turns Rick took toward the dark side. 1 being Shane maybe 2 being the guys at the bar 3 being the prisoners then the claimer group and definitely something snapped after almost being slaughtered by cannibals! It’s warranted that he killed some guy who snuck on Sasha and knocked her out. I think he’s adapted a better- safe-than- sorry logic after all he’s seen. He’s been played a few times by loose ends (the gov/terminus people being left alive to attack again). Nobody has time for this “good guy” who was going to run away and cause indirect harm to his people. No consideration for the dead cop at this point. Stakes were too high. He'd have just been looking for another chance to knock out or kill Rick.

spartanandpudgey

sorry Golladan, we can see how it's annoying, but watching 2-3 minutes of end credits for a 20 second post credit scene isn't very efficient for us or beneficial to the experience so we'll stick to skipping it. they are far and few between so this shouldn't be a problem too often

James Waters

They aren't the same situations. She saw her family die at the farm, she knew what happened to them and there was a big time jump between season 2 and 3, meaning it's very reasonable to assume they've mourned them and accepted what happened in those months. With Hershel, she saw him die, but in context you can argue there wasn't really much time to talk about it because the prison was being bombarded with tank shells and walkers, and in the aftermath she was focusing on trying to find her husband. In this situation she knows that Beth was alive when Daryl saw her, and there are no scenes in the show to indicate that Maggie believes otherwise, due to the lack of time jump and clarification you can assume what she thinks but that's just you writing the script yourself. I put to you that due to how vehemently she claimed Glenn was still alive after the prison with only hope and a lack of a body to go on, it is not only out of character for her to not talk about Beth, but she should be banging on about her ALL THE TIME.

DRIP DROP

Do you know realize how many people were telling them not to do or even finish TWD.... guess not

Lyn Hurst

Just my opinion. I thought the way she was taken out was flimsy. Those scissors barely hurt Dawn. But, when did we see Beth had mental issues beyond what has already been her normal reactions given the situation. Just because she was angry doesn't mean she has mental issues. She has been pretty clear headed the whole tune she has been at tye hospital.

Lyn Hurst

I actually waa reading up on another show on Reddit, and clicked on a post about this episode which was in my feed on Reddit. Need to unjoin TWD on Reddit.

TokyoLopez

I don’t agree with Rick killing Bob Lamson, sure he tried to escape, but out of fear of his life. Noah even said he was a good guy, Lamson could’ve killed Sasha but chose to escape instead. Rick had him out in the open, unarmed, still handcuffed, he really killed him for no reason. I think it came back to haunt them in the end. With someone else perishing for no reason.

Bri Gioia

To me… Beth’s death seamed pretty realistic. People act on impulse sometimes and that’s exactly what we saw. We also have to remember Beth is still pretty much a kid… she has had very little human encounters since leaving the farm besides the main group. She doesn’t know how people fully act in this world but she was learning. She made a stupid mistake on impulse and it unfortunately had major consequences.

DRIP DROP

Rick aint taking no chances after terminus bruh bruh

TokyoLopez

If you’ve ever seen the show then you know that’s not true, and if Rick keeps Lamson alive, you have another person to trade for Noah. It absolutely came back to haunt him bruh bruh

Korivex

Love the authentic reaction... it is still the same for me even though I've seen it a hundred times. This show continues with the awesome writing and amazing acting right until the very last episode.

Victoria E (vickster5001)

I hate that we lost Beth here. I was so angry the first time I watched as it felt so pointless, but I suppose it does show how things can change in an instant in this world. I get why Rick in his current headspace killed the guy, but it's tragic that had they had 3 to trade as planned, then likely Beth would still be alive.

Mark Laniel

Dawn slaps Beth...Spartan is super pissed with her about it...cant be redeemed lol...and I get it, I didnt like Beth getting smacked either....but he loves Shane who tried to rape Lori. What's worse?

Mark Laniel

now you see the consequences of acting in a way like shane,,,always leads to bad things. Dawn knew they killed her man. she didnt believe the lie. Thus she decided to twist the deal and keep Noah.

Mark Laniel

"cant go back, Bob"...Rick repeated the same line Gareth the cannibal said to their Bob.

Dae

“They burned themselves?🤯”

Dae

I think she said “I get it now” for a joke Dawn said earlier that day that Beth didn’t originally understand

Jacob Sparks

I think Beth meant like if she don’t kill dawn this cycle will just continue and there will be more wards brought in being taken advantage of but idk

Shawneeboy

He knocked out Sasha. Doing bad things just because of fear doesn’t make it good.

TokyoLopez

So that makes Rick’s action even worse. Rick killed Lamson out of fear just as much as Lamson knocked out Sasha out of fear. I can go all day and night with this. “Doing bad things” aka breaking someone’s back by running them down with a car and putting a bullet in the head vs knocking someone unconscious and running away. Hmmmmm I wonder which one is worse.

Samanda

I feel so sad for Maggie. She suddenly realized she had a sister, and then lost her again, all in one episode 😭

Josh M

Rick killing Lamson like that. Man, what a moment. I'm not gonna say he was evil for doing that necessarily but it's so brutal. It sucks to see Rick in a state where he feels like that's the choice he has to make. In regards to Beth's death and the hospital arc as a whole, it's not well loved by most. I've come to really appreciate it. As much as it sucks for her to die after finally getting several episodes of deep focus, it's yet another tragic step in the group's journey. I don't know if we've ever seen them this down on their luck.

Bill B.

Pudgey’s reaction broke me on this one. I cry at this episode but tonight it was like the first time watching it. 😰😰

Jill

No one is safe, guys

Josh M

When Beth said "I get it now," I think she meant that she knows that Dawn is irredeemable and will always find a way to justify her shitty treatment of her group (Noah), in this case because she didn't want to look weak in front of her cops. In a way, I think Beth was kind of knowingly sacrificing herself for Noah. Bad choice, maybe, but definitely bold of her. "You're gonna miss me so bad when I'm gone Daryl Dixon." Haunting line.

JonSnow21

I agree with Spartan about what Beth did was so stupid, doesn’t make it any less sad tho , Daryl crying always breaks me and even Rick was almost crying , it really is one of the saddest episodes in this show . Honestly I don’t care about Lamson , he was an idiot for running, fear isn’t an excuse for knocking out Sasha , Rick would’ve brought him back but he insisted to try and escape and thought he could outrun a car, it was brutal , I won’t lie but Rick couldn’t let him go without causing trouble for the group. I disagree that Shane was where Rick is back in s2 , maybe on the outside it looks that way but Shane literally went insane over Lori . Rick is just really brutal at this point bc all that’s happened to him, he isn’t crazy in any aspect, just savage and does what needs to be done without being sorry. However I agree without Lori being a factor, they would’ve been an unstoppable duo.

ShanB

😂😂 so noble of them to drag themselves outside bleeding and set themselves on fire. A great sacrifice for the group

ShanB

I mean sure I don’t doubt you .. they’re just not in these comments is what I mean. The time will come

DRIP DROP

Savage would be if he let him get eaten by walkers. It was a mercy kill and he could have stopped running but didnt. You thought you ate but it's an apocalypse lol.. And bro was going back anyway in a trade that's his fault for thinking he can beat Rick Grimes post terminus

Gravy

They were mid season finales cause they’d take a lil break before the second half of the season

Paul Rendon

Disagree with Spartan. Beth went out like a G.

Tyler Janes

If Pudgey CRIES, I CRYYYY ! 🥺😢😭 But also you make me laugh, Spartan: trying to make it happy and be uplifting Pudgey: “I don’t want us to be happy”

Ghu6nn

Hit the nail on the head. Beth, in that moment, saw who she always knew Dawn truly was--a power-hungry manipulator. She didn't care about Noah the human. She only cared about Noah the pawn and how it would make her look strong getting him back and "winning" the hostage exchange.

Ghu6nn

As Rick later iterates, he doesn't take chances anymore. I don't necessarily agree with him either, but you've gotta admit, killing Lamson does make sense for his character at this point in the story. And in the end, Dawn barely batted an eye. That's not what muffed the plan.

Duder03

This is just one man's opinion, but it really feels like they (the writers) wanted to kill Beth, just to kill Beth. I mean she might've just as well slipped on a banana peel and fell down the elevator shaft. It would've made just as much sense to me. I just don't understand why Beth would stab Dawn. Especially where she stabbed her, like if she wanted to kill her, why stab in the shoulder and not the head or neck? I don't know. It just doesn't make any sense. Maybe I'm nitpicking.

Stefaan De Wasch

Emily Kinney appeared on the after show of this episode and the poor thing broke down in tears. Really broke my heart seeing how much she loved working on the show and the her fellow actors on it. I'm glad they didn't turn her in to a walker. Alas my crush is gone from the show :'(

Dane Haller

i luv the walking dead so muchhhh

TokyoLopez

Why is it “since terminus”, If Rick doesn’t take “chances” then he would’ve killed Father Gabriel immediately, he would’ve killed Abraham and his crew immediately, killed everyone else he came across. His first “not take any chance” would’ve been at the Governor’s battle at the prison. “doesn’t take chance” then why is Tara still there? You people are ridiculous in your claims when the show itself contradicts your very statements.

TokyoLopez

And Rick could’ve given up the prison and left with his people and Hershel would be alive. You thought you ate lil bro lmao. “It’s an apocalypse” Blanket statement that doesn’t apply. “post terminus” If he’s not taking any chances he would’ve killed Gabriel and Abraham’s group immediately. You really thought you did something. The show itself contradicts your statements. “not taking any chances” and lets the cop group go. You clearly haven’t seen the show and are in denial just because they are the main character as if the show doesn’t clearly display its own main characters in controversial situations. Try again and come up with something more coherent than “it’s the apocalypse”

TokyoLopez

“It’s an apocalypse” blanket statement, then that means everyone is justified in doing the things they did including the people at terminus, since “it’s the apocalypse” do you even listen to your own words? Or are you just trying to troll lmao you really thought you did something lil bro, “thinking he can beat rick grimes post terminus” I’d love to break the news to you lil bud. But I’ll let you keep watching and figure it out for yourself.

TokyoLopez

Beth stabbed Dawn. Dawn didn’t bat an eye in shooting her because Beth stabbed her with those scissors. That’s what muffed the plan. Well actually, Rick killing Lamson muffed the plan. One more person to trade. The original plan to trade the three of them would’ve worked. As we can see at the end of the episode Dawn was fully cooperative in trading. Just not Noah, you bring Lamson, you have another person to trade. But instead what happens? Beth stabs Dawn and Dawn responded. You think Rick would not shoot someone who stabbed them either? “makes sense for his character at this point” by your own words he absolutely would. If someone running away unarmed, handcuffed, and on foot while Rick has a car with gas and chooses to run him down and break his back. Then he absolutely would shoot someone who had stabbed him.

🕊️xXZephyrus2002Xx🕊️

Mag lost her old man… and then 10 days later not even 2 weeks she loses Beth, home girl is going through it bruh 😔

Bill B.

This makes so much sense. I’ve watched this series over and over and never quite gotten that line, but yeah I think you are spot on!

Bill B.

Yeah it’s absolutely crazy, aside from the big time skip between the fall of the farm and the discovery of the prison… I think since the start of season 4 it’s been like a month? Maybe 2 months? Something wild. I haven’t seen it in a while but someone used to post an updated timeline after each major event.

Jonathan

I don't think it's fair to say that it was a poor choice, because it wasn't a rational choice. It was an emotional choice, an idealistic choice. Perhaps a moral choice. Beth was saying, "You don't get to control me. You don't get to control Noah. You don't get to win." And I think she was willing to give up her life to make that statement.

Jonathan

Regarding why Dawn tried to take back Noah: she was afraid of appearing weak. Immediately before they demanded that he be returned, she looked back slightly, and the camera focused on the cops behind her. I think she was feeling like the didn't get the upper hand in the deal, or at least, that's how it was being perceived, and that it could cause even more cracks to form in her management. So she needed to make some show of superiority.

layyfee.r

This episode is just a friendly reminder that NO ONE is safe in this show

Elora D. Dragneel

This episode destroys me every time. :( Great reaction as always.

the continent

we had to wait from November til February after the midseason finales. With this one, obviously the loss of Beth hit hard, but it was like...now what are they going to do and where are they going? They don't have the church and Eugene lied about DC.

David

This!! And Beth finally understood she is full of shit, all that talk of greater good and all was just an excuse, all she ever did was to maintain control

Gypsysoul

I usually do on every reaction channel I personally watch but I feel bad overdoing it sometimes. Probably a good time to leave one tho. Cheers ☕

Samanda

Watching a TV show is more fun when you just take the story as it comes, instead of constantly thinking about the thought process of the writers in the writing room. Then it's no longer a "oh why did they write that", but just a "oh, life happens, poor Beth" I really recommend that mindshift to get more joy from any series.

Tyler Janes

I believe her interpretation of “I get it now” was that she understands how dawn operates and that all the wards were held under dawns rule. After her attempted suicide her motive for survival was that “We all have a job to do” I think that she knew in that moment risking her life as long as she stopped Dawn was worth it. She was the only one there, and she had one job to stop Dawn and get Carol, Noah , and everyone else out and hopefully herself. ❤️

MrMoleHole

But things not making sense breaks immersion, that is why it pisses people off.

Duder03

I guess my point is, it feels more like a soap opera than a post apocalyptic drama. But again, just my opinion.

spartanandpudgey

thank you!! holy shit when you look at it by days instead of episodes it all happends so quickly. looking at S4 and 5 especially

Alissa

Seeing how hurt everyone was by her death hit even harder. I think people forget how much she meant to Rick too, she took care of Judith so much she was almost a second mother. She was the light of the group, always singing and being there for people. Her death was one of the ones that bothered me the most. Even seasons after this I still thought “I wish Beth was there with them”. This was so heartbreaking.

Ryan

Okay I gotta say, people loved to hate on Shane and say he was a horrible person and left Otis to die (so he could save his own life) and how Rick is just such a better person yada yada. but in the intro of this episode, Rick gets into a car and runs down an unarmed man who is ziptied, breaks his back with the car, refuses to take him back to the hospital, then shoots him in the head. What a damn amazing dude. Anyway, why did Shane have to die again? Oh yeah, because Rick killed him...

Guilherme G.

Only 10 days passing between Hershel's and Beth's death is insane to think about!!

Gypsysoul

Progression matters unfortunately, and you are welcome to have your own opinion but being too ruthless too fast or too slow is bad strategy (intended or not). Ricks journey is a flow state that is more or less appropriate for each arc. Again agree to disagree lol but yeah. Cheers my dude ☕

Anaya Imari

Exactly!! It truly does break immersion. Calling out bad writing or confusing writing isn’t a crime.

Anaya Imari

Loved the way you ended that! I’ll still never be a fan of the way they did her. But you put it in a great way! The group truly was down on their luck after losing her. Now THAT is good writing! Always letting the characters be reminded of who they lost. Because this effected everyone!

Paul

Because he ran away when he told him not to. To stop. because he'd go warn the enemy faction that kidnapped their friend. Entirely different context than Shane who, sadistically, shot Otis so he'd be zombie bait, at least in part to save his own life.

Ryan

Defending Rick on that is wild lol. He didn’t have to kill that man…especially after he broke his back with the car. Also if both Shane and Otis died…then so did Carl because they had the meds.

Paul

He told him to stop running. He wouldn't have killed him if he complied. He then ran him over to force him to stop, breaking his back and legs. He'd either take him back to base and trade him, where Dawn would likely torture him, or leave him there to be brutally consumed by the walkers. Killing him at that point was an act of unavoidable mercy.

JohnnyUtah

This episode is the saddest for me, more than the Grove. Just to be so close to out Beth wanted to make sure nobody else was treated the way Dawn was treating them.

Lumen

I know. It's ridiculous, really.
