This episode is one of the crown jewels of TWD as a whole. This episode can only exist if the audience cares about EVERY character, and over four and a half seasons they really earned something this stripped down and character driven.

Yoav Cohen

"We are the walking dead" iconic line by Rick.

Ludus Aurea

Someone beat me to it but this episode has Ricks iconic direct speech to the reader from the prison arc of the books: “we tell ourselves that WE are the walking dead.” A lot of people think this is a zombie show and I see them on social media, or I did when the show was still live, going "BORIIIING GET TO THE ZOMBIE ACTION" but that monologue should set them straight about why the show is called The Walking Dead. I think that monologue was actually better placed in the show after 18 episodes of them going through it on the road, than it was in the comics. Idk if you have them in Australia but the storm was a tornado (it just didn’t show the outside during the storm)they’re very unpredictable funnel storms that devastate anything in their path but also they may just skip you. So it’s basically a miracle that the storm ripped through and killed the walkers but left the barn intact. They don’t really happen in Virginia but it’s not that far fetched. You could interpret it as a sign from god that after Gabriel took off his collar (whatever the white thing is called) and tossed it in the fire, like he lost faith, that God sent the storm to test them and after they survived, perhaps he sent Aaron - a name which means enlightened among other things in Hebrew - to them. It's a bit more on the nose if you read the comic books because one of the compendium titles after Aaron is introduced but they kept it a decent mystery in the show. Unfortunately I can't say more without spoilers even though I'm sure you're a couple episodes past this one. I think they didn't make the cut but there were shots of the entire group from further down the road where you see their heads slowly peak over a ridge and you can see just how hard they're clinging to anything they can. Like others have said, this is genuinely one of the crown jewel episodes of the show. Another peak episode from season 4 through 6. Can’t wait to see the reactions to the rest of this season.

You’re entering one of my favorite eras of TWD. So excited to see how you process the expansion of the world and characters.

Dustin Mikkelsen

This is my favorite episode of the show, I love how down our survivors are, like nomads. And then we get introduced to Aaron, nothing crazy happens, a mostly dialogue episode and I love it.

Ryan Cook

Wow they are confused and dont get the meaning of the episode. Im so shocked.

Fate Fate Ofc

One of the best episodes of the show.

StoneyBowlz

Best episode of the whole show

Liam_Mac06

Who is this shane person? are they sure he is from this show?

Traven Sweetsir

When this episode came out a lot of people called it slow but it has always been one of my favorites and has aged extremely well. When Maggie locked the walker back in the trunk it was a metaphor for her bottled up grief, it’s really nice that Glenn was able to help her.

Justin Taylor

Australia does get tornadoes, but they are far more rare than in the states and end way more quickly than the monster ones that frequently happen here, usually they dont get reported main stream because they happen in the middle of nowhere so its understandable that it didn't immediately click for them what kind of storm could do damage like that while leaving the barn untouched.

Ludus Aurea

Right, exactly what I was trying to say - I didn't think they didn't know what a tornado was necessarily but was elaborating just because when they finally show the outside you see the barn is perfectly intact but all the trees for like 80 feet around it were ripped apart and impaled through the walkers and stuff.

Ludus Aurea

lol it never stops being funny. He's far more relevant in the show than he was in the books but even then, Shane is such a small part of the story.

Denisa Bémová

Lowkey still waiting for them to watch Punisher, the way they love shane they’re gonna eat it up with Frank

Justin Taylor

Good to see someone else with a teaspoon of the "storm tism", see weather destruction in show* Analyze destruction and realism* Identify culprit* Notice viewers didn't mention culprit* Explain who, what, why, how culprit caused the damage for the good of the realm*

Ludus Aurea

I've seen the show probably a googol times but either I forgot or didn't care about the symbolism, but, I was paying attention to the smaller things that happen for once. I haven't gotten this far in the comic or at least I don't own anything past Vol. 12 and I think I only ever read up to like, All Out War one time, so IDK if I should have noticed the storm themes more easily.

Kai

This is one of my fav episodes of the whole season and kind of one of my top fav of the whole show. I LOVE character/relationship heavy episodes where you get all the human behavioral nuance to better connect with and understand these characters. It makes all the bigger moments in the show so much more powerful.

Kai

I also want to say (being a therapist myself) Maggie’s response to Beth is actually more realistic and accurate than most might think. Everyone grieves and deals with loss differently, u may be smiling at times or not talking about it but that doesn’t mean u r not grieving (u can see it come out in other ways). Also if the only way she could cope was to tell herself Beth was gone and focus totally on Glenn that again is a valid response to this kind of grief & trauma. Whether u agree w/ how the show told the story is one thing but from a character/mental health standpoint it makes sense.

Rockstar

I really hope you’re not a therapist. I know it’s a purely beneficial position in the us… but if you truly are… why are you on a patron trying to use your education to do this? It’s seems like narcissism. Trying to make a point using your profession like this is borderline madness. Prove you’re a therapist or be branded a liar.

Storm

It’s fine to have skepticism about what you see online, but this is such a strange comment? People with many different jobs can subscribe to Patreon, watch these videos, and have thoughts. If their profession may add to their perspective in some way, why not share that? You wanna see some ID or what? 💀

beth

Rockstar: Your comment is a bit unhinged. Not sure if Kai does phone appointments, but it might not be a bad idea for you to reach out to someone. It's interesting to get the perspective of someone in the field being portrayed. It's like watching a reaction to The Pitt and having an ER doctor weighing in. TWD may be about zombies but the relationships and approach to survival of each character are what make people want to watch. The past few episodes have leaned heavily into grief on top of trauma. The setting of the show is fantastical, but grief is not. Did you ever watch Talking Dead when it aired? It came on after TWD and it was a way to delve deeper into/process the show.

I haven't seen Punisher yet so that would be fun to see Shane... I mean, Frank... LOL

Pushindazeez

Much more than just a bit unhinged. Sounds more like a drunk or methed up post!

Pushindazeez

It occurred to me that being in Australia you may not have recognized that it was not just huge thunderstorms, but was actually a tornado, which are known for skipping around causing massive damage all around but leaving a house or church or other structure right in the middle miraculously untouched.

TwoTon3

You mentioned Shane again! This is your daily reminder to check out the movie Fury! ❤️ Loving your reactions btw!

CoffeeNBleach

I just wanted to add onto the conversation of Maggie: It was maybe, maybe, a month in between her losing her Father brutally to losing her sister. Just when she allowed herself to have hope that Beth was actually alive after blocking out that she was the last remaining person in her bloodline... it was taken away.
