I know im in the minority, but i didnt like this at all. Not sure how banging your head off a wall is still funny and creative in 2026. Im shocked George R. R. would sign off on this. I literally felt like i was watching a parody of GOT right up there with Spaceballs. You can be funny within the context of a serious dark fantasy. The original proved that. This is not funny. Why are we making this tonally a Western complete with a whistling soundtrack???

Dunk & Egg has already been renewed for a season 2! They are planning at least 3 to cover the 3 released GRRM novellas.

You people will literally find anything to complain about. Did you read George’s book on this? Have you understood the comparisons to Don Quixote? This is George 100%.

“You people?” I literally never comment on anything and love GOT and HOTD. I have read both Don Quixote and all 3 D&E novellas. What does taking a shit behind a tree have to do with Don Quixote? My point is that it wasn’t funny. In the books his clumsiness was never used a direct vehicle for humor. It just how he was and it was up to you if you found it funny. They are trying to make this an actual comedy around it and it’s not funny. Maybe you are still in 7th grade though and I have “lost the plot.” You can enjoy it without being offended by “You peoples” opinion.

You wanting D&E to be serious is the most ridiculous take I’ve ever heard. Have you read the novellas?? They’re NOT a dark fantasy. Read the books then maybe you’ll understand that they 100% matched the feeling and vibe of the book in this episode. This is not meant to be anything like GoT or HoTD, it’s very much an easy going, heartwarming story with very small stakes compared to the original series.

Him bumping his head is not meant to be hilarious, they’re not trying to make you laugh until you can’t breathe, it’s not a comedy. Him bumping his head is just to show the audience how much of a dope he is, Dunk the Lunk thick as a castle wall

I read the books. instead of getting mad maybe read what i wrote first. Examples - the specific, graphic scene of Dunk defecating behind a tree in the opening moments of the TV show A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms does not appear in the books - the detailed, disgusting habit of Plummer (the Master of Games) gathering phlegm and spitting it into a cup is a character detail added for the television adaptation of A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms. - ADDDED!!! DUMB SHIT BEING ADDEDD!!! What do these two examples bring to the table? I can give you dozens of examples of things not in the book. Did you think they were amazing? Why does the soundtrack sound like its from An Idiot Abroad? Is that the tone you picked up on in the books? The real question is did you read the books??? For the record, i dont think anything should be a strict adaptation. What i am saying is this didnt work. Its not funny . . .

I’m hoping they do a 6 episode season for each of the 3 released novellas… and i bet george releases another couple novellas during this hbo run since he has (allegedly) finished the stories already. Can’t wait to find out!
