I think she expected Negan to kill her if she failed not just a random person and you're right it is selfish too put herself before others however I understand her desperation. She was either going to kill Negan or die trying. If she killed him, she wins. If she died trying, she wins. But Negan was smart enough to tell Arat to shoot somebody, and take Eugene with him, which meant Rosita lost in the only way that she possibly could.

Eugene explicitly told her that if she fails it'll be someone else who pays the price, just like Glenn. I can't sympathize with her because not only did she treat him like shit just to get her bullet but she also got him taken haha. It grinds my gears when grief turns characters into idiots in this show.

I'm not sure what to say without spoilers but it only gets better from here. IMO. Richards actor is underrated and I wish he had been in the show sooner. Also, I don't think you said anything but a lot of reactors when they first introduce Gabriel and Aaron in Season 5 are like totally closed minded. They're both great examples of characters who become mvp's if you just let the story develop. Also Negan would have murdered Shane immediately assuming Shane even lived this long. He's not the Punisher, just Shane. Frank Castle would take out the Saviors singlehandedly though for sure. Even with the lack of ammo.

I held off watching ep 7, so that I could watch 7 and 8 together and they're such a satisfying double bill! Good riddance to Spencer - a time Negan gets a cheer out of me! That end of 8 is easily one of my favourite scenes in the whole show - "We're the ones who live"; Daryl and Rick's emotional reunion; Rick getting his gun back; the music - it gets me every time.

Spartan nailed it Rick realised they can't live like this anymore. They are going to suffer no matter what. So why not risk that suffering at the chance at taking down The Saviors It also speaks to why Negan is such a mediocre leader. His method of leadership is never going to work long term and will just build more and more resentment Whether it is from his own people seeing him live like a king (men watching their wives be taken through coercion) while they have to toil for him or the communities they enslave who suffer more and more under his control It speaks to Negans immaturity and his obsessive need to feel like a big shot. He derives self worth from dominating others while Rick gets his self worth from protecting the people he loves

I think the first half of this season does a really, really good job of showing the miserable life the group has to suffer under the Saviors reign while also giving us glimmers of hope Following up the brutal first episode with The Kingdom focused one for instance was a really good call because it gives the audience a breather and a possible future ally And ending the first half with the group rallying together and deciding to fight is great

The reality with Negan is that he is basically a big kid who finally got a taste of power in life and abuses the hell out of it because he doesn't have the maturity to handle it Coercing all of those women into being his wives for instance doesn't serve any utilitarian purpose. It actually just breeds resentment amongst those women and their partners If he were less juvenile and a more intelligent guy, he could have actually made the Saviors a more appealing proposition With Eugene manufacturing bullets, the other communities all growing food and them proving a fighting force, They all could have reestablished society The issue is that Negan puts himself first and is most concerned with throwing his weight around.

This current arc that Carol is going through has been going on for a long time. It was not a sudden switch, it started in season 4. Back then she killed her first two people, Karen and David, and immediately started feeling the weight of the guilt that came with that as evidenced by a scene in which she cries after Tyresse talks to her and she pusheing over a tub of water in anger. Then after losing Micah and killing Lizzie, she decided to help Tyresse get to Terminus but she told him she was not staying. So girl was already feeling the burden and deciding to take off back then already. But then Terminus was what it was as we know and she knew she had to jump into action to save them, so she did. Then in S5 right after Terminus when everyone is gathered at the church, she goes outside and started prepping a ride to she can take off. But Daryl catches her and that black car with the white cross drives by so they follow it in hopes to rescue Beth. So after that operation fails miserably she sticks with them, they get to Alexandria and she decides she’s can be a good asset to them if she plays unnoticed housewife for a while. But that just leads to more killings (such as the wolves and some of the Saviors at the Satellite post) so after that she finally decides to leave for good. So this (her feeling the burden that comes with taking a life and wanting to leave the group) has been slowly progressing since literally season 4. It’s not a sudden switch at all.

I don't blame Rosita. Her fury is justified, though I think Gabriel did get to her and calmed her down enough where she wasn't sure if she'd go through with her plan. But then, she saw Negan butcher and gut Spencer in front of everyone, another public execution, and that pushed her over the edge (even if Spencer was a snake, he didn't deserve that). It's a clever tactic that tyrants employ though, to keep oppressed people from resisting and to police themselves. Instead of punishing those who resist, you punish other random people instead, to try and shift the blame of the wanton malice and cruelty away from the Tyrant, instead of the silly slaves trying to push back and break their chains. It's insidiously brilliant.
