LETS GOOOOOO

LETS FUCKING GO

insane how modern these films feel and its nearly 50 years old

Jay Doe

I believe chronological is best especially if you know pop culture references I hate the idea that people are like well I watched it this way you do too. Machete order is another good way to watch but chronological just feels right

Holly

Spartan, you're right that you came at the surprise of Anakin being Vader from one angle bc you already knew the "Luke, I am your father line". But for the most part, when kids are starting out and watching in release order (or certainly for those alive at the time to watch these in the cinema) there IS an equally jarring surprise about "What? Vader's his father?!" Since you knew that already you got to be delightfully surprised by the Anakin-Vader reveal. For the rest of us, we were surprised by the Vader/Luke connection. And then we got to see how it all started when the prequels came out. Different directions, both carrying good surprises that pay off.

Holly

It's funny bc each time you guys publish a reaction, you guys go over the advantage of watching in the order you did. But I don't think there's a wrong answer, tbh. Because for the ones who watched in release order (really, for those of us who are older bc for kids watching in the last 20 years, I'm not sure it matters), it was super fun to watch the prequels after having watched the OG trilogy. Seeing Yoda then, seeing a young Obi-Wan Kenobi, seeing how things came about with a bunch of Easter eggs for those of us who'd watched the OG trilogy... I think it's just the way you're doing it and you're having fun this way!

Invisigoth99

This will be a day long remembered

Average Spartan/Pudgey conversation: P: Its interesting because... S: I find it interesting that.... P:You know what's interesting?.... S: That part was so interesting! P: Interesting... 🤣

Holly

Yoda's wisdom and truisms are iconic. Like, "Do or Do not. There is no Try." I've heard this for decades! LOL. All of his dialogue in that scene with Luke being dejected is incredible and it opened a mainstream audience to some esoteric, spiritual wisdom. Our societies today can connect them much more easily than I think the zeitgeist of the time. These movies were really revolutionary on so many levels.

Mitchel

I'm surprised (well not that surprised, easy to miss I guess) you didn't catch the bounty hunter's voice actor, since it's the same actor who played Jango Fett and the ship they flew out on cause that's Jango Fett's ship. That is Boba Fett, the kid from Episode 2. Not to critique your watch order. But there was more to why we encouraged you to watch OGs first, not just because of Vadar and Luke - This would of been your introduction to Yoda, then you would of seen him in the prequels. Like you mentioned. - This would of been your introduction "The Bounty Hunter" the coolest character in OGs growing up. And the whole reason why Jango Fett was created. - You'd find out there is another hope besides Luke but not know its Leia - You would of found out Vadar is Anakin. - Leia and Luke kissing wouldnt of been weird, though you lose the comedy of it. - A lot of key points in prequels would of hit different too. like Obi-wan learning to communicate with Qui-Gon. Aka learning how to become a Force Ghost. Nonetheless, I'm glad you found value in watching chronological order.

The Magician

Vader knows Luke is his son at the start of the movie but plays dumb to Emperor Palpatine during the hologram scene. Basically, Vader wants to join up with Luke so they can kill Palpatine and rule as father and son. While Palpatine wants Luke to replace Vader because he’s younger and not half machine. Sith are always conspiring against each other. The bounty hunter is the cloned son of Jango Fett and he’s called Boba Fett. We saw Boba when he was a kid in Episode II. There were 3 years between Ep4 and Ep5 which is why Luke has progressed and why Han/Leia have the relationship they do. There’s another year between Ep5 and Ep6.

Really enjoying re-watching Star Wars from your perspective in chronological order! When I was little, I watched it in the release-order. One thing I find interesting is that because of your knowledge of Anakin, the way the line “I am your father” hits is different. For me, when I was watching up until this point, Darth Vader was is ultimate EVIL being - killing with no mercy, the scary voice, the scary walk, the theme. So you could feel Luke’s pain and fear in - how on earth could he be related to this horrible EVIL?! From your reaction, with your sympathy for Anakin, and by extension Darth Vader, there was a little less intensity to his evilness. So the reveal of “I’m your father” felt more tragic, and sympathetic, for Luke. Both are different! Both just as interesting and powerful! :D

Jonathanese

Machete order is good if you have pretty much no knowledge of anything Star Wars. Or a few bits here and there. Since Spartan already knew the big reference, chronological is going to hit harder for him, because there was no big sucker punch moment, and instead he gets to watch the OT with a LOT more weight behind it. Plus, I think they're the only reaction channel I've seen watch it in order. Most to release order, some to Machete which is cool, but none I've seen have done chronological, so it's very unique.

Jay Doe

I personally would prefer that they do it chronologically

Cleaver

Unfortunately, yes Obi Wan is dead. He became one with the force just as Vader's lightsaber hit him in episode 4, which is why his body vanished. But as he told Vader, if he was struck down he would become more powerful than he could possibly imagine.

Timmy Saxton

Lol after watching Han put luke into the dead animal you guys should watch “The Revenant”

Alex Thrailkill

Chronological first time watches are extremely rare. Y’all’s analysis at the end is so fun, especially the mention about Palpatine intentionally separating Anakin and Darth Vader as different people. You’re both gonna have so much fun exploring the books/comics/games/etc. when you finish your watch (or at least the YouTube videos explaining the lore from those sources lol)

Alex Thrailkill

When/if I have kids, I’d go Machete Order. If someone knows the “I am your father” line, I’d definitely lean chronological though.

Noah Nour

I think u guys missed the solo reaction if you are going chronological order because it takes place before rouge one, love tne reaction, much love🤗❤️

Ludus Aurea

Didn’t this already post like over the weekend ? Just asking, I think I paused before dagobah or something because it was bed time.

Ludus Aurea

This was alluded to at the end of episode 3 but yea without the context of seeing the originals first it wouldn’t mean much. It’s unfortunate that the prequels weren’t really made to be watched first.

EdReedFan20

The actor for Palpatine was added in for the 2004 DVD release. Originally, it was a hodgepodge of a male voice actor, female face, with the eyes of a chimpanzee superimposed. Yeah....

EdReedFan20

In a canonical comic book series (Marvel's Star Wars, Issue 6 from 2015), Boba provides Vader with the knowledge of Luke's name.

spartanandpudgey

no i think all orders are viable, its because so many people thought we ruined it for ourselves that we are sharing how much this order has worked for US

Estevan Rivera

this is the youtube edit, the other one was the uncut version

I was 7 when this movie came out. My dad took me to see it opening night. The line was wrapped around the movie theater - it was crazy! It was such an incredible experience. Even though most of the story went over my head (I was pretty young), I was completely hooked on all the characters and the cool battles, I loved the droids and the lightsabers -- I had never seen anything so cool. And yes, the "I am your father" reveal was MASSIVE at the time. I remember people in the audience audibly gasped and were like, "Holy sh!t!" Kids at school were arguing over whether Vader was lying to Luke or not... :) The action figures were all over the place those days, and fast food places had Empire Strikes Back toys and cups and trading cards, and Darth Vader was all over the cover of every magazine, and news stations were talking about how the movie was breaking records left and right -- it's hard to explain what a phenomenon it was back then. All three of the original trilogy movies were massive milestones in cinema history. And man, those practical FX (miniatures & models) STILL look pretty great to this day. :)

Ben

Imagine having to wait 3 years to see what happens next. Anyway, great reaction! I was actually moved watching this with you guys, almost as if I were 6 years old watching it in the theater again.

Ben

It takes time for them to edit it for youtube. Then when you go to post it, Youtube will likely be upset that you've violated too many copyright restrictions, and you'll have to re-edit and try again and again.

Ben

Picasso

Solo is its own movie, not really sure if it will fit it with the Chronological order you guys are watching Star Wars in. But either way it's still a good movie on its own.

Kyle K

Y’all will love episode 6

Frontispice

They have changed the look and voice of the Emperor from the original movie, in order to match Episode III, but (incredible fact), it's still the exact same actor in every single Star Wars movie, back from the 70s (Ian McDarmid).

Frontispice

Vader's music is the Imperial March (by the genius John Williams). You can hear it at some point in the prequels, for example when Sidious give him the name Vader.

Stripping Poets

I wasn’t one who had a hard stance about not doing it chronologically but I did see where everyone was coming from. I gotta say though, you guys have swayed me that doing it this way is just as good. I was worried that the reveal wouldn’t have the same impact but seeing how it made you guys feel totally changed my mind. I wonder if I would have liked the series more right off the bat if I did it this way. I didn’t really get into it ‘till I watched all of clone wars cause I really like relationship building, character building and the extra lore of the universe.

Stripping Poets

Man, that’s so cool. It sounds like it was an awesome time :) I love when something builds such a vibe and sense of community.

Julianjjz

solo is a terrible movie

EdReedFan20

Yeah. The movie came out in 1980. The new Palpatine footage was recorded in 2004 while Revenge of the Sith was in production. So, it feels somewhat out of place.

LtGambler

General Veers who attacks the rebels at the start in the giant At-At walker is the same actor that plays Pycelle in Game of thrones.👌🏼

Obvious

Luke bringing down the AT-AT is the most Anakin thing he has ever done in a battle.

Sam

For the record for the next movie I believe there’s a small time skip about 2 or 3 yrs I think it’s useful context as it’s not made clear in the movie (the time skip may be more or less if I’m wrong someone please correct me idk the exact amount of years)

Montae Williams

Yeah I was thinking either way there’d be a twist. Especially if you’ve been exposed to some spoilers already.

Louis PG

can' wait for you guys reaction to Luke and Anakin Dialogue in ROTJ

Alejandro Herrera

I love your commentary after the episode. I'm convinced now that George Lucas was right that the best order is watching them 1-6 like you guys are watching it. I feel like George did things so brilliantly with mirroring the prequel to the original trilogy so that they have even MORE meaning when you watch them in order. Really hope y'all eventually watch Clone Wars (an essential episodes version cause there are way too many useless episodes), then Kenobi, Rebels and Andor

LX

Love spartans take that watching it in chronological order adds more weight i have always watched it this way since I was younger. Even the i am your father line is better as he said. Yoda was also definitely just testing Luke's patience when he first arrived

LX

No it doesnt the scene in lines were always in the movie. The emperor looked exactly the same hust a slightly different face

lazerbrain8d4

I'm so glad you enjoyed it, especially the Yoda and Luke training scenes. Its genuinely some of my favorite dialog in all of cinema. And I regularly use some of those motivational lines with my kids. Once you're done with the series I would suggest (if you could or wanted to) make the trip to Disneyland or Disney world. Galaxies Edge is so exciting. Yes, it is just a theme park, but ive been 5 or 6 times and it never gets old. Seeing that universe up close, the props, costumes, and rides feel so immersive. its hard to describe.

lazerbrain8d4

Also, I don't think the order you watch the movies in has any influence on how you perceive this film or the big highlight moments in it. For example, they show Empire strikes back in theaters for the big anniversary years (40 & 45) etc. I think my daughter was 6 at the time so we took her to see it. She had seen a new hope and maybe phantom menace. But we made sure to rewatch Ep IV a few days before going. The moment it was on screen my kids were hooked. And when the big vader/luke reveal happened kids in the theater were freaking out. My daughter leaned over and asked "is it true. Is he lying" I said no, he is his father. She was stunned. Jaw on the floor. I was so excited and jealous to see her feel that for the first time. One of the best movie experiences I've had with her or anyone.

Louis PG

in the book empire strikes back from another point of view Yoda wanted to train Leia as Yoda thought Luke was too much like Anakin

Brian Landers

When are we getting ep. 6. Hahahaha.

Travis Gray

Can't wait for return of the Jedi

Miloš 🇷🇸

Why does Vader act surprised when Palpatine says Luke is his son? In the beginning of the movie Vader says Skywalker is on the ice planet, he uses his own surname, couldn’t he guess that he might be his distant cousin at least? And he said Luke is strong with the force at the end of episode 4!!! So how did he not put that together and how did I just think of this now

Brian Tetrick

Today the chronological order makes sense. Darth Vader being Luke's father is well known. But when this film first came out it was huge. Episode IV was a big, big success. Word got around that it was like nothing else before and everyone went to see it. By Episode V's release everyone was ready to go and the audiences were huge. When the reveal came about Vader, if you could tap into the force you would have felt millions of people saying "Oh, My God!"
