So fucking excited for this

Awesome, a Star Wars movie to get me through this 102 degree Boston heat

James Waters

I can't comment but I can't not comment, so this is my comment- oof.

CharliejAnderson

If we don't get the ob one series on your chanel its a robbery love your guys reactions

Artanis

This movie contorted and confused George Lucas' conception of the force and how it worked for a lot of people and I think that's a bit frustrating. I think these Grey force user ideas are a fun enough concept but it's not well placed in the main Canon media. George was very clear that the dark side is a corruption and manipulation of the force. The Jedi are flawed as they are human, but the light side is balance. The dark side is not part of what is meant as "balance in the force". While I think toying with the idea of a group that wants to do something different from the Jedi or sith is cool (and has been done before, well) I feel this was not the best way to go about it. Canto Bight took up a fourth of the movie, was ham fisted and added almost nothing to the movie. It's largely the same if you cut that entire part out. Some characters wasted or misused. Some cool fight scenes though if you don't look too closely. Snokes end seemed wildly dumb and forced imho, but the overall context is relatively fun. I really feel they wasted the potential of that character. Every single one these sequel trilogy films has some great stuff (some of the journey or context around those things can be another story), some good stuff, and a lot of very questionable stuff unfortunately. All 3 movies I like some things from and dislike things from but overall I think they are pretty poorly planned and as a result written and executed, and it becomes more obvious on rewatches. Bad planning and processes from the executive teams in charge of managing the directors, and the directors themselves (both of them) and overall plans led to a very mixed bag with a lot of unused potential unfortunately. If others disagree that's of course fine, just my take.

Artanis

I love Obi Wan as a character. I was so excited for that show, but unfortunately it's one of the worst of the TV series.

David Cansler

Great to see how u love these sequels.

Pablo

YES YES YES I knew you were gonna like this one. For me is a Top 3 right behind IV and V. I love this move. The hate for it i will never understand, its like people saw the first 5 minutes and then choose not to see the rest of the movie. Like hello? Characters have arcs, they learn from their mistakes and they grow from it. Luke is amazing in this, the fact that people think he should be the representation of good because he made the right decision once when he believed in his father like he will never make a mistake ever in his life. Nop. Luke always was a little bit dark and his character arc in this is fucking amazing. Also thats Rian Fucking Johnson for you guys. Probably the best director to ever heald a Star Wars movie. This movie looks fucking amazing, it is edited amazing like the force connection with Rey and Kylo is done purely from editing and blocking (that's when you tell the actor where to move and where to look) like purely cinematic tools put at the service of the story. I really recomed you check his knives out movies, also he directed the best episode of Breaking Bad btw. Man is a fucking legend

Josh M

I just can't get past what they did to Luke in this one. If they were going to make him a sad old hermit, I would've wanted a better sacrifice than what we got. And Rose is terribly annoying to me. Many Star Wars fans HATE this one, I would call it a mixed bag.

Pablo

No it didn't. This movie understands the force better than all the prequels. Midiclorians? Get that shit out of here. The force is within every living thing and it binds everything together. It's not about blood lines and shit. "The Force does not belong to the Jedi" the force was there long before them, to say that the light dies with them is avarice. Also Canto Bight exits to tie the whole movie together (even tho i preffer the other plots), to prove that doing the right thing alone can spark a rebelión. Literally the last line of the movie is "How will we rebuild the rebelion" and then we cut to the child. A child who is literally no one but who got inspired by the acts of kindness he witnessed. The force can come from everywhere, that's why Rey's parents are no one, its irrelevant. The trick is to prove to others that there's good to rise against evil and so more will join. You take out canto bight the whole movie looses its theme. Again, it is literally the closing shot of the movie.

Artanis

Pablo, with all due respect, I challenge you to go find the interviews and writings from George from now to the 1970s and copy and paste some of his explanations of the force and Jedi and dark side etc. here for me. You won't, and I know why. Because it doesn't line up with what you are stating. You also seem confused about what the midichlorians role is, but I don't blame you for that as that's a very common misunderstanding. George never said it was about bloodlines, and midichlorians don't suggest that either. In ravt he said the opposite. Genetics can and have, especially in the films, been a factor but they are not required. Whatsoever. If you like this movie that's fine, I like parts of it a lot, it's a mixed bag for me. The cinematography is fantastic and arguably the best of all the films. To the core point, I'm failing to see how anyone could say that George's explanation of the force is not in major conflict with this films depiction blatantly. You don't have to agree with his take either, but it is the creators take all the same. Wild take to say the guy that invented this stuff doesn't understand it. "The force can come from everywhere, and it flows through all life." So you agree with George on this part then... I think maybe before debating people you should work on being less confused. Thanks, again, with respect.

Sheri

I freakin LOVE this movie! The best of the sequels. I love Luke's story arc about failure and hope, Poe's story arc about leadership, and I LOVE the interactions between Rey and Ben. Adam Driver is one of my favorite actors. Glad you both appreciated it more than the previous episode.

Sheri

Same. Freakin' LOVE this one.

Wesker

….no….just no…

Sheri

I agree Pablo. 100%. This is a fantastic movie. I really wish Rian Johnson had directed all the sequels.

Pablo

You are right, I won't go watch some George Lucas interviews. Why would I do that? I'm a film lover im here to watch movies because I love them and I only know what the movies have told us. And this feels way more consistent with the view of the Force from the originals than the prequels. Also Lucas greatest masterpiece is Star Wars (I mean the original first movie, a new hope) but we gotta understand that George is not really that good of a director and that movie was really made in the editing room by his wife, to make sense of the mess of a movie that they shot. Also the guy keeps coming back and changing his own movie, making contradictions to characters, and lore. So I wouldn't trust a George Lucas interview if I were you.

Pablo

I know, it really sucks that the whole world lost its mind after this one. They didnt really let Rian have his whole vision realized. If he had made episode 9 without all the backlash that would've been fucking amazing. If only

Sheri

At the end of the discussion, Pudgey is right about why Luke died. When Kylo/Ben first connected with Rey earlier in the movie, he said "You're not doing this, the effort would kill you." It was basically foreshadowing for Luke. Also, by restoring hope, he had served his purpose and felt at peace, ready to let go. And side note... the original plan was for episode 7 to be Han's, episode 8 to be Luke's, and episode 9 to be Leia's episode. But with Carrie Fisher's death, episode 9 had to be completely rewritten.

Pablo

Excelent reaction guys. Spartan, your explanation about Luke's arc in the end discussion, nailed it. That's exactly how I'd say it was intended to feel like. Glad to see you guys liked it, I hadn't watch this in almost 10 years and I had tons of fun and some really emotional bits. Also quick heads up, people really lost their minds to this movie back then, that made disney back down on their risky bet of giving full control to a director like this time and so they scraped what they had planned for episode 9 and instead make a corporate slop :/ its really sad I don't ill be able to watch it again but in case I don't come back its been a great journey, thanks a lot guys <3

Hank Scorpio

2nd worst Rise of Skywalker is the worse overall Edit: At least this movie TRIED to do something. 2nd Edit: Aside from a few really ridiculous moments (Leia flying, Holdo Maneuver) this movie was actually better than Force Awakens on rewatch.

Christopher

Interesting, I remember liking 7 and did not enjoy it rewatching it and I hated 8 but this watch through I quite enjoyed it. I also really enjoy Kylo Ren and Adam Driver’s acting. He’s probably my favorite Star Wars character (from the movies), even though the sequel trilogy are definitely the bottom of the list of the movies for me.

Wesker

so basically you’re trying to discredit the prequels concept of the force saying they don’t understand it even though you don’t understand yourself. got it👍

Pony

Never seen this. Going in with an open mind, but knowing people dislike it... edit. I liked it. It had it flaws but it wasn't bad.

Christopher

When a life-form dies in Star Wars, their energy joins the cosmic flow, but by fully giving themselves to the Force in life before passing on, some masters can preserve their consciousness and become "one with the Force" after death aka force ghosts. It’s a way to preserve immortality in a sense, living on through the force. You can’t do it after you die.

N7Phoenix115

So glad you watched this!!! I respect everyone's opinions but I am so glad you are watching and enjoying these! These were the Star Wars films for my teens and growing up and getting to see them in movies and be excited again! Can't wait for Episode IX!!!

N7Phoenix115

Also reposting this comment here in the hopes one or both of you see it Spartan or Pudgey! I tried reading through to see if anyone mentioned or cleared it up but did not find anything. Princess Leia, (actress Carrie Fisher), was alive and filmed all of her scenes herself for Episode 7 & 8. Filming had wrapped on 8 but production had not begun on episode 9 when she passed. So she herself was not alive to film scenes for Episode 9. :(

Luke

Yeah I’m convinced that Pablo is an op

Luke

Stop rage baiting bro , your opinion is safely protected under a microscopic minority that thinks this is decent or good whatsoever. The vast majority of people disagree with you and luckily still have the semi collective wisdom to determine what’s canonical and good quality and what complements the Starwars universe.

DRIP DROP

Even if you love these movies you cant argue that they butchered Luke's character

MajinVegeta420

i don't remember them ever claiming only jedi and/or only select bloodlines have midichlorians and can use the force, anyone can. nor do i remember them ever claiming that it being called midichlorians somehow now means that it/the force is now somehow NOT "in and around every living thing and binding it together." no offense but i think your just simply up in arms about it being called midichlroians like most of the older fanbase was and still is when those movies dropped. like them not realizing they never "changed the lore of the force" or how it works they simply added onto it and gave the conduit for it a name and you and everyone else that grew up with the first 3 movies for some reason misinterpreted was what said in the prequels and despised/despise unarguably great movies/lore cause of it. i can get hating/not liking the movie cause of jar jar i dont agree with it but i get it i can get hating/not liking the movie cause of a quarter of it to half of it being about pod racing i dont agree with it but i get it. but i cant get/get on board with hating it cause of the minute long midichlorian scene that changed nothing because of it supposedly changing everything about the force and how the force works.

MajinVegeta420

Bruh....i just remembered how this final movies goes....you aren't a blind watcher like spartan and pudgey and im assuming youve watched it more then once unlike me. how can you say things like "its not about bloodlines and shit" insultingly towards the prequels and bloodlines not being a thing in these movies and rey being nobody when you know damn well none of those things are true. Rey and Kylo are the literal definition and epitome of "bloodlines" lol XD < 3. Hell not to mention that now that i think about it you realise literally every single star wars movie technically and literally has to do with bloodlines right? you would be better off using as a "no bloodlines" example any of the games or any of the tv shows or comics etc hell literally any of star wars media/lore that ISN'T the movies because half of if not more then half of them have literally nothing to do with bloodlines where as the movies have literally everything to do with bloodlines. yes that includes the original trilogy i hate to break it to you but luke isn't some random sand farmer lol XD < 3 there's plenty of examples of what you speak of of the bloodlines thing and the force being used by people considered to be "no one/ a nobody" thing in tons of other star wars media/s but not the movies

MajinVegeta420

No, the prequel trilogy never claimed the Force isn't in everything. Instead, the films expanded on how it works by introducing midi-chlorians in The Phantom Menace. The Prequels' Explanation In The Phantom Menace Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn explains that midi-chlorians are microscopic lifeforms that reside within all living cells. He describes them as symbionts that allow living beings to interact with the Force, noting that without them, "we would have no knowledge of the Force". This established that the Force's has a connection to all biological life, not that the Force itself is absent anywhere. The Original Trilogy Context You are likely contrasting this with Obi-Wan Kenobi's famous description in A New Hope, where he says the Force "is an energy field created by all living things" that "surrounds us and penetrates us". The prequels DO NOT contradict this; rather, they add to the lore by explaining how physical beings act as conduits for this omnipresent energy. Would you like to explore how other forms of the Force—such as the Living Force versus the Cosmic Force—are explained in the lore?

TM2

As rage bait goes, this is certainly some of it, lol. You do you, Pablo/Sheri

TM2

I watched the discussion at the end, which, fair enough. Mostly they just didn't touch on any of the awful stuff. I'm not watching the reaction lol.

TM2

Let's also add Rose taking out Finn, and everything on Canto Bight :P

TM2

We can all tell that you and Sheri are the same person, Pablo

Pablo

😂😂

Kayleb Patel

Love? Maybe this film but they didnt have that opinion for episode 7

Yusuf

Only going to get worse. We are already seeing the consequences of made made climate change. :/

Paul W

I'm glad you guys enjoyed but I just can't see past all the flaws. And it's no wonder since they had different directors for VII and VIII who were totally at odds with each other's vision. It was also later revealed that there was no clear story written to span all 3 films and they essentially winged it one movie at a time. Not the way to execute a cohesive trilogy. And the portrayal of Luke in this movie was so out of character. Even the actor Mark Hamill himself said so and made his dissatisfaction known to the director during filming. If you want watch an amusing video of a movie critic point out some of the other flaws, check this one out: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cAnZEm1TXqw

Kayleb Patel

Leia floating back will always be cringe to me lol

MateoP

I can’t believe I actually watched through all of these when they came out 🤣💀 never again! but they show how amazing the old ones are and how good writing there is in clone wars and some of the live action stuff !📈 this one’s a 5/5 📉

Hank Scorpio

I was referring to things that ruin the lore.

icymathratios

Unpopular opinion here, but this is easily my favorite of the sequel trilogy, despite not being a fan of the sequels as a whole. George Lucas himself famously said each Star Wars movie should show us something we haven’t seen before and that there wasn’t anything new about The Force Awakens. At least this one explored some new themes and original ideas and took risks, even if not all of them work. The Finn/Rose storyline may not work well but all the Rey/Kylo/Luke stuff is great. Yoda’s scene is near perfect. It’s also so refreshing to see Spartan, whose takes I haven’t always agreed with (see Billy-Stranger Things and Shane-TWD lol), actually get the point of the Holdo/Poe story right away. So many, including myself, were so quick to judge Holdo and side with Poe. Poe actually getting some character development and learning to be a leader is so much more interesting to me than having him just be the same old hero character who kicks ass and saves the day. Anyway, thanks for the great reaction Spartan & Pudgey. Kudos to you guys for staying true to your own thoughts and always keeping an open mind despite what the fans and commenters say. May the Force be with you both.

Ammaar Ahmed

I independently didn’t like this one. I wasn’t aware of the fan hate for it, and in hindsight now I understand why people felt Luke was butchered. I was very bored and disliked Finn/Rose storyline, Captain Phasma was always a wet blanket, the stupidity of the pink lady holding back pivotal information leading to the attempted coup lol (such stupid writing), and Snoke randomly dying. Most people also didn’t like the Rey reveal or Luke’s arc but inwas fine with that. I will say though, it’s the best of the 3. Last one was a rip off, next is awful, at least this had some identity. And I’d argue it’s flaws are built up by the last movie and the lack of any writing plan

Ammaar Ahmed

It’s not that bad and S&P will most likely enjoy it. They enjoyed the last season of GOT and this movie too

Miloš 🇷🇸

Crazy how different the movie feels when you change your perspective and watch thru your view

Lynda Olson

Adam driver is my favorite actor because of this movie. It’s why I fell in love with his acting. One good thing Kathleen Kennedy did, he was cast because of his role in Lincoln that Kathleen saw and liked.

John Neiberger

This is the movie that killed any remaining interest in Star Wars for me. It's awful in almost innumerable ways. I saw it in theaters and I'm still mad that I paid money to see such an atrocious dismantling of the story setup from the previous episode. I hate literally everything about this piece of garbage. This put such a bad taste in my mouth, I haven't seen anything Star Wars-related since.

Terje Mickelson

So glad you enjoyed this movie. Personally, I dislike it as a Star Wars movie, but it still entertains me. I love how positive you are, and it makes it even easier to enjoy it. Can't wait for you to react to the next movie, and really hope you will watch the shows also!

Pablo

I wasn't rage baiting i do love this movie but I might as well own it now since people have written full bibles in here because of on comment I made lol nobody is reading that

Andrew

Shane never would’ve just disappeared like that.

Alexander Ocean

This is what I love about you guys, no matter how much people try to dump their own expectations and opinions on you, you always form your own. I also found this entertaining. Thanks for the reaction and authenticity!

Wesleybucks

7 was fine but played everything safe. It introduced some interesting new characters but the story was so unimaginative. Basic. Episode 8 is easily my fave of the new trilogy. The cinematography, the themes of grey morality and the willingness to actually try something new. JJ Abrams doesn't have an original creative bone in his body. Both with Wars and Trek, he helped bring them back by doing exactly what came before. I will admit it is a huge shame they didn't plan the trilogy ahead of time. When you watch all three in quick succession it feels like a couple divorcing and fighting against each other and Last Jedi does suffer because of that. Nothing will ever touch the original trilogy but Last Jedi is by far the best of this trilogy.

bbz

if you watch the credits a little longer, there was a “In loving memory of our Princess Carrie Fisher” (she died after filming and before the release of this movie). Also the girl with the Leia buns in the first scene, who is shown a few more times throughout the movie, is Carrie Fisher’s daughter

TN

I really like this movie too and your reaction to it! (:

URxBREATHTAKING

Yes, i agree this was the best movie of the sequels, every time i re-watch star wars this one gets better but 7 and 9 don't for me. Good movies for me stand the test of time and rewatches.

URxBREATHTAKING

Your feminist leftist propaganda is fading.

URxBREATHTAKING

Yes, force awakens is cringe, the last jedi gets better the more you watch it, the others don't

Arrendis

This one has a complicated place in my heart. Rian Johnson at least had some kind of vision for what he was doing. And while Luke's character wasn't what I (or Mark Hamill, for that matter) saw for him, I can see how this version could have come about. A lot of what happened when this came out, I think, is that we went into this trilogy with *expectations*, and JJ basically re-did Episode IV for Episode VII (which shouldn't have surprised us after his Star Trek movies). The fact that they didn't have a full story for the trilogy in mind also hurt them. Rian came in and wanted to do his own thing, and he and JJ definitely weren't on the same page.

TimTakDoh

When I left the theater after watching this movie I felt it was one of the best Star Wars movies created and I still feel that way. Was it perfect? No, and neither was any of the original films or any Star Wars film for that matter. You can nick pick and point out "flaws" in any of the movies. However, this film had some great moments. As for Luke, it was always so weird that people said "this isn't Luke Skywalker" or "they ruined him" when this was exactly who Luke has always been. Yoda's appearance in this film showed exactly that. Luke has always been a person who never was in the moment, always looking to the horizon. Never looking at what was in front of him. The fact that he's a "Jedi Master" doesn't make him all knowing or unstoppable(like so many fans still hold him up as.) He can be one of the most powerful Jedi ever and still be a flawed, imperfect person. I'm glad you both enjoyed this film. Don't let annoyed, sometimes(a lot of times) ridiculous fans of the franchise tell you what you should or should not enjoy.

TimTakDoh

Obi Wan was a fantastic series. They will love it. I just hope we get to see Clone Wars & Rebels reactions because I feel that they are very much needed if they are going to dive into some of the tv shows. Plus, late seasons Clone Wars are probably up there top 3 in terms of star wars material. Just 'chiefs kiss"

MateoP

Top 3 🤣 and I bet she hulk right next it as well 😭📉

Pablo

Sure man

Kelly Myers

Love this trilogy, can't wait for you to see 9!

Kelschman

I cant believe I'm going to say it, but this one was better than the force awakens on rewatch. Even if I didnt agree with all the choices they made with the story, at least this one was actually trying to do something with the story. Force awakens felt hollow. We dont need to talk about the rise of skywalker lol

Zane Platt

The Last Jedi is a bizarre movie because it contains both the absolute best and the absolute worst of the trilogy. - Kylo and Rey's chemistry and burgeoning relationship is fantastic - The theme of people misinterpreting (which is what Snoke does) or inadvertently causing the future they are trying to avoid (which is what Luke does) is really compelling and continues on with what George did in the prequels - Holdo's sacrifice and the reality that gung ho heroic isn't always the right thing to do is good stuff - I really liked how the film depicts the force - The throne room 'turn' and fight is very cool (despite its unrealistic choreography) There are however some massive issues with the movie that prevent me from loving it. Just like with Luke, we have very little reason for why Rey would ever turn to the dark side. So once again teasing that just doesn't work Her backstory with her parents just isn't interesting and ends up resolving in the dumbest way imaginable anyway The entire subplot with Finn and Rose is truly awful. It feels like something out of a Disney channel original movie to me. The humor throughout doesn't work for me and feels very MCU esque. Forced jokes to undermine serious moments The biggest sin it commits though is that pretty much nothing actually changes when you think about it. It is essentially a film where it goes somewhere cool and unique before reversing course and being same old, same old. Rey and Kylo bond and develop an interesting relationship only to once again hate each other by the end. Rey is trained, sure, but she was already more powerful than Kylo and ends the movie more powerful. So that is a mute point. The resistance just finds another base... Luke's arc is absolutely the most bizarre to me though because it undermines Kylo and feels very at odds with everything else. He basically considers killing his nephew over dark thoughts being pushed to him by Snoke. Then, the movie absolves him of that, by making Kylo revert to being a one note villain and having Luke clown him. It is so odd. The movie makes the decision to leave it's central villain less powerful, less threatening and less compelling by the end. Rise of Skywalker was doomed no matter what because Rian Johnson left things in such an odd place.
