Cam

One of my favorite episodes of all time. So many close calls with the Stark children, to finally see them reunite after watching the show for 6 years was such a special moment 🥲 I knew Pudgey was gonna feel all the feels.

Sean van Hengel

Fair critique at the end Spartan. I guess I never consciously realised it myself until you mentioned. Loved the scene and what happened but it did happen a bit quick. Also; she didn’t just kill one Khal, she killed all of them. They were all gathered together in that room.

Angel M

The Tower of Joy scene happened after the Sack of King's Landing, Jaime killing Aerys Targaryen and Robert usurping the Iron Throne. Rhaegar, Elia Martell, the Mad King are all dead at this point since Robert has pretty much won the war after the Trident. This is covered in the videos you watched of past seasons of Lore and History. This part of the timeline is the closing segments of the war which also expands more on Lyanna's fate. Won't say beyond much of this part though.

Cam

Also, towards Spartan’s critique of the Dothraki storyline, completely valid however, the Dothraki follow strength above all. This is also why they turned so quickly on Drogo when he became weak. Nothing is more of a show of strength than burning the Khals and coming out of the fire. She knew that and used it to her advantage.

Haseenudeen

When osha escaped with bran and rickon, she used that same tactic where she seduced the guard and then killed him. Ramsey knew that before she even entered the room as he said, "theon told me everything". So she could have never played ramsey, in a sense he played her by giving her a chance to think that she could kill him.

Adrian Neagoe

The last scene just felt repetitive. She steps out of the fire again, everyone bows to her again, Jorah bows to her again. It just doesn’t hit the same the second time

Mike

Hey Spartan, try to remember the Dothraki culture. If you kill a Khal, you become the Khal of their khalassar, Everyone Dany burned in the temple were great Khals, so because she killed them she took over all of their khalassar's. Which is why everyone bowed to her when she came out of the temple.

Dani

Dothraki follow powerful leaders and Dany literally killed all the leaders and the Khal and walked out in the middle of the flames. They'd obviously follow her. But as always, a great reaction guys.

Daniel Siegel

I think they hit the nail on the head about the way characters have been killed off boom boom boom. Spartan noted also that in the seasons still based on the books, deaths came about as a result of more intricately plotted story lines. Part of this has to do with the approaching end of the series, meaning some stories have to be closed down to leave time for the main characters. In an ideal world George RR Martin would have finished the books and HBO would have approved 10 or 12 full seasons to tell the stories at the same pace as the first half of the show. But despite the drawbacks of not having the books and the limitations of having just 8 seasons, there are still plenty of amazing moments ahead!

S.

Fully agree on Dani's scene - as epic as it was, it felt like repetition. I love the character, don't get me wrong. I loved Jon/Sansa reunion, long time coming! The highlight of the reaction for me, however, was definitely Pudgey's anger for Osha - I'm not sure we have heard Pudgey swear often! Thanks again for a great reaction!

Joana

Spartan, while I can understand your point of view, I don’t agree but I can understand , however the Dothraki follow strength. They’ve said that before, THAT IS why they turned on Drogo so quickly, and so on, THAT is why they bowed to Dany so easily, she killed tha Khals obviously they will see her as the strongest!

Elvira Heredia

Remember the profecy when dany was pregnant eeatin a horse heart “the stallion who mounts the world, they thought her son was going to join the Dothraki into one Khalasar. The truth is was Dany all along.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

It was so frustrating waiting for Ned’s family to have a reunion, but this was worth the wait—Jon had just been murdered by his men and come back, and Sansa had just escaped the worst monster in the show who’d had her locked up. They both went from the very lowest moments of their entire lives to finally having family they trust and love again. I love their reunion so, so much and have rewatched it dozens of times. And them talking by the fire and BOTH of them smiling multiple times! It’s so rare to see them light up with genuine smiles! And I LOVE that Jon’s instinct is to protect her like Ned would have wanted, and that it is SANSA’S idea to take back Winterfell. She’ll DO IT HERSELF IF SHE MUST. Fuck yes, Sansa! Fuck yes. Ramsay didn’t break her, he motivated her further, made her resolve and loyalty even stronger.

kelly

its always interesting the discourse around Dany and the Targaryens as a whole. this is a family who are essentially colonizers. Full stop. That doesn't mean Dany has bad intentions by any means but due to her family's history with Westeros, her attitude towards her entire situation is directly informed by that fact even if she doesn't see it that way. I've always said, its one thing to conquer nations, but another to rebuild and manage them. Dany isn't great at that. There are many variables as to why of course and I have several conflicting feelings around her as a character, but its just outright disingenuous for people not to acknowledge the facts even if it makes them uncomfortable. But that's what we love about George's characters I think. They're all so very human and we want to root for them even when they aren't perfect, just like people do in real life. When its all said and done, I'd recommend watching Hill's Alive's videos on youtube around Dany as a character. I don't always agree, but I do think she gives a very interesting perspective that's well thought out and informed.

Jonny Rey

I disagree with Spartan’s take on the end. We’ve already seen with the Dothraki if you want to be respected/followed, you prove yourself through acts of dominance and bravery. What greater act of dominance and bravery than to go from being an unarmed prisoner to lighting a temple on fire with yourself inside in order to destroy your enemies? Then to emerge from the flames Unburned. Not to mention, every Khal in Vaes Dothrak was in that place when she burned it down, so all those people bowing just lost their individual leaders at the exact same time; Daenerys effectively just united 10 khalasars in one swoop. It’s also important to remember how superstitious the Dothraki are. Not only do they belief in witchcraft, but they’ve also likely grown up hearing stories of the white-haired Valyrian pyromancers and dragon riders from the days before the Doom. Lastly, the Dosh Khaleen are just as much revered and respected for their wisdom as Khals are for their strength, so it isn’t far off for the Dothraki to bow to a woman, especially when she’s the widow of a Great Khal.

Mar

Danny winning the respect of the Dothraki people happened so quickly because when you kill a Khal, you become the next Khal. But here Danny is not killing just one Khal, she killed all the khals of every khalasar and she did it without spilling blood, following the Dothraki tradition that prohibitis weapons in Vaes Dothrak, their sacred city. By doing this she's uniting all the Dothraki under one same big khalasar. She's become the Khal of khals.

Roy Koopa
>>107739015

The dothraki are an incredibly superstitious people who hate sorcery. She murders all of the khals and walks out the fire unburnt and everyone's like 'lol k you're our leader now great sorceress'. C'mon.

fritz

Mods please make a plan how to avoid calls for a certain video, before the season ends, because in my mind even the name of that video is a spoiler and I am aware that it does not make sense for the people to call for it after the season finale, so someone will probably mention it. I hope you will clear the comments from all hints at that video and frankly, I would love for them to not watch it at all or rather after season 7. There are certain things that are still ambiguous after the current season and I would love to see them figure it out episode by episode rather then getting a crash course. I tried to be as ambiguous as possible, but if you think it sets expectations, just delete my post.

I❤️movies&tvshows
>>107736098

HBO begged for 10 seasons but the writers were offered a Star Wars trilogy. They quickly tried to wrap this up to move on to the next show. Which is why there are so many comments from people about how different things are handled. Exactly like the comment Spartan is saying in this video.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

So many sibling reunions this episode! The Starks, the Tyrells, and the Greyjoys; and all those siblings all genuinely love each other. It’s so sweet.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

“Tormund eats the way I do.” But do you gaze at Pudgey while you eat the way that Tormund looks at Brienne, like, if you’re lucky you may be next? Ok, wait, don’t answer that!! LOL!!

Julia

Dany didn't just kill one khal she killed ALL the khals

Julien

Based on the intro they clearly didn’t see the comments re why Jon was free to leave the NW. 😂 Perhaps this episode was filmed before the previous one was posted. It’s more likely that they didn’t read the comments at all, which were a massive shit show until they got cleaned up.

NeneSays

Spartan….jon was dead for barely 2 eps and you weren’t complaining. Pudgey kinda touched on it during the review.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol

Jorah said in S1 that the Dothraki follow strength. Dany killed the khals in a matter of minutes. That’s an epic show of strength, and it being so fast and “easy” (I’d argue it was more “clever”) just made this mic drop moment more powerful and shocking, and I think that made her even more worthy of awe. I give up waiting on Spartan to have Dany on his love list. I don’t think that’s because she’s a woman, just something about her doesn’t resonate with Spartan. He seems to hold her to a higher standard than any of the other characters, no matter how big her armies get or what things she does that no other character can. But I respect that’s his prerogative/choice. I’m glad Pudgey puts respect on Dany’s name!

Scuba Steve

I think you guys need to be a bit careful on how much stock you’re putting into your members comments on the show after it surpasses the books. I feel like it’s given you an easy out to challenge deaths or events without evaluating why it happened the way it did. And I’ve noticed it being relied on more heavily as a crutch in the latest reactions. I feel your headed down the same path of a lot of other fans went and are now beginning to react to your expectations of what’s to come verses what is actually happening on screen and that’s not gonna make this series end well for you. There are some valid criticisms to be had with the writing but the majority of the peoples displeasure is because they thought the story should be dictated by their expectations (and thus a different outcome), which clearly is the polar opposite of everything Martin has shown in his writings to this point in time, and is what has made this series so successful. I mean no ill will, but I just see you heading down the same road of unreasonable expectations that can only end in disappointment. Also for the record. Dany is not impervious to fire. Targeryans are not impervious to fire. Dany coming out of the fire pit with the dragons WASNT normal and was a 1 time magical event. And the scene where she burns the Khals has not happened in the books and most likely will occur differently. Just want to clarify so there’s no expectations for this or House of Dragon that somehow targeryans can’t be burned. The most certainly can!

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol
>>107740706

I don’t disagree at all, but if you’re concerned this might be a hint and want the mods to watch, you might have better luck sending DMs to them instead of posting this, my friend. :)

Mzuka

Regarding the time period of the flash back scene from the previous episode, in it Ned says that Rhaegar lies beneath the ground. This is meant to tell us that this takes place after the battle of the Trident, at which Robert killed Prince Rhaegar As mentioned in Histories and Lore, Robert and Ned met after the sacking of KL and then Ned left and went south.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol
>>107731084

LOL Mel gave him a makeover with that hair clipping before bringing him back from the dead, just in case it worked. The Lord of Light showed her Jon would be more respected with a man bun. (To be clear, this is a joke, not a spoiler.)

fritz

About the scene at the end. I think you are missing a bit of context. Basically that temple that burned down is the single most sacred place of all the Dothraki and she did not just burn down one Khal. All the Khals with all the tribes gathered in their sacred city and she burnt them all down. And then a person walks out of the flames. It must feel like you have seen some kind of god, in comparison with their previous leaders who are just ordinary men.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol
>>107734512

Yup. He knew she was loyal to the Starks, and helped Rickon escape from Theon way back when. Ramsay couldn’t have a person like that nearby, he “had to” kill her to protect his plans. RIP, Osha, you were a very good character.

Scuba Steve

Osha was nothing more than a side character as well. Not every character has to, or can have a ceremonious death. That’s not how life works. Sometimes it’s just a sudden end. Her death made perfect sense for the exact reasons Ramsey gave her. He broke Theon and knew everything and she played directly into Ramseys hands, and while history tells her she can use sex to control men, she didn’t realize that Ramsey doesn’t function the way most men do. 😂

Jaroslav Dočekal

What I don't like about the scene is that Dothraki HATE magic. And she is fireproof. It would be much better if Drogon saved her again, even if it makes her look less powerful.

Panda_extravaganza

Welcome to season 6. 😂Hold on to your hats, the pacing is about to take off. Spartan, I think you may take some issue moving forward. Especially based off your reactions to Dany’s scenes this episode.

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol
>>107744763

At least he didn’t flay Osha! She was “lucky” to just get a quick death. I was very nervous watching him skin those apples.

Sean Carroll
>>107743218

Let’s be real everyone is disappointed by the later portions regardless. This isn’t news to anyone

Sean Carroll
>>107733403

Favourite episodes of all time??? Wow apart from the non and Sansa reunion this episode was average at best

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol
>>107733918

Can you please edit this to just refer to it as “the tower scene”? The nick-name of the tower should remain a mystery at this point.

Tinths

I think you're missing some things with the high sparrow. The stories he tells change depending on who he talks to, so he's not actually genuine with the stories he tells. Like for example, to Cersei he said he didn't have shoes because he gave them to someone who needs them more, but here he tells Margaery a different story with the shoes. There are some other small details like this too, but I don't remember them now.

Sean Carroll
>>107735827

While that’s true it just feels very odd that they would immediately bow to her after killing their leaders. The scene also is just way too overdramatic. I’ll be honest I’ve never been a fan of dany so this just feels super forced to me

Sean Carroll
>>107738200

The scene feels so forced and overdramatic though. Dothraki hate magic but all of a sudden don’t care?? Not to mention this scene has already been done before, it’s just not interesting. Not to mention the fact David and Dan invented this storyline randomly so that dany would get an extra army, it’s incredibly forced

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol
>>107734655

I respectfully disagree. This isn’t a small crowd watching her burn her late husband and bring forth baby dragons, it’s a big crowd watching her kill khals and take over. And the bowing crowd is completely different people (other than Jorah) and there’s very different stakes now. It’s also a nice note for Daario to see her be powerful without her dragons, after his “locker room talk” earlier about their sex life with Jorah, but that’s a minor note.

Sean Carroll
>>107743195

Dany is a boring character, her storyline is unbelievably uninteresting and every scene she’s in feels so overdramatic and forced. It just doesn’t ever feel real to me. I’m also way more of a fan of the Westeros storyline so going back to dany always bores me

Scuba Steve
>>107748398

Seriously this a shitty thing to do and the mods should delete this immediately. Don’t be that asshole

Rachel Taylor

Tyrion is an advisor to Dany--not her hand.

umu

Some of y’all need to stop announcing your hate for the later seasons of the show in every comment section of their reactions. You could dislike s6/7/8 without having to pick apart every little details and telling S&P how something didn’t make sense or influence their opinion. Not saying whether the dislike for later seasons is warranted or not but let S&P make their own opinions…

Mzuka

The Dany storyline feeling super easy is partly, I think, due to how quickly this storyline is resolved. All the people talking about Dothraki culture and following strength, while this is all true you can’t use lore to explain away the dissatisfaction of an easy resolution. This is a factor of the pacing of the story being kicked into high gear: think how long it took Dany to build up an army even near the size she’s accumulated now - 3 whole seasons. She’s literally taken over an ENTIRE PEOPLE in a couple of episodes.

Scuba Steve
>>107752015

To be fair power can grow exponentially the first few followers are the hardest ones to acquire. The bigger and stronger you get the easier it is to consume groups of people to your cause

Sean Carroll
>>107751808

Why should we, as long as we aren’t directly spoiling the plot then showing dissatisfaction for the remainder of the show is not an issue. Would you say the same thing if it was all positive feedback or do you just not have the capability to handle negativity or criticism.

Julien

Spartan's comments re Dany in this episode are a lot more reasonable than the comment section suggests. His point is valid and I suspect most fans would agree: it felt too easy. I felt that way too but on balance I just wanted her to get the fuck out of this tedious storyline by any means necessary. If this fire was it, so be it. 😂

Valcor

I get what Spartan is saying Danys story is abit rushed but there is a reason for that. They no longer have any books to go off and they have to develop her story fast.

Betty Alice

This is when you start noticing weird choices, but over all , it’s still good.

DrückebergerTV
>>107743101

Its all right. They know they need to be more critical now that the show is past the books, part of their audience expects them to be. They were propably shellshocked already how much S&P loved Season 5 lol No matter how their opinion may change going forward, this is already a big win for the show.

Valcor

Sansa and Johns reunion was so good man 6 years in the waiting for that moment. I remember being shocked she arrived so soon and that she was actually there.

Betty Alice

When you’re done the whole series, you guys should check out some theory videos

DrückebergerTV
>>107745119

They hate blood magic, not fire magic. Disagree So Hard on drogon. Making her appear powerful was the whole point. They need to follow her, not drogon

DrückebergerTV
>>107747200

That doesnt really contradict his story though. He still could give people his shoes after he left his former Lifestyle.

Jenny Tolls

I don’t understand why everyone in the comments feel compelled to spoil future events and talk about if the show gets better or worse. Y’all are some entitled jackasses that are trying to control how S&P feel about the show so you can feel better about yourselves. It’s pathetic and childish. Let them watch it without setting any expectations and have them formulate their own opinions. Just because you didn’t enjoy it doesn’t mean you get to ruin it for others. Get out of here if you don’t like it. Why are you even watching at this point??

Don’tDrinkTheLuminol
>>107751121

Agreed. He’s in a bad position and genuinely wants to be a good adviser to her, but there’s a line between trying to keep the peace and changing her policies in her absence.

walder slayyyyy

I love this show, and I love S&P, but these comment sections are starting to become a huge bummer. I don't even understand why people who are clearly so disgruntled would pay to watch again. This is my first time watching reactions to this show, so maybe that's just how it is. Discussions I can get down with, but this is supposed to be fun!!! Anyway love the reaction byeeeeee

Scuba Steve
>>107759557

Are you familiar with how Crabs are caught? No crab gets to escape the trap because the rest just pull it back down. Some people are the same way. Because they weren’t happy then it’s no fun for anyone!

Lyons

Honestly I don't know your system for reading comments, but if you want the best reactions possible.. don't read ANY for the remainder of the show. None of us read any comments first time watching, it's unnecessary imo.

Jenny Tolls
>>107760408

They do it because they want to actually interact with their fans which is part of the reason why we love them so much but it's becoming more difficult for them to do that as this channel keeps growing

Gummybear
>>107733653

Exactly and that’s why it’s not quick. She killed all the khals and emerged from the flames. Dothraki respect warriors and their law says that to become khal you kill all those who oppose you which she did. She earned their submission.

SuddenImpulse

Moderator Update: The spoilers and hints being given repeatedly in these comments, with refusal to acknowledge moderator requests, and violating posting rules, needs to stop. We have had some pretty serious spoiler comments on both youtube and patreon in the last few days. If a specific individual is doing this repeatedly even after requests we DO note their account and we keep track incase an escalation is necessary to resolve the issue with more permanence. We are really going to buckle down on this for the final stretch of the show. If we cannot make this current commenting-reading system work, we WILL be forced to consider other alternatives. Please don't mess this up for the majority. If you have questions, concerns, or aren't sure if something is okay to post feel free to DM one of us mods on Discord at any time. Thank you.

Nana-Afia
>>107738964

Colonization requires implementation of culture, religion, subjugation of native peoples and usually plundering of said colonies to bring back to the home nation. The targs are not that. They didn't force anyone to change their ways, they just united the war torn kingdoms. The dragon lords of old valyeria could be considered colonialists when they were in essos. So could the first men in the north (genocided the children and giants) and the sandals (responsible for the faith militant/light of the 7). Thats why danys character is actually the anthesis to her families legacy. They enslaved and colonized, she's freeing slaves and abolishing systems of slavery. I do agree that the what comes next part is difficult, but I think dany has been doing the best she could under the circumstances

Nana-Afia

Jorah, s3e1, "youll have a true khalisar when you prove yourself strong, and not before that". we finally see dany do that. I love when stories come full circle! Also I always laugh when I see Dario's face - yea man! Thats the woman youre sleeping with!!! Better bow down and close those doubting lips forever 😂

Demo

On the Olenna and Cersei point, I don't think that's Olenna's bad side coming out per se. I just think that both of them see the High Sparrow as a common enemy and he is influencing Tommen to a point where it makes it dangerous. They both see the High Sparrow as an enemy to the institutions they have both built. On the Dany point. I would agree that I don't think Spartan gives Dany enough credit. When you see how hard Jon has had to fight and Stannis dying for his cause etc. Meanwhile you have Dany on the other side of the world, basically conquering everything in her way. It almost seems like things happen to easy for her but she is not like everyone else. She is one of the last Targaryens, doesn't burn lol, AND has 3 dragons. Anyone would follow that if it was right in their face.

Pete Owen

Tears in the next episode are a certainty

Reaction Junkie
>>107764339

I think were at the point where S&P should avoid reading any comments at all. It's unfortunate but even after the mods message people are writing new spoilers.

Munir

Yeah I remember being underwhelmed with that final Dany scene as well. Admittedly, if I was one of the Dothraki there, I probably would've kneeled as well. But as a viewer, it just felt like they did the season 1 finale again minus the dragons...

Shannon Bey

I can't go team Tyrion on that plan (even though my dog's named after him). Seven more years of slavery. Seven more years of slicing off children's genitals to sacrifice to the Red God or to make more Unsullied, seven years of buying babies to kill them, seven years of women and girls raped and sold in the pleasure houses... all to make peace with people who crucified slave children as an invitation to a battle they lost and then started a campaign of terrorism. Take all the children from the master's houses and keep them as wards like Theon was.

Nick Wright

That was 6 whole seasons we waited for a Stark family reunion!

Respect to my girl Osha, all she has ever wanted is to go as far South as South goes to be safe from the White Walkers. She spent the rest of her days protecting the Stark children and got killed, in the North, by someone almost as cruel as the walkers.

One could see two people playing a game of chess with the pieces left on the table. One righteous bold enuch against the fishy, dark brothel owner.

Joel Quinn
>>107775037

Well I think you are right - but his quote is very powerful. You do not make peace with your friends, you make peace with your enemies. So much truth in it, at least in a situation that cannot be resolved by eliminating one party entirely. The masters are aweful people - but they are still people, not something like the Night King.

Joel Quinn
>>107774190

I think the scene is very powerful in a world like that. Just imagine something like that - of course we would be kneeling, to sheer power, magic, divinity, whatever floats your medieval boat. The criticsm is that the climax came without struggle which goes against everything game of thrones stands for. We just saw 5 seasons of people struggleing for just the smallest victory. Not just struggle, even clear failure. Danny just got a win within "seconds" - its just a bit underwhelming in comparison to the epic struggles others had to endure. Just look at the journey Stannis took us on in comparison.

I do agree - just the simple reaction from Spartan, where he referred to the made criticism threw me of a bit. To no fault to him here - I never looked at the comment section until today - but if something similar is going on in the past episodes it does not come at a surprise. Maybe a simple downvote option could be some relief?

go to bed you obsessed weirdo! sorry guys, but if the non existent "spoiler" Ive apparently relayed, which isnt a spoiler in any way shape or form has caused your community to attack, then you just lost a pledge Who would have thought GOT episodes can bring on emotion.....funny thing is, i'll be proved right I fear you have simps in your community

Mat Targaryen

I think this is why people think Season 6 is where the show starts to take a turn for the worst. Dany's taking of the khalasar was too rushed! As are so many things in this and the next seasons that the writers rushed.

Gummybear
>>107774190

She’s been struggling for the last two seasons… this was one small win and a full circle moment since she already previously struggled AND failed to gain the Dothraki’s respect/allegiance. She has grown significantly since then and she showed that. She knew what she had to do to prove herself and she finally had the strength to do it. It wasn’t rushed given all the prior context and her inner knowledge of how things worked within the Dothraki.

Gummybear
>>107768986

Lol I’m obsessed but you’re the one name calling and replying back in paragraphs. Okay 🙄

Munir
>>107774190

The internal consistency is there, but that alone doesn't make it a satisfying plotline.

Meraxes

One of the longest callbacks ever. In season 1 Khalessi told her new Khalasar "Those who would harm you will die screaming." In season 2 when they were in the desert, she sent one of her bloodriders to look for help. He was sent back with his severed head attached to his horse. Jorah said the Khal's did it because they didn't like the idea of a woman leading a Khalasar. In this episode she killed all the Khals with fire.....and they were all screaming.

The mods post rules multiple times throughout the comment sections for shit like this, and then the dipshits like this keep posting it. Unbelievable.

Anthony Brown

Hahaha love the bickering at the end, wouldn't be a S&P video without it. I do somewhat agree with spartan and how dany swung from 0 to 100 real quick with her power, but yeaaa get useto it this is kind of the pace going forward.

Gummybear
>>107774190

So what makes it unsatisfying? Because it looked too reminiscent of a prior scene? That’s called a callback

Ghostcat

That Stark music hits different when it's a happy moment. tears of joy for that reunion, six years they've been seperated

Joel Quinn
>>107774190

For me it was rushed. Because its about different people/ conflict. She has major conflicts going on where some of them if not each could rival the fight for the Iron Throne. Her Mereen plot is fine but the Dothraki are just a story element that needed to happen fast. She just got the loyalty of the most feared force in Essos, even talked about and feared in Westeros.

Gummybear
>>107774190

It’s literally not rushed in the context of all the other seasons but okay. We already saw her struggle with the Dothraki… This was the culmination of that struggle after everything she’s learned. She gained their allegiance using her own inside knowledge of their customs and by playing to her strengths. You kill the kahls, you become kahl. It’s a sraightforward system that they honour. not to mention how big superstition and mysticism was back then watching a women walk out of a burning temple.

Morten Stenseth

For me this part of the Dany story is one of the few fillers in the GOT, myself I remember I lost intrest in this part of the storyline since i all the other sorys was so much more intresting. .

Munir
>>107774190

@Gummybear You just repeated what you said in your other comment. Pacing is not really objective, so that is not going to change the minds of people like Joel and Spartan who felt it was rushed. You make Dany's plan out to be more calculating than I felt it was. Take away the spectacle of it, and all she did was knock over some braziers for her fire immunity (in the books the witch's spell seemed to play a role the first time so I guess the show changed that). I don't think you need knowledge of the Dothraki's customs or whatever to know fire kills them. And once they're dead, there's really only two possibilities: the other Dothraki kill Dany or they serve her. Personally speaking, I was disappointed to see yet another show of power to solve Dany's problem. As Spartan was saying, that doesn't seem like the type of ruler she wants to be so I was hoping for a more creative solution. I know the Dothraki are impossible to reason with, so I couldn't say what that solution is. But I don't need to offer a valid alternative to be underwhelmed. Also the CGI in that scene looked pretty bad, so that took me out of it a bit.

Munir
>>107785345

A lot of people only started hating seasons 5 and 6 when the show ended. I still like these seasons, but I'll admit I like them less and less with each rewatch.

Munir
>>107791579

I think what the one Khal said was supposed to be a callback to Viserys as well. They both said things about letting all the Dothraki men and horses defile her.

Morten Stenseth
>>107785345

I think season 6 is the best one personaly, but I was just never very invested in this Dragon story With Dany :)

Gummybear
>>107774190

@munir I was replying to a different person in that comment. I didn’t make her plan out to be more calculating then it was, those are the facts of what happened lol. The fact that you weren’t able to deduce that yourself from the episode is your issue as a viewer not the shows. That is probably why you found it underwhelming. As previously explained it was much more than her just knocking over fire so I went get into that. As for the rest of your argument, It was necessary in this instance for dany to make a show of power because that is literally the custom of the Dothraki and the only thing they respect… that’s why her prior knowledge of having been among them served her-she knew what she had to do (show strength) and how to do it (kill all the kahls). Not to mention the last season or so dany has been suppressing and questioning her power in order to appease and listen to other's council over herself. She locked up her dragons, gave in to the slavers and her “husband’s” demands, and has largely been a bystander to many things she didn’t agree with. this scene was crucial for her to reclaim her power. it was necessary to her arc to make a showing of that power. it was even prophecized in the first season that her son was going to unite all the khalesars when really it ended up being dany. There is a lot of layers to this scene if you choose to see it

Gummybear
>>107774190

Also why do you even presume to know what kind of ruler dany wants to be when she barely knows herself lol she’s been trying to figure out the right balance for the last few seasons. Dany is kind to the helpless but she has also always been cutthroat to her enemies.

Munir
>>107774190

@Gummybear It looks like you were talking to Joel in both comments, and you were equally redundant. I don't see how who you were talking to changes what you said anyway. And I'm not presuming anything, Dany has said it herself that she wants to be nothing like her father and "break the wheel." Beating her enemies by burning them and dominating through power makes for an epic moment, but goes directly against that. I understand this is a world with complicated situations and characters that make many missteps in their journeys - that's what makes it interesting. If anything, you're the one presuming that I didn't like the scene because I didn't "deduce" something and "choosing" to not see the layers. It was incredibly obvious what Dany was about to do, especially when when she held her hand on the brazier for ten seconds before pushing it. I read and acknowledged your points both times you said them, I'm not saying that you were wrong in any of that. But how I described it was also just "the facts of what happened." A fireproof woman walked into a building made of wood and hay and knocked over the braziers. Kinda sounds like a bad joke when put that way, now that I think of it... I accept that you like the scene, why can't you accept I don't?

James K
>>107775037

Don't forget that the current status of slavery in slavers bay isn't "no more slavery" it is: "slavery indefinitely". Dany has already lost control of those other cities and slavery is already back. Tyrion isn't proposing that they should bring back slavery for 7 years, he is asking for the slavery that is already back in those other cities to be stopped in 7 years. Tyrion knows Dany doesn't have the resources to fight a war and occupy those cities, and eliminating slavery immediately is only going to be possible through conquest and occupation of those cities. Meereen is also under attack by the Sons of the Harpy, and will fall if the Unsullied try to leave the city to wage war. In other words, they are fucked and can't do anything about it. So Tyrion is trying to find another way.

Gummybear
>>107774190

I was replying to you in the first comment and someone else in the other so obviously some things will be reiterated since it centres around the same complaint. Not everyone reads the full comment thread. Any scene can be dumbed down to its basic elements if you remove all the context… Dany’s desire to break the wheel is about not wanting to be a tyrant like her father, that doesn’t mean not using force when needed. Her arc has been about her coming into her own power and learning to wield it which she has always been happy to do, just like anyone else in the show. Anyways, I do accept you don’t like it, I just disagreed with your reasoning hence why we are engaging in a mutual discussion about it. We can agree to disagree

Tay Lawson

The Dothraki follow strength. Danny killed all the leaders and proved she was the strongest. Supernaturally so given that she can't burn. Also it helps move the plot forward quicker instead of us having Danny be bogged down by filler all season.

Munir
>>107774190

@Gummybear You should've saved yourself the time and said to read your previous comment, or typed out the @ since Patreon sucks. Joel and I didn't have the same complaint at all, we both disliked the scene but for different reasons. I never once said the scene was rushed, you just assumed I felt that way because Spartan did. And you went from asking how I could know what Dany wants to yourself stating what she meant and what her arc is? You're being pretty generous to yourself when you say you accepted my opinion and disagreed with my reasoning. I said I didn't like the scene, you assumed my reasoning and said the issue was with me failing to "deduce" her plan. I said I didn't like seeing yet another show of power, and you dismissed that by saying it was necessary. Not much of a mutual discussion in my eyes. I think we should both just move on with our lives...

Rekway

Usually I side with Pudgey but I 200% feel what Spartan is saying about Dany this episode. The "little piece that's missing" that he's referring to is likely the fact that this win didn't feel nearly as "earned" as her past victories. She just outplays everyone with one "i am very badass" mary sue moment, which GRRM was very careful not to plague this character with throughout the story. It's a sign of what happens when complete novices storytellers (Dan and Dave) get ahold of the reigns and can quickly make big moments feel disingenuous. Defeating all of her enemies single-handedly was never where Dany's strength came from, so seeing it out of nowhere in this episode leaves a weird aftertaste.

Rey Jr

I Wonder what they would have said if Cersei agreed to the slavery deal instead of Tyrion

Brit’sBiscuits

Damn these comment sections are getting spicy 😂 Hope the lame internet negativity doesn’t bring you down S&P! It was bound to happen as your channel grows. Great reaction like always!

>>107774190

I didn’t dismiss it I articulated at length about why your statement was misguided lol. And sorry I was mistaken, my first initial comment was not in response to you at all, it was in response to Joel. Hence why it is directly addressing Joel’s concerns lol. You randomly chimed in and said it’s unsatisfying so I asked you why. I didn’t presume anything about your reasoning. My next comment was again not addressed to you but to Joel. once you explained your reasoning I addressed all those points in turn. And Who cares if I reiterate a point to the same person or to different people?? Especially when that person was just reiterating their same point as well without substantively addressing my counterpoints. Also this is my first patreon sub and I am just getting the hang of how commenting works and how confusing it can be because it’s so poorly designed. Now I know to @ ppl in future debates. I didn’t say what kind of ruler Dany wants to be, I said what kind of ruler she has been. You presumed how she wants to rule going forward and I pointed out that’s something she is still figuring out for herself. There is a clear distinction. I’m not even going to address the rest of your comment because there is no point in expending further energy. I have moved on to the next episode. Have a nice day :)

Munir
>>107774190

@Gummybear I'm not reading all that. Why would you even respond two days later? I've long since stopped caring.

Gummybear

Lol your responses have been of similar length, I just utilize paragraphs. And I had better things to do on the weekend than respond. Glad we can both move on

Munir
>>107774190

@Gummybear Yeah my responses were pretty long four days ago. I'm glad you have better things to do on the weekend than argue on Patreon, I guess you save that for the week. I don't see how you can come back to a days old discussion with a fresh essay and think you've moved on. Maybe you're the type who needs to have the last word?

Gabriela Żmuda

I always suspected this letter Jon received wasn't really send by Ramsey but by Littlefinger. Notice how there's "come and see". He said the same words when he was giving Robin a falcon. Maybe it's a coincidence maybe not. But Petyr always manipulated everybody.

Can we just take a second and appreciate how beautiful the Stark theme sounds during Jon and Sansa’s reunion

Ovunc Ozbey

I'm 100% with Spartan: Every Dany win is an easy sweep. That's why her arc has always been the only boring one for me.

Alisha Harper

The quickness of some of the storytelling is definitly a bummer. Just gotta expect the unexpected. Nothing is perfect. I felt the Aria "training" dragged on... But gotta give and take.

True, the Dothraki do value individual strength as a leadership quality above all else, however I have two counter points. One, the Dothraki are fearful/wary of blood magic and dark arts in general (reference this episode when they talk about Dany's baby dying because she was foolish enough to trust a witch). Two, only in the show is she completely resistant to fire, so you could argue that this was a bit of a cop-out in terms of writing and "character development".

Zachary Singa

I think this season is pretty weak, a lot of pacing issues and it’s riddled with plot armour.
