GOT is one of my favorite shows. Watching the last 2 episodes are just brutal shit writing. We waited 2 years to see season 8. The episodes are in a speed run to finish the show. There is also a video of the actors reading the final script during a round table reading. I got more emotional from watching them read it then I did with the last 2 episodes.

Gummybear

How is dany wrong for killing Varys??? He literally committed treason. She warned him the first day she accepted him into her council that if he were to ever betray her she would burn him. She made him promise to come to her first if she was failing the people and instead he conspired behind her back and now she’s the one who should hear him out?? The expectations on dany are illogical. Apparently dany is supposed to pardon murderers, pardon war prisoners, pardon traitors, conquer peacefully and just hand over the iron throne which she has sacrificed everythinggg for. Not to mention she is going through extreme grief right now after losing her two children, Jorah, and missandei as well as thinking her lover betrayed her… have some empathy for her state of mind. Obviously the rest of the episode went off the rails but that was just bad writing.

Lisa

Worst episode of the entire show. Horrendous.

EMG

Yes. It’s funny how Spartan said “I feel for grey worm I understand his pain” when he was attacking the Lannister army after they rang the bell but forget everything Dany sacrificed lol

Jonathanese

Spartan hit the nail on the head. People love brutality when it wears a hero's mask. I mean let's be real, Dany's rise was SIIIICK. But If you want to get away with anything, declare yourself to be on the "good" side. Then you can do no wrong, and the "other" can do no good. That's all of the history of war in a nutshell. That's currently politics in a nutshell. Despite the writing, I think that's what GRRM was going for. It perhaps wasn't foreshadowed in quite the right way.

Anonymous

Varis did betray her by having her food poisoned. Dany wasn’t eating and he told the kitchen staff to keep trying. In fairness: she did tell him a while back “if you ever betray me, i’ll burn you alive”. She asked him to go to her directly, not scheme behind her back. But he’s always been a schemer in the shadows

Gummybear

Ouuf this episode is still a hard watch. The confusion and disbelief was pretty much all of us.

Mark Laniel

it's because it got rushed. The season was fine for 4 episodes and needed another 6 minimum. Also fuck dany and grey worm.

Mark Laniel
>>112802339

because nobody else went through grief. They dont go mad and murder more innocents than anyone ever. She's worse than Cersei.

Sara Quinn

They were clearly rushing this season. As you may know, the writers got offered two more seasons by HBO, but the writers also got a big contract from Marvel and took that instead. So they could have made all of this better over a slower progression and not jam all these deaths in.

Joey Rancour

This is why we hate season 8. Nothing about Dany or Greyworm’s or even Jaime’s character that we’ve been shown makes any of their decisions make sense. They just made Dany snap because she was sad and angry, where she’s been much more level-headed. If they’d drawn it out over a few seasons, it might have been earned. It’s sloppy writing.

kagamiluvr

spartans outro was killing me

Emmy

it hurts all over again when i watch this ridiculous episode

Daniel Siegel

They didn’t execute the build-up to Danerys’ madness sufficiently. But sad to say current events in the world have changed my perception of the decision to make her go mad. We have been reminded during this past year that war carries the potential for madness, especially at the hands of an autocrat.

Daniel Siegel

On a lighter note, my biggest regret is that there’ll be no future opportunities to enjoy Spartan’s hatred of Cirsei.

Mark Levesque

This episode almost killed the franchise. House of the Dragon performed a miracle and managed to revive it. If you just imagine that the show ends with S08E03 then it makes things much better.

Tzeiggi

The great part is, Daenerys' personality is exactly same it has been since atleast season 2.

Anonymous
>>112808218

Not even close, season 2?? At least season 7 which is where she was too self interested and entitled. But Season 3 finale with Mhysa? She couldn’t stand the brutality (looking away, flinching) of the fighting pits either in season 5, she didn’t want any fighting. Locked her dragons up for the sake of protecting others, because of the child that got burned. But here in season 8 she doesn’t care about burning children herself? Also Vulnerability around others that she loves, risking her life to go save Jon even when Tyrion was begging her to not go. So yeah, has she gotten stronger, more stern, more confident, more experienced. Doesn’t mean she’s always been a psycho and have this personality and this way of thinking. The writers butchered her character in ep 5 & 6. SPOILER!! SPOILER!! P & S DONT READ! I really hope a spin-off happens where she gets resurrected, and gets redeemed somehow. Not sure how because of what she has done, but Emilia Clarke and the rest of the cast were sickened by this season. She HATED what happened to her character, I hope writers can come in and do her justice. Drogon is still out there and they hinted at the end that he’s going to where the red priestess are, so maybe there’s a possibility. If they can make a spin-off about Jon snow north of the wall, then can do something with Dany

Tzeiggi
>>112808218

You do remember the leader of a great Meereenese house who Dany killed exactly the same way she did Varys, without any proof or trial? Or when in season 2 she said she well "burn cities to the grounds" when she wasn't granted entry to Qarth?

Nick Parker

The show runners admitted they rushed the end of the show because they wanted to move on to other projects.

rakrakrakrak

There's a video on youtube of all the GoT actors sitting around a table reading the S8 lines. When the actor who plays Varys gets to the part where his character dies, he just angrily tosses the script onto the table and sits back in his chair like "fuck this shit, I'm done" It was a shitty end for one of the best characters in the show.

Scuba Steve
>>112838241

I mean it’s sorta par for the course for a background character and actor to feel their character is more important and deserves more screen time and better story 😂

Matt Burke

This Druckerberger guy sure is upset that the majority of people didn't like the final season of GOT... Heck, the cast didn't even like it.

DrückebergerTV
>>112842229

Im not upset people didnt like it. Everyone can have their own opinion, but at least be honest why you dont like it. Many are not and instead come up with hypocritical and ridicilous criticism that can be applied to any other story, including Thrones early Seasons. Their reasoning is full of lies and bad faith analysis, claiming its objectively bad. Thats all wrong, so i defend it. I feel like a bot at this point, its hard showing people the truth, but here again: https://www.insider.com/game-of-thrones-cast-talking-about-the-series-finale-2019-5

Scuba Steve
>>112842229

I mean to be fair he’s cited his sources numerous times with a link that shows your comment about the cast not liking the end are in context false based upon their full statements. But I guess we do live in a world that if you repeat it enough times the populace believes it’s true

Scuba Steve

Also small side note. It was probably a good thing for GreyWorm and the unsullied that Missandie died… they wanted to travel to Naath together… except one problem Butterflies. Unless you are from Naath, and immune, the butterflies there will kill you. It is known

DrückebergerTV
>>112843886

Well, thats only bookcanon thus far, it was never mentioned in the show. At least up to this point.

Gummybear
>>112842229

We are honest about why we don’t like it. You just refuse to listen to valid criticism and blindly defend an objective decline in writing but hey what can you do

K Smith

For some , there will not be enough room in the comments section for them to tell you how they feel especially about the last three episodes !! It is still amazing from a cinematic standpoint ! Storyline .... You will have to go back to that time period , the show runners Dave & Dan wanted to move on to other projects , they were way beyond GRRM's story and they winged it ! Now it was still an ending but , BUT , most will agree it could have been so so so much better !!! Still an all time great series to many, loved watching your reaction to it. Ken

Matt Burke
>>112842229

This is an article with actors retconning previous statements where they were brutally honest about their opinions on it. It's called PR. They've been in plenty of interviews making fun of it. Some were more vocal, like the actors who play Gendry and GreyWorm. You can literally see the actors' distaste in the live reading of the finale. Why do you need a random business insider pulling quotes to tell you this? Everyone's opinion is valid when it comes to art, no one complaining about not liking the end can be 'wrong' just as you can't be 'right' subjectively.

Brit’sBiscuits

Overall, I don’t have that many complaints about the main plot points of season 8. It’s not what happened that’s the problem, it’s how it happened. The show really needed at least another whole season to flush out the plot and show Danny’s decent into madness and John’s conflict of interest as she goes crazy.

Jay

I highly suggest y’all do a character tier list at the end of the show. Guarantee it would be very entertaining

Yassine El Allati

Danny going insane felt so random to me. And that comes from someone who wasn't really into danny as a character. Yes she was authoritarian from time to time and she surely had some cruel tendencies but they really forced it the past episodes and especially this one. A true shame the last season is so whack.

GoTJake

Yeah, it feels very rushed. Like it should have taken more episodes to make things a little more understandable and buffer out some of the discontinuity. But overall here you are! You made it to the end of the show! One. More. Episode! I’ve enjoyed this journey with you two.

Peter Shim

I wish I could say this is the last time GoT wounds you... but there is a final act of pain before the book is closed. Overall though, loved your reactions to the series, loved seeing your different perspectives and your banter, but hey ya'll have HotD to look forward to! I really enjoyed season 1 so I can't wait to see your reactions to the prime of the Targeryean dynasty!

DrückebergerTV
>>112842229

PR for a show they dont have an contract with anymore. If they truly didnt like it, they would say so. Even Henry Cavill complained about his big Show when it was still on going and left. Daniel radcliffe also said he is not going to be around for Harry Potter remade. In GoT they moved on and were fine with it.

Jhin Virtuoso

As much as this episode has it flaws. I still marvel at it from a CGI, set dressing and music perspective. These people are masters of their craft. Even the actors are amazing in giving the best performance with what they are given. Great reaction guys, I can totally relate to your thoughts, especially spartan perspective about their always being some subtle hints about Danny's way of ruling.

Nigel W.

Yep the writers messed up

Jomel Barroso

The only time “They’ve lost the plot” would make literal sense 😭

Josh

I liked the episodes earlier in the season and the episode after this. This is the only episode I hated and didn't know wtf just happened.

Omar Cornelio

everyone was so shocked about dani snapping but the whole series was always building up to this, the mulitple people that shes lost that betrayed her the multiple people that tried to kill her killed her family her husband her children she had no love in westeros like olena said be a dragon

Iska

When i first watched this episode I had the exact feeling as you guys, and I felt the exact same way you guys did for the other episodes because i really liked it up to this point. Episode 4 and 5 of this season are the 2 episodes that just really fucked it imo, I consider episode 3 the real finale. The story itself I dont actually hate that much, Dany becoming her father for example have been building up in the earlier seasons I just hate how the rushed it in this last season. Its just all so rushed. Like you guys said I didnt feel any emotion that I wanted to feel it was all just conflicted and confusing feelings

Melon

D&D really went, "oh Jon Connington has a cool backstory with the Battle of the Bells traumatizing him, the sound of bells haunting him every night, and there's some cool foreshadowing that he might do some unhinged shit if he were to hear them again... let's assign that to Dany for no reason lol"

Betty Alice

No one got behind this. Not even the actors themselves in real life….

Betty Alice

Exactly!!! No one cried lol. Maybe for the Hound, but that’s it :/ it’s still my favourite show that ever existed, but yeah. Now ya know. House of the dragon is fixing things though lol and the stuff about Dany, is cause a lot of people who read the books refuse to accept this is really her. A lot of people just discredited this whole episode. But yeah, you were never wrong, Spartan :p

Betty Alice

Oh! You brought up a good point about Drogon. I wonder if that’s what they were referencing in House of the Dragon with what Viserys said about the control being an illusion, and how Vhagar attacked Jace. Maybe that’s how they were trying to fix it XD

Austin Kilgore

What’s crazy is D&D (The writers who are responsible for S7 & S8) had the option to make more episodes but instead they chose to do less and just rush the story to a huge detriment of the show because they wanted to get GOT over with. Because they were already hired to to do a StarWars show lined up after they finished GOT, so they completely ruined GOT so they could start StarWars… it’s disgusting. Feels a bit better to know they also ruined their reputation right along side GOT, I’m pretty sure they even lost the StarWars show as a result.

Austin Kilgore

Also if you watch some interviews and stuff with the cast prior to this season, you can see multiple examples where it seems they’re trying to hint/warn fans that D&D screwed it. I think many actors were not only dissatisfied with the direction their own characters went but also the story overall.

Mitch Krueger

I absolutely love this episode and the entire Danny arc. It was just rushed for sure. Its too long to type out but if you ever want this episode justified, or your wanting to talk some Season 8 love. I have arguments for everything, reach out!

Daniel Castro

I'm just glad to say Breaking Bad suffers from no such issues.

Thrashifice
>>112868534

When she first got her dragons she said she would "Burn cities to the ground". This was not out of character at all.

Thrashifice

Varys was killed because he was attempting to poison Danny.

Amy Moquin

I don't mind that Dany lost her mind and destroyed King's Landing because it was foreshadowed when she was in the House of the Undying, when they showed the ash falling in the throne room (which we thought was snow). My problem was with how quick she turned around and lost her mind. Even episode 4, she hadn't lost it. Also, Jon wasn't down with the whole incest relationship. She did warn Varys that she'd burn him alive if he betrayed her, so I get it from her perspective. I wish Cersi suffered more.

Shannon Bey

The issue with Dany isn't whether she's a better or worse ruler than Jon. The issue is that in all of her harsh decisions, she's been doing it often to protect the voiceless, so having her just snap and instead of killing Cersei, which would fit her character, she selectively mows down women and children just doesn't fit her at all. I mean, had Jaime not gotten into a stupid fight with discount Jack Sparrow for no reason, they'd have escaped. That's simply not how anger works. You go to the Red Keep first.

Dup Dupix
>>113078594

"Protect the voiceless". That's exactly why Daenerys arc is perfect. It's a really good take on what we have today with social justice warriors. Nihilists people that hate human nature and can't stand tragedy and oppression. They don't love the people, they hate the oppressors and the world as it is. "A nihilist is a man who judges of the world as it is that it ought not to be, and of the world as it ought to be that it does not exist." She didn't snap. She followed her utopia. She isn't mad. She's just lost in this "breaking the wheel" narrative she tells herself since day 1. The people she killed, the soldiers she ordered to be executed, they were against her. They didn't welcomed her. They didn't opposed Cersei and disposed of her to make room for Daenerys. "She"s good". "She knows whats best for people". So necessarily, anyone who oppose her is bad. Because theres no question of her motive at all. Beware of such people. There are plenty nowdays. Give them the mean to conduct their utopia, they only leave blood and ashes in their trail. Just like the French revolution (which is in my opinion the perfect comparison to understand Daenerys arc). How many people were murdered just because they raised legitimate question ? Because they had some doubt ? Just like communism. Utopia always ends up with death and tragedy. Don't listen to people claiming to save the world. They can't even save themselves more often than not. So assuming to save millions from an "oppressive" world is a pretty bold assertion. Daenerys character was nailed in this regard. And that's why many people hated it : in came unconsciously clashing with their real life opinion and philosophy. "Daenerys will free the world ! How i wished that would come true in our world". Well think again.

Anonymous

she is the daughter of the mad king. we should have all known it would end this way.

Richie Alan

Ignore the other comments that try to justify Danny turning within 120 minutes. It is poor writing that tried to wrap up the story,,, YES GGRM should have finished at least 1 book in 10 years! Look... this was truly awful in so many ways. It is almost a betrayal to the beginning of the show. Danny may go crazy however the outcome left us in such disrepair I found glee within your own reactions. It didn't make sense, it is rushed, and they spent 2 years off to make this shit. Again, I am glued to your reactions as it allows me to relive the show in all its pride, glory and ad execution.

Curtis Mitchell

This is the episode that everyone finally decided that the show runners and writers truely failed themselves. Without the source text they just couldn't keep it together. It's so sad to see it end like this. If you look into the behind the scenes you understand it was phoned in.

Michael Espeland

If you like this season, you're just oblivious to quality. Dany didnt go mad, the writers did. They gave up, rushed through this season, gave up all reason and logic, just to finish the show and move on to the next project. HBO even gave them the rights to make 2-3 more seasons to finish, but D&D said "no, i dont want it".

Michael Neal

You've been the one justifying Danny! Lol. Not us.

big harsher

jamie and euron end up at the same shore at the exact same time lol

Adams

I personally think it was just bad writing for season 7 and 8, ofc the starks finnally being together would give a feel good moment, Danny first interaction with jon too, but the plot of going beyond the wall to bring back a dead to show cercei was just stupid as "the dead can not pass the wall while its standing", gendry being faster than bolt or the plot armour that all main characters, the NK killing a drgon with a spear was just.. whatever it was ok but season 8 deserved much better the battle of winterfell was great but ruined Jon purpose as the prince who was promised and the white walkers were litterally just walking around, the longest long night lasted a few month apparently :P Danny becoming mad in a episode or forgeting about her enemies while travelling back to dragonstone (near kingslanding) is questionable it seem dragons are stupid without a rider, Littlefinger death was forced and he should have seen it coming, Tyrion advices were all bad when he is supposed to be the most clever and knows his sister

Anonymous

The reason people defended Dany in past episodes is because everybody sees her descent into “the mad queen” as being BS. Dany has NEVER shown that she would hurt innocents like this. She was always only brutal to BAD people who deserved. And in Mereen when she discovered things she’d done had indirectly/unintentionally hurt some innocent people, she was always so remorseful. Season 7 and 8 they just wrote her completely out of character. And they made her advisors suddenly advise her TERRIBLY.

Fidel Quintero

For me, episode 5 and 6 are a shit show compared to the rest of the series. They spent 7 and a half seasons developing Danny and making her a strong capable leader that regretted unnecessary deaths, episode 5 betrays all that. The writers had no more original source material to build on and just took the “mad queen” easy route. I loved the series and still recommend it but the last 2 episodes are a shit show. I shared your disbelief and confusion to the actions and Danny only caring about the throne.

Franky E

Pudgey putting Bran’s name out there for the throne 👀

Franky E

Spartan wishing Cersei the most painful obscene death for seasons whilst knowing how she actually died 🫣
