Let us know if you want us to watch The Hobbit Movies (Trilogy) AFTER we finish Lord of The rings of course. We are undecided, but if we're being completely honest we are intrigued and interested in seeing what they are all about. We have heard mixed opinions on the matter, so this poll alone won't be the only way we determine our decision, but we do want to hear from you all!

Comments

Christopher

I’d say they’re worth it just to see Bilbos story.

Jamie Maclean

Yeah they are good movies, some great visuals and the story is really fun!! Martin Freeman is so good, Just nothing can hold up to the original LOTR hahahahaha

Joe

Every hardcore LotR fan I know has told me that the Hobbit movies are skip-worthy, so this is an obvious yes for me

crookedspin

I wish there was a third option: watch a highly rated fan edit that boils the trilogy down to one movie! Imo that's the better way to watch the Hobbit. LOTR is better extended and The Hobbit is better cut down 😂

Darrell Henry

I vote yes but not the extended editions. Unlike LOTR they’re unnecessary and make the movies worse IMO.

Farbod

I enjoy the hobbit films. Yes.

Mando the Rapper

they are kinda bad tbh. go ahead if you want but dont expect the same quality

John Neiberger

They're alright, but not great. I suppose I would watch along with you if you watched them, but they're not nearly as good as LOTR. The acting is great and the characters are enjoyable, and they fill in Bilbo's back story. Just don't expect anything as good as LOTR is.

John Neiberger
>>113895774

I didn't know there was a fan edit that got it down to one movie! That's awesome. Now that I know it exists, I think I'd have to recommend that over watching three full movies. Jackson never should have stretched the story to three movies in the first place.

Steven Enderley

I'd say they are worth a watch. I'm not a heavy LoTR lore person, so I don't understand the whole uproar with people hating these movies. I always felt like the story throughout the trilogy was solid. I'm sorry to those who get triggered by my ignorance for the dislike for The Hobbit lol.

Lychee

Editing LoTR is giving you so much trouble that I honestly don't think it's worthwhile. Unlike the LotR movies which are pretty much universally beloved and critically acclaimed opinions on the Hobbit films as well as Rings of Power are divisive at best.

joseph wells

Up to you. If you want to learn more from middle earth than 100% yes. It’s more of a small scale Children’s story not the same quality as lotr but everyone needs to see it atleast once in there life

Joe
>>113895734

A man hasn’t lied, that is indeed what others have told him lol

RationallySassy

They have good moments and they help add to LOTRs if you watch them again - though they also have issues and the third is… meh - but overall, yeah, can be good to do at least once.

Captainivy1

Definitely watch em. They got issues, some big ones, but it's delusion to me to claim that they're bad films. Should it have been a trilogy? No. But I have an intense love for them nonetheless. Love the tie-ins to LotR and I'd definitely love to see these 2 react to it. Spartan loves his wars, and the third one definitely delivers there.

Apotheosis

They make me fall asleep, I couldn't get through them.

Lindsay Mathieson

Personally, I've seen them and wouldn't rewatch the whole series, but I would watch the edited reaction. The visual are great and some solid acting. I do feel it was let down by the script, and three movies was at least one to many.

Demo

To me another trilogy of just meh movies is not worth it.

aoses31

it is worth it

James Woodford

I pick yes if its just between watching them and not but if there's an interesting alternative I'd probably vote for no.

SnorlaX

Rings of power is much better imo please

Invisigoth99

Definitely do the Hobbit, don’t do Rings of Power

Demo
>>113896836

Meant another trilogy, the “meh” part is only for the hobbit lol

ADHDubz

maybe just the first one lol

Shawn Brink
>>113897071

It is still a million times better than those terrible Hobbit movies. If they watch the Hobbit movies then they will have less understanding of The Hobbit than if they didn't watch anything at all. It was a massive cash grab. Even House Of The Dragons was closer to the source material and that wasn't close at all. Then again they love Marvel movies and anime so they will love them.

Ego Jinpachi

they are not as good as lort, so I voted no, at least not in the near future, cuz there is plenty of better content to react to yet, months later down the line sure

Josh Ashford

A lot of people hated the hobbit movies, and while they're not as good as the lord of the rings, they're still very enjoyable in my opinion. Just don't watch rings of power, absolute waste of time

Josh Ashford
>>113897071

That's hilarious, the hobbit is at least somewhat enjoyable. Rings of power is dreadful

Christian Blanchette

You can do The Hobbit but it's definitely not as good as LOTR trilogy. And as others here are saying, never, ever watch Rings of Power, unless you want to become some ghoulish wraith serving Sauron!

Nenny

Are they as good as the Lord of the Rings? No. But are they at least worth a watch? Yes.

Ghostcat

Of course! Harry Potter is much better though :) please do that soon ❤️

Jake Follain
>>113897071

Shawn, Rings of Power was far more despised than The Hobbit movies, even the theatrical cuts. They don't compare to the original trilogy, but Rings of Power is horrendous. A franchise killer. Plenty of Marvel movies are S tier.

Riolkin

Most of the people that didn't like the Hobbit didn't like it because it is such a departure from the books. I am in that camp, there's a lot about the Hobbit movies that doesn't work in my opinion. Given that you guys are coming in fresh, you might enjoy them a lot but definitely come into the series with a different expectation on the tone of the films. I would rewatch these movies with you guys just to see whether you liked them or not. You'll get a clearer view of Bilbo's stories that he tells as an old man. Regardless of what you decide to do with these films, afterwards you should read the hobbit or listen to the audiobook on your own afterwards. It's not nearly as dense as Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones, but still very important to the worlds of literature and fantasy. My mother used to read it to us in parts all the time at bedtime when I was young.

Sebz

I swear people just put the movies down because they expect them to be master pieces like the Lord of the rings yet no fantasy/adventure movies have lived up to compare to the Lord of the rings. They are still really good and provide good background story of the world prior to the Lord of the rings movies, expectations are just way too high these days.

Murshete

If u offset the movies so one week u do hobbit and the next week u do smth else and so on, tht would be the best of both worlds tbf

David
>>113900898

I didnt expect them to be as good as LOTR I just expected them to be as good as The Hobbit and they failed miserably. Movies are rarely going to be as good as the books but LOTR movies were far closer to the books in quality than The Hobbit. The short animated Hobbit movie I felt was much better than the live action trilogy.

Ben Hall

They’re probably worth it just for Benedict Cumberbatch!

Vali

They’re enjoyable movies. Idk why they get hate. It’s not LOTR but they’re still very entertaining and worth watching!

Vali
>>113897071

The movies are at least watchable. Rings of power is a painful watch. Absolutely dreadful.

SuddenImpulse

I think there are better movies you can put that level of time and effort into personally.

David Richardson

They aren't terrible terrible movies, they're not good, but not terrible. The issue is they massively detract from what a masterpiece the Lord of the Rings is by comparison

Flipnskater

Oh god the hobbit series is AWFUL who the hell actually likes these?? The CGI is trash and so is a lot of the acting. Theres a reason the reviews are in the 60%. Its absolutely shocking to me people actually voted yes for this.

Flipnskater
>>113902693

Shocking people actually like the hobbit lmao unbelievable, it was a massive flop especially after people watched the first one.

John Malone

Ugh. I’ve noticed that Patreon voters in polls are never right lol. This is a bad decision. Waste of 9 hours of filming + countless editing.

David

If you must watch a Hobbit movie for the channel then I would suggest the short animated version from 1977. The live action trilogy is a bad adaptation that I can not bear to sit through again. The animated movie is poorly animated but is much shorter and it might wet your appetite to read the book were as the trilogy might leave you feelling like the book just isn't worth reading, and the book is much better than either the animated or live action trilogy.

Ricky

I suggest taking a break and watching the Hobbit some time after. You need to process the emotion of LOTR and it shouldn't get mingled with the Hobbit. I know this sounds too negative lol, I hope you guys go in with an open mind and enjoy it. But it's not the same as LOTR and doesn't bare the same excitement and depth

Ricky
>>113904664

I'm not sure the animated movie would get a lot of views though. But they should watch it on their spare time

Alex

I Vote watch it but maybe another movie in between

DrückebergerTV

You also heard a lot of negative stuff about second half of thrones, but you still invested time to watch and edit it and you still enjoyed it for the most part regardless of that fact. Hobbit Movies are not nearly as horrible as some people claim they are and enrich this story just more. I think they are great, not as amazing as original LotR Trilogy, but they were never supposed to be that, people just expected them to be more than they ever were to going to be.

Fernando F.

I watched the Hobbit trilogy a few times. The make up and special effects are good.

Beclou

The Hobbit book is a children's story written for JRR Tolkien's son, the Lord of the Rings were written as a trilogy (well sort of 6 books and sort of written as one mammoth book) and much more mature. As such the films have very different tones, and someone made the questionable decision to split the Hobbit into a trilogy which led to a lot of original material being added. There are a few (forced) references to the lord of the rings trilogy and I think the effects have actually aged worse than the lord of the rings films despite being made much later. The first two films are alright, they're leaning into a lot more "silly" humour etc but they still have some good scenes (the scenes with Gollum and Smaug in particular), but I found the third one to be really quite bad. I'll watch your reactions if you decide to do them but I wouldn't be bothered if you didn't do them, you might get a bit of extra lore and backstory but they're overall a bit meh

Jhin Virtuoso

I never saw the lotr Trilogy in theaters, I did however see the hobbit 1 in theaters and it's one of my fondest movie experiences. // However, I will admit the movies have their flaws. I voted no because I think it's too big of a time investment. I would recommend to just watch it of stream. // Or if you do decide to watch it, only watch the first one and see the what the community response is like!

Barrie

I voted yes. They're still Tolkien universe, and they're still very enjoyable to watch for reactions.

Frenzy

Weird that people would say it's not worth the editing effort when The Hobbit reactions generally do pretty well on Youtube. The ones saying The Hobbit would be a terrible watch are likely the same people that would have told you you won't enjoy season 7 of GoT. While not on the same level as LotR, it generally provides everything you like about LotR, just with some unnecessary fluff.

MO
>>113898186

True but worth a watch and worth editing are not the same

Lise

The Hobbit movies are fun, although if it really takes you a long time to edit these ginat movies, I would suggest you to watch The Rings of Power tv show instead if you wanna explore Lord of the Rings universe a bit more. And if you wanna do the Hobbit trilogy, maybe don't do the extended edition.

Stryder Garvey

Definitely watch the hobbit movies they are solid. There are a few problems that mainly hardcore fans have with them but honestly I think you’d look right over them. When it comes to the rings of power show, I think you guys would enjoy it. Especially the visuals as I did but for me, knowing way more of the story in that is not actually how it went down kinda throws it more off course than the hobbit movies takes me out of it a bit.

john
>>113913355

No rings of power is dogshit and fanfiction. Nothing to do with the lord of the rings.

john

The hobbit movies are long to edit. They are fun sometimes but maybe you can watch them your own time? Lets just say the lord of the rings i watch every year. the hobbit i mostly skip.

JonSnow21

Just watch Harry Potter for God’s sake , the hobbit movies are way worse than lotr.

DrückebergerTV
>>113910803

I think the references in Hobbit are not more forced than the Rings of Power references to LotR. I think Hobbit Movies are far superior to the show at least. I think the second was the worst and the first and third are kinda on par.

DrückebergerTV
>>113913355

Rings of Power takes place in LotR universe yet it still kinda feels generic enough not to be part of this universe at all. The show was decent but too seperate from look and tone at least to the original Trilogy. Rings of Power looks like it could be as well part of the witcher or Wheel of Time universe. Hobbit movies are better and look and feel like they are part of the same universe and Story without a doubt.

Rainbow

The Hobbit is one of the six fiction books in the world that has sold over 100 million copies, and prob one of the most famous stories of all time. (Yes, it’s not as good as lotr but it’s still worth a watch). Although I do echo the others in the chat and say HPotter is also a great thing to read/watch.

Anthony Brown

The hobbit is great, the movies should have never been spread out into 3 movies but still they are far more enjoyable than most fantasy crap today. I wouldnt watch the extended versions for these either, the extended scenes in the hobbit are pretty much all over the top cgi scenes... so you dont really want to see those. XD And don't even consider watching the Rings of Power as its nothing to do with lotr and completely non-cannon cash grab from amazon.

Buğrahan Bilaloğlu

They arent AS good as LotR, but that doesn't mean they are shit. I still very much enjoy doing LotR marathons starting with hobbit

Josh Ashford
>>113897611

Of the hobbit? I've seen the extended editions as well, still not as good. I enjoy the movies still though

Cjay_92

The Hobbit is not LOTR quality but that being said to me they are still enjoyable films and Ik you guys have been wanting more of Gandalf

Jamiefishing7

Love The Hobbit so a yes from me

Trokdrew

They are more lighthearted and targeted towards kids/families, i would watch them once and id prolly watch the reaction but its not as exciting as some other movies

Tron

The Hobbit movies are trash. Total waste of time.

Danny Flores

The hobbit trilogy is stretched too far from the source material and have some plot points that take points from them, they do not hold a candle to the original trilogy but then again very few fantasy movies do. That said they're quite entertaining and if you like the lore and want to know a bit more about frodo, gandalf and the rest they're worth the watch.

Max Martin

The first Hobbit movie is actually good. The second one is a big disappointment. The third is probably one of the most boring film i ever watched in my life. That's a hard no for me

Nigel W.

They’re not as good as LOTR but still a decent watch plus it expands on the universe abit more if you are wanting more after LOTR.

Farmer John

Yeah, i suppose, I won't watch the reaction to them, but it will probably be enjoyable for you to watch, it has its moments. I just hope we get the 3rd LOTR reaction before my membership expires. Personally nothing else here for me, except lotr. Have fun both of you and have fun everyone else

Anthony Brown

The hobbit movies arent as good yea, but they are stilll excellent and the bits of the white council are worth watching it alone imo. Love seeing galadriels power in action!

M

there are so many other good movies to watch before the hobbit trilogy

sincethelasttime

I would say no, they are not good and not reaction friendly

MO

Movie suggestion: Shawshank Redemption

Alina

they of course do not live up to the greatness of the original trilogy, but are still very fun

JonSnow21
>>113914286

Yes but it makes no sense to watch such an average to bad trilogy that will take them like 2 months to do and there’s still no guarantee that they will watch Harry Potter next , or did they say they will?

SuddenImpulse

While I don't think the movies are terrible, I think they are mediocre. You could watch 3-4 (standalone or a mix of standalone and series movies) MUCH higher quality movies, and that will net you similar or better viewership, in the same amount of time it will take you to watch and, in particular, get through the big editing/copyright nightmare with these....Many other movies would likely take you less time and effort to edit/deal with copyright. So its a big no from me. Too much total time and effort for such mediocre films.

Eshwar Tangirala
>>113966676

Yea nah would not be worth patreon money to watch them react to the Hobbit with the other all time great movies out there. I would say mediocre is a compliment, its pretty trash

Murshete

If u guys do interlace other movies, r u able to make a poll for what movies coz my first choice will always be Harry Potter but just so u dont have another rumble in the comments

Lise
>>113913355

To each their own, but I find the reaction to Rings of Power online to be waaay overblown, while people around me have enjoyed it as well. And it's definitely superior in production quality to the Witcher and Wheel of Time.

Tylor Stafford

For those saying that Rings of Power are trash, your opinion is trash. Regardless of what source it’s from, it’s still right down their alley and they’d love it. If they’re gonna watch all of the movies they might as well watch the TV series as well and get the full experience.

Farmer John
>>113994902

Sure they can watch anything they want, it's just not worth making reactions to them, most people agree it's trash.

Tylor Stafford
>>113994902

Most people agree they’re trash? Last time I checked the poll was 64% in favor of watching them. Delusion is a sickness a lot of people have apparently. The only ones I see saying they’re trash are 34% minority. Your name is Farmer John so I’m not surprised lol

Luke
>>113994902

You confused? this is a poll on the hobbit not rings of power. The hobbit is average but at least fun. Rings of power is just awful and yes that is the opinion of most people just look at its 38% on rotten tomatoes.

Corey
>>113994902

Rings of power has some of the worst dialogue I have ever seen in a show. Straight to tv sci-fi channel trash is better than it.

Sean K.

I would rather see other movies, didn't like the Hobbit trilogy that much.

John Neiberger
>>113994902

Rings of Power was awful. I have no desire whatsoever to watch the first season ever again, and I'm certainly not going to watch the second season. But this is a poll about The Hobbit, not RoP.

John Neiberger
>>113994902

It truly is bad. Like, surprisingly bad considering how much money they put into it. I think the put all the money into effects and not the writing.

qas ra
>>113909599

I think they may be the first time im ever agreeing with you lol

Saint
>>113994902

I went into Rings of Power with a lot of optimism. There were a few amazon shows I really liked, they clearly put the production budget behind it, and I wasn't bothered by any of the drama that circled it pre-release. With that said, I couldn't make it past the 3rd episode. It's shows like Rings of Power that really emphasize the lack of talent in the industry right now. They had it all, but all the money in the world couldn't pay enough to get a good script. They put it next to the work of a real author and the juxtaposition was ruinous.

SuddenImpulse
>>113994902

They already decided a good while ago they have zero interest in watching Rings of Power, so debating whether they should watch it or not is rather pointless. As an aside, I also disagree that they would love it. I'm a bit confused why you are so certain its right up their alley. It also, at least in my personal opinion, is a complete insult to Tolkiens works, it butchers the lore and story. I went into it optimistic and hoping it would be good, because I want more high quality fantasy productions, but I was extremely disappointed by it personally, and yes, I did watch the entire season. Also, there is no need to be so aggressive and hostile. If you can't respect other peoples difference in opinion, you definitely shouldn't expect that in return either. You can make your argument without attacking others like this. It does not engender people to hear out your argument or points your making, it just creates a hostile, toxic environment where people are not likely to give you an ear and hear you out and consider your points. While not always the case, I've generally found that people that resort to such tactics don't really have a solid argument that can stand on its own merit, so they feel the need to throw jabs and insults in. Also, as someone else stated, this poll is not about Rings of Power. Its about The Hobbit trilogy.

MrMoleHole
>>113934972

They said Lotr return of the king reaction will come out some time this week.

Ismail Chettfour

Honestly the hobbit movies are fine for a first watch, but honestly, they suck compared to the lord of the rings trilogy. It’s a lot of editing for a pretty mediocre movie

Eshwar Tangirala
>>113994902

Bro I think the fact that your comment got no likes proves most people think Rings of Power is trash because it is insanely trash 😀😀

Emma

Yes, you should absolutely watch the hobbit movies. While they do not quite live up to the excellence movies that is the original trilogy, they still provide great entertainment value, more lore about the Tolkien universe that builds on the original trilogy, and epic fantasy moments.

brabra

i would rather see harry potter as long as one of u havnt seen it

Glen Roberts

While the Lord of the Rings books were based on 3 large novels, The Hobbit was only one much smaller book aimed more towards children. So the issue is that most of the dialogue does not come from Tolkien and this is very noticeable. 80% of the movie is filler added in to make it into 3 movies. It can still be a fun watch, just keep your expectations low.

Angela

I say go ahead and watch them! There are some golden moments and you get to see more of the world. You may really enjoy them.

Broccoli

The Hobbit movies are hot garbage, but you should watch them anyway. Just be aware that they are bad enough that they actually manage to devalue the original films, which is quite impressive when you think about it, really.

Riolkin
>>113994902

Exactly, thank you Sudden. I was very hopeful about RoP because I lost a bet on whether HotD was going to be good (hooked by episode 2 and 20 bucks poorer), but as a die hard fan of Tolkien's work I had major problems right from the start.

Scuba Steve

As an avid Tolkien/LOTR fan absolutely watch this. The hobbit and LOTR are two entirely different stories for two entirely different audiences. It’s my understanding it was always Tolkiens intention to go back and update the giant holes in the story of the hobbit. (Which the movie does with tolkiens own writings from the Return of the king appendices) Particularly regarding Gandalfs whereabouts and the necromancer. But the hobbit is a children’s story. And thus should be viewed from that lense. I will say this also. Jackson had this movie dumped on his plate and essentially given the choice of wing it now or it never gets made. There was huge fights over the films rights and Guillermo Del Toro was supposed to direct backed out. So he basically had like 6 months to salvage 3 films simultaneously while using a completely new technology for advanced frame rate technology. The basically made these movies on the fly. Where they literally planted LOTR over years. And they absolutely nailed and crushed practically every single major/pivotal scene from the book to perfection. They aren’t perfect movies and it’s not a better set than the original trilogy but it’s still good. The source material was never as good as LOTR in the first place.

Scuba Steve
>>114044571

I respectfully challenge anyone to explain to me where or how you make this in anything but 3 films because I don’t see it happening any other way. The filler you speak of respectfully comes from giant GAPS in the source material from Tolkien himself. Much of which was later added to his appendices of ROTK. Which was then added to the film. But seriously The Battle of Five Armies was a few paragraphs long in the book and the “climax” of the story. How else do you translate to film? The opening scene at BagEnd was 45 minutes long for just following the actual book. There’s no way you could make that into 1 film without leaving out tons of information from a story that was already missing tons of information. The film would need to be 5 hours or more long. And then the issue becomes where to split it. There’s only one logical slot, but it’s not in the middle of the story. It’s in the first 1/3 of the story 😂 My point being they were given an impossible task to live up to superior source material, and the greatest trilogy of all time. This isn’t a bad trilogy. It just isn’t LOTR god level trilogy.

Glen Roberts
>>114044571

You have a good point. Peter Jackson actually wanted to do it in 2 movies but the studio insisted on 3. With 2 movies there would be room to expand the parts you mentioned but the extra filler would not have been needed.
