For spartan, there actually are 2 great recent games based on LOTR. Shadow or Mordor and shadow of war. Both pretty fucking great!

Count yourself lucky for having issues with the extended editions. As an avid Tolkien fan who owns multiple editions of every Tolkien book, I can confidently say that the extended editions of both The Desolation of Smaug and The Battle of the Five Armies are both significantly worse films and do more to harm the story than there theatrical counterparts. You do well to not watch them. They do the complete opposite that the LOTR extended editions do.

3rd movie is insane can’t wait for all the climaxes to happen. y’all are in for a treat! So glad y’all decided to watch this 😌 I’m so excited for y’all to see Harry Potter aka my childhood and the rest of Korra. Also y’all should watch sword art online it’s much better than everything in that last anime pole

Conrad Coughlin

anyone remember the gamecube/ps2 LOTR games those were the best hahaha

Lou Dryka

Have they ever said what they watch these movies and tv shows on? Hopefully not a laptop or monitor

Radek Nohejl

I dont agree. I love Hobbit all in extended edition. And third movie is in extended edition much better.

Pablo

Hbo max is actually shit yeah. Not the content, the content is probably the best out there, but the app is absolute trash nothing works there

Hans Engelen

I would have to disagree here too. I get where you are coming from but disagree with the conclusion you draw. If only for the fact that much (not all but enough) of the extra stuff you are probably referring to has basis in the books and lore. And no matter how you feel on that there is no denying that books and movies as different mediums will always have their differences. There are things you can do in books that do not translate into movies easily and vice versa. This is a dilemma you will see with every movie adaptation of a book no matter what the book is. I do thoroughly believe though that these movies (the hobbit series) keep the spirit of the books far better than was the case in the LotR movies.

The idea of Dragons being greedy and hoarding treasure basically comes from old Anglo Saxon/Germanic tales like Beowulf, which Tolkien was inspired by.

DominaZeta

For the record: “The Desolation of Smaug” refers to the desolation **caused** by Smaug to the land and people around the Lonely Mountain (Erebor), not the destruction of the dragon itself.

I think they would also have fun with the Two Towers and Return of the King games. They're simple and linear games that are good for streaming, even if it's not a story based game

Jonah Bertorelli

Speak for yourself. Many people enjoy the extended versions. And as someone who only owns the extended's I can't watch along without renting 3 decade old movies that I already own a version of.

Jonah Bertorelli

Hell ya. I had 2 towers on gamecube and it was the shit!!!! basically spanned all three movies worth of content in the levels. Could play as all the main characters. And had actual cut scenes from the movies! next level for it's time for SURE.

Conrad Coughlin

🙌🏽🙌🏽🙌🏽 I wish they’d remaster them for current systems those games SLAPPED

Queen Alicent's Feet

Umm have you read the hobbit? The movies are literally a complete 180° flip from the books. And I’m personally okay without because the book is a complete children’s book. It’s a child’s fairytale with songs every other page and fun rhymes and poems. You really think the movies kept the spirit of the book?? Not at all. The movies are grim and dark and create a much grimmer story that builds into middle earth lore that didn’t even exist when the boom was written. Literally none of the extended scenes have basis from the book. There is no lore to the hobbit. It’s a child’s story. There was no azog, 80% of the movies story and plot it made up, which is fine but to say it keeps the spirit of the book and upholds it’s “lore” is just ignorant and a complete lie.

Yassine El Allati

I did like those games but you gotta admit they are kiiiiinda outdated. I remember playing them on my ps2 a looong time ago. Atleast shadow of war is quite a recent game.

Timminson

Smaug is the best thing about these movies. God damn Benedict Cumberbatch is too good.

Nigel W.

“ could you imagine a game in this world” brother you never heard of the shadow of modor/war games? Great games based in this world but if it’s lord of the rings you want in particular then return of the king on ps2 still slaps 🔥
