thank you for dropping this earlier than usual!! literally perfect timing, i just sat down and was looking for something to watch

Mando the Rapper

lol Pudgey is starting to hate walter real quick. question though, why is Skylar checking all the boxes "smart, shes not wrong" but Walt doing it being a dickhead to Jesse? obviously he was the culprit so theres that angle, but given the situation, what else is he supposed to do after that talk with Hank?

Lyn Hurst

This episode had so many things going on. Skyler and Walt telling that "fiction" about his gambling was hysterical. She even tears up at Hank and Maries. I know she is an actor but she was really an "actor" in this scene as far as the spinning they did for Hank and Marie. Makes me sad that Junior thinks his dad is a stud for being a gambler. Walt and Hank going over Gale's notes was intense.

Justin

Bro needs a Heisenberg shirt one time

Justin

I love how the camera zooms in on Jesse when Walt is making him relive his Gale trauma & you can see Walt towering down on him in his eye's reflection before he closes his eyes. Great detail. Bravo Vince

Kate

Love this episode. I definitely agree with Spartan that Walt's "terribly, terribly ashamed" moment is partly because he's distracted. Maybe also feeling a bit of guilt after seeing Gale. But I don't think there's any genuine feeling of shame at Walt Jr.'s reaction. From the very beginning, Walt has craved his son's admiration, not just as a person but as a man. Jr. couldn't have said anything more perfect ("stud") to validate Walt as he wants to be seen and as he sees himself. But because of the lie, Walt isn't able to accept Jr.'s affirmation in that moment as he might genuinely want to, so he reverts to Skyler's phoney script.

JonSnow21

“Why hasn’t Walt been there for Hank”, I guess as usual Pudgey forgets bc she’s blaming walt for everything that he’s paying for hank’s medical bills after hank has treated Walt like a nerd and loser for years and why does she get mad when Walt tricks hank with the poem like does she think Walt should just openly tell hank that he’s a meth dealer !?!? And also why does she keep saying that jesse is in this state bc of Walter , Jesse killed Gale to save Walter’s life as Walter did the same thing for jesse the night before and when he’s talking to jesse bluntly about the killing, he has no choice really bc Jesse is in a bad place and drugged so he has to get answers somehow , I swear Pudgey is becoming one of those reactors who’s biased against Walter in every situation. No hate , I love both of yall as reactors but this is true.

JonSnow21

It’s getting kinda annoying when she’s keeps being so biased against him

HDN

Way too biased towards Jesse and it's purely emotional, nothing rational there. I get it, I adore him too but he's literally the only reason they are in this mess. First of all, assuming that Jesse would be safe if they didn't get in this big game is completely false. In fact, he'd be either locked up or dead like any other junkie who doesn't calculate their steps in such a dirty environment. It's not like Walt groomed an innocent college kid into the meth industry. Then they were safe and good until Jesse decided to act all gangsta and face those 2 guys and since then everything crumbled and all he does ever since is whining that the rules aren't fair. They are drug dealers, the rules are never fair. Yes he killed Gale to protect Walt but again, Walt wouldn't need protection if he didn't run to rescue Jesse from the stupid situation he put himself in. Another reminder that if Walt stayed out of Jesse's life, he'd have found a way to get himself killed or imprisoned. Walt has sacrificed his position as Gus's #1 employee and his whole credibility and respect just to keep Jesse safe. He has done way more to Jesse than the other way around. He cannot live on Jesse's mood especially in this line of work. They can't afford to submit to someone's feelings if there is actual danger of getting caught and there's a chance of fixing it. Walt is the only reason Jesse is alive since he always vetoes any solution that involves harming Jesse and let's be honest, Walt is technically the one with "monetary value" and Jesse just isn't. Killing Jesse has always been and still is a solution to everything but Walt has never accepted that anyone even considers something like that. Walt isn't doing anything wrong but the emotional one always seems somehow more innocent.

Hari Randhawa

If you think Walt doesn't feel shame at Walt Jr's reaction, then you fail to understand Walt's character completely.

Hari Randhawa

Think you two missed that when Walt is suggesting a differently phrased apology in the script, he is actually apologizing to Skylar as well.

Hari Randhawa

Pudgey's complete bias against Walt is really starting to impact the quality of these reactions. This show is intentionally meant to show nuance and the inner conflicts that characters feel when they make decisions and that includes WALT as well. When you start watching the show with a complete tunnel vision of 'Jesse is a victim because he is struggling emotionally' and 'Walt is the cause of all bad things in the show even if they are the indirect result of other things happening in between' then I'm afraid your analysis starts to lose credibility.

PastaDon

Free Jesse 2023 🤣.. got your back Pudgey 😁

Kate

The fact that he uses "terribly, terribly" is the tell that it's nowhere near genuine. The irony of a Walt stan telling anyone else they fail to understand Walt’s character. 😂

Jackhammer

I would say that Jesse is responsible for Gale's death. He created a situation where Gus had to find a new chemist because of a loss of trust. Walt was right, he's about the only person who seems professional. And this is the drug business. Besides, it's clear that Walt cares about Jesse. Only Heisenberg won't run after him with tissues and wipe his tears)

Zeek

Credibility would be lost if she changed how she genuinely felt to align with people who have already watched the show and are biased to Walt.

Rey Jr

Nah she is right and wrong. She is right about Walt being a terrible person(and I love the character Walt). But she is wrong about Jesse being just a good guy that doesn’t need blame. Yes he has a good part in him but he is still to blame for some of his decisions.

AlrightThere

Man this season and the last season are just incredible and I can't wait to watch you guys react to it. This episode really starts the ball rolling

Rey Jr

I am a bit surprised about the heat Pudgey gets. Other than not also putting blame on Jesse she is pretty much spot on. For example when she said: As long if it is for family everything is justified for Walt. Or when she said Walt used Hanks emotion to talk to each other to get more information about the case. So she is mostly right about Walt. She only needs to hold Jesse also accountable for his actions. But I get why it’s harder for her to do that when she sees him in this state. Atleast he shows remorse and is constantly down because of it

Milorad

During season 1-2, when they loved Walt, everyone was telling them how they shouldn't cheer for him because he's just an evil monster. Now when they start to turn against Walt, everyone is saying the opposite...

Pablo

no he is not

Oathkeeper_13

The reason Walt knows so much about Geology is because Chemistry and Geology go hand in hand.

HDN

@Zeek I don't think anyone wants her to change her decision if she's not 100% convinced. I personally would like them to remember that in this show no one is good. It's not good vs bad they are all "evil" in some way, and the determining factor is how sharp is someone in his game vs someone who's just an "evil" moron. Otherwise she'll hate the show and not appreciate the smart games that are being played (or will be played in the future). FYI evil is a strong word that's why i've put it in "" but you get what i mean.

HDN

I don't agree about him ever showing remorse. There's showing remorse, and there's never actually manning up and bearing the consequences of his personal actions. Attacking Gus's men is an example. The death of Jane, him luring Andrea into addiction again, him stealing meth, he always does the thing and chickens out when the consequences are due. I can't look at his response to Gale's murder without taking his other behaviours in other situations into consideration. This is not remorse, it's the need of shaking off any blame for any mistake he's made. He's basically a snowflake (sorry Jesse love you xoxo).

JonSnow21

No she’s not right, at this point in time , Walt is a very complex character who cares about his family and jesse and she gives him the blame for everything and no blame goes too jesse in her eyes .

JonSnow21

What are you taking about? No one here is biased to Walt , People are just annoyed that Pudgey never sees Walt’s side of any situation and treats jesse like a victim constantly when that’s far from the truth considering they’re in this mess bc of Jesse and he’s one of my fav characters but im not gonna pretend like he’s innocent when he’s not .

Hari Randhawa

I had already edited my comment, I did mean bias against Walt. So I agree with your sentiments completely

Hari Randhawa

@Zeek, the audience change their views on characters all the time. Our views might change as characters change. You’re not losing credibility for that. But if you continuously watch the show with a biased lens against certain characters, you will fail to understand certain actions and motivations by those characters and it makes analysis that much more shallow. There have already been a few instances where Spartan has had to check her views on Walt by providing some context to his actions and he is no Walt idoliser either so you can already see that a balanced approach gets you further in picking up the nuances.

Hari Randhawa

Many are just asking she takes a less bias lens against Walt. She is failing to understand why Walt is acting in certain ways or is making certain decisions. For example expecting him to molly cuddle Jesse when he has literally turned his house into a drug slum and Walt is running against time to save both of them from Gus.

Artanis

She will be alright. This amount of heat is like a daily occurrence for Spartan, or used to be anyways. They are tough cookies.

Artanis

Yeah there was no apology there. Walt makes it super clear via his own dialogue he feels he has nothing to apologize for right before that scene. Walts behavior in that moment as well as Skylers reaction makes it clear that was not the case. I think some folks must have forgotten what he said just before and aren't the best at reading facial social cues.

Artanis

Yep. What is chemistry all about? Chemicals. Elements. What they are, what they do, under what conditions do they do certain things, why, and how they interact together. Whats is the definition of a mineral? "A naturally occurring inorganic element or compound having an orderly internal structure and characteristic chemical composition, crystal form, and physical properties." Its definitely on purpose.

JonSnow21

Im sorry how the hell does this guy have likes on his comment , the only reason he has likes is because he’s a Walt hater bc nothing Pudgey has said is spot on at all , from what I have seen in the last 5 episodes, all she does is blame Walt constantly in every situation even if it’s not his fault and side with jesse no matter what so the only reason is bc they’re also walt haters but I love both characters but I also hold jesse accountable unlike alot of people in this community.

Hari Randhawa

He clearly was unapologetic until Skylar made the b**** mum comment and then there is an apparent change in his facial expression and tone which resembles a feeling of remorse. So perhaps others have an inability to read facial cues.

Artanis

I mean Vince Gilligan himself talks about this scene on the Breaking Bad Insider podcast. Go listen to it. I think Vince knows what is going on with his characters in his show. Moira Walley-Beckett is also there and she wrote that specific episode....so...take it up with the show creator and the writer of the episode. I am just reiterating what they said.

Kate

I haven't heard that podcast, but yeah: the obvious point of that moment is that Skyler (and the viewer) temporarily thinks Walt is apologizing, but then realizes he isn't.

Milorad

SuddenImplse, I hate this argument of "the creator of the show said this and this...". It's really cheap and doesn't prove anything, the thing creator meant to do doesn't always correspond to what people perceive to be true about a scene, to me and many other people Walt WAS apologizing to Skyler in that scene (not for providing for his family, but for putting Slyler through all this, it was a necessary evil in his mind), and Brian Cranston certainly acted it that way. I'm definitely not bad at reading social cues, and I don't care what the creator said, he did it wrong then, or Cranston acted differently than what Vince wanted.

Artanis

lol okay I would argue that suggesting how someone perceives something topples what the core people who invented the characters, the scene, and the episode, and the script intended is a lot more "cheap" because one is far more subjective than the other and has way more shaky ground for its basic premise. I'd even dare to say it rests on a logical fallacy. People can perceive all kinds of things from a scene, that doesn't make it true. That is why it makes sense that if there is a disagreement you go to the people that actually designed it. Its akin to telling an author you know better than them about their own story and characters in a book. Most people would find that rather ludicrous. Why did he apologize using the exact lines from the script? Why did he ask if that was good (referring to the lines) right after? Why did Skylar go from a relieved and surprised face when she thought he was apologizing to a completely different, terse and disappointed face right after realizing he was talking about the lines? Why did he defend his actions right before that to her when she brought it up? This man is all about pride and ego and excuses and rationalizations for his behavior. He shows this exact kind of behavior in situations like these time and time again. I think we will just have to agree to disagree. I also didn't say just Vince, I said the person who wrote the actual episode too. I think there are NUMEROUS clues within that scene that it was not a genuine apology, I absolutely think Brian Cranston acted it that way as do vast majority of people I have seen discuss this episode over the years, but we clearly disagree on that. This is honestly the first time I've seen people with this interpretation of this scene in all the years since the show came out. That said, I really didn't mean any offense by the social cues comment, I probably should have left that out, so my apologies on that one. But its not a big deal, people aren't always going to agree on these things and things can be open to interpretation. Its not some particularly crucial scene anyways, so not really worth having a whole extended debate over.

Milorad

I agree it's not worth arguing, i could go point by point but it would be a long comment. I will only say that stories are always about perception, just like poetry. There no "what Walter really meant", because there's no Walter in real life and we can't ask him and put him on a lie detector. Authors are real but they created this show that is an entity outside of them. Trust me there are many instances of consumers finishing a story better and more believable than the author himself. What the author says is irrelevant, especially if they comment on something years after the whole show/book is finished. It's not rocket science to understand this. So, I believe that was an apology from Walt, a sloppy one, but still an apology, some part of him did feel sorry for Skyler, he just doesn't loose sleep over it, because it's Walt we are talking about here :)

Milorad

Ok so i just watched the podcast you mentioned, for this episode, and no one ever says that he did or didn't genuinely apologise, they don't even talk about that part, they talk about "terribly terribly sorry" part for like 2 seconds, and I think they don't even remember the scene correctly lol. So you spread false information there, unless it's some other podcast i didn't find?

Rey Jr

Sure buddy. I am just a Walt hater and nothing more(funny considering that I think Walt is one of the best written characters). Could you please point out what I said is wrong ? I literally wrote that Jesse needs to be hold more accountable. Also the things about Walt are right. In my first comments I used these two examples: As long if it is for family everything is justified for Walt. Or when she said Walt used Hanks emotion to talk to each other to get more information about the case. Why is that not spot on😂These points are literally the obvious ones and Pudgey got them right

AdrianF

Walt's a shallow cowardly wanker.

Hari Randhawa

Vince has said on many occasions that viewers are free to interpret the characters in their own way and there isn’t an exact correct position. To me the scene clearly shows a change in his outlook once Skylar points out her victimhood in all of this. He goes from talking defensively with a sharp edge to a quick moment of silent reflection followed by responding to her slowly with a softer tone. The point being he realises that he is putting her through a shit time and whilst he might not be apologetic overall for what he has done, he is indeed sorry for making her collateral. It’s why he is more comfortable with putting it down on paper because it is finally a real emotion on that script.

Hekz

why do u care so much :DD its just a show. Calm down there buddy

Zorak

@Milorad I strongly agree with your "the creator of the show said this and this..." argument. I don't think I agree myself about Walt's apology being genuine, but regardless you are so right about how invoking what a creator said in an interview is a weak argument. Point well made.

Zorak

@Hari Randhawa I agree. But if you think this is bad, you should see how Pudgey is during their Game of Thrones reaction. Her complaining about Walt is extremely mild compared to her incessant and constant whining about any character she chooses to not like in GOT.

Zane Platt

- Walt got Jessie bashed by Tuco and then kidnapped because he ignored Jessie warnings - Walt got Jessie's friend killed because he got greedy and wanted more territory - Walt pushed Jessie into going to Spooges house and intimidating them (which lead to Jessie witnessing a man getting his head crushed) - Jessie also isn't responsible for what happened to Jane, he told her to get out. She made her own personal choice. Walt then killed her and let Jessie take it all on himself -Walt also contributed to the deaths of almost 200 people because he allowed Jane to die - Jessie never got Andrea back lntro drugs, he learned about her kid and stopped it there. He then gave her enough money to move to a nicer neighborhood Jessie's big issue is Walt... Waltsaves Jessie from shit that Walt causes 90% of the time lmao It is telling that in a day or two with Mike, Jessie is already better off than almost year with Walt
