Better Than Friday - 288 (Patreon)

Good Friday evening from Florida my friends - the heat has abruptly returned with a vengeance. God almighty.

Finished Freud's 'Civilization and its Discontents' today - Hell of a book. Review coming soon.

Wishing you a great weekend, thanks very much for supporting the show.

1. Book I picked up recently: Dispatches by Michael Herr (Paid Link)

This has come highly recommended by multiple viewers.

A mixture of reports back from the Vietnam War crossed with fiction.

Herr co-wrote the screenplay for Kubrick's 'Full Metal Jacket' and worked on the narration for Coppola's 'Apocalypse Now'.

2. The Death of Count Orlok in Eggers's 'Nosferatu' (SPOILER)

Admittedly, overall, I prefer Herzog's 'Nosferatu'. But this death scene was marvelous.

Well done indeed. The best 'Death of Dracula' I've seen so far.

3. Shortparis - Страшно

Found these guys a few years ago. There is a strong political commentary going on here that I do not yet understand.

That reveal is hysterical though.

4. Getdown Services - Dog Dribble

Tight, driving, "fuck off" minimalist rock from a couple of goofy Bristol guys. Impressive energy.

For fans of The Fat White Family, Viagra Boys, and LCD Soundsystem.

5. The Martyr Made Podcast

Listening to this at the moment. Highly informative. Heavy stuff.

Very tragically, my wife’s cousin recently had three barns burn down. They lost nearly all the animals.

My wife was sent this haunting, epic photo.
