Good evening everyone, hope all is well in your corner of the world.

Recently posted a review of the existential horror novella "The Witnesses Are Gone" by the British Horror/Weird Fiction author Joel Lane.

Wishing you a nice weekend, thanks a bunch for your continued support.

1. Book I Need to Read: Voices of the Fallen Heroes: And Other Stories by Yukio Mishima (Paid Link)

Apparently, as we learn from the description, Mishima once had to deal with a fan who broke into his house requesting that he "tell the truth".

I'll buy the book just to read about that.

2. Janus Words

Today I looked up the definition of the word "Nonplussed", which I felt I've almost certainly looked up before, perhaps more than once. I've found it difficult to remember its exact definition, and I've discovered why.

"Nonplussed" is a word whose two definitions contradict each other. It can mean both 'bewildered', and 'unfazed'.

These are known as Contronyms, also called Janus words, as in the two-faced Roman God Janus, God of (among other things) Duality.

How cool.

3. Misþyrming - Hælið

A cavernous, gloomy, epic black metal instrumental.

Not into a lot of the newer BM stuff but this had a striking atmosphere.

Reminds me of Emperor's 'The Wanderer'.

4. Weird Fiction Explained by Media Death Cult

A nice exploration of the genre.

5. Ai 2027 Video from the Youtube channel Species

A well-constructed video companion to the piece I posted a while back.

I'm not convinced it'll play out like this, but the premise is astounding.

I was just in Oxford MS over the weekend for a writer’s conference and picked up a copy of the new Mishima collection! Admittedly I’ll take anything with the man’s name on it without hesitation, but the blurbs etc are very intriguing. Janus words…what a great term. I always thought “nonplussed” had one meaning and that everyone was always missing it. Some kind of Schrödinger’s word. I’ll have to look into this and see what other Janus words exist. I can’t think of any at the moment.

That Misþyrming album is excellent!
