Favorite cities in America?

G J Sykes

Any plans in the future to review any more books by Graham Greene?

Brandon Benavidez

Hey man, long time fan since the Borges video, thanks for getting me into reading again. Are there any books that you return to for the holidays? If not, what are some cool “thanksgiving/christmas” books you would recommend?

Brandon Cook

Favourite places you've traveled to? Any recommendations in US and abroad? (Canadian here)

Since your drawn to transgressive fiction are you drawn to many transgressive writers who work in genre spaces such as fantasy and sci fi outside King Lovecraft and Herbert. If you want a good place to start I'd recommend Micheal Morecock and Gene Wolf.

Cliff - as a fellow passionate coffee disciple (and thanks again for gifting me a bag of your brew), I'm curious as to what was the inspiration for you to begin roasting your own beans. And - if I may - Is COFFEE Better Than Food? Keep bringing the goods man - thanks so much.

Is there any book that you parted with through the lottery jar that you wish you still had in your collection?

Jordan Clements

Since I started watching the channel in your LA days, you've lived in a lot of wildly different places in the US (something I'm slightly jealous of here in the UK). Did you always plan to have a more nomadic lifestyle before settling in Florida?

Sam Ebdon

If you do, what books do you turn to during very difficult periods in life?

Igor Martinovic

Hey Cliff, thank you for making such great videos for all these years, you've truly introduced me to some of my favorite books of all time. As for my question, how would you define a great short story? For me personally it is when an author gives us a glimpse into a world so rich and complex that it could be an entire novel. Looking forward towards your thoughts.

Nicoly M. Parapinski

Is there a quote or excerpt from a book that creeped you out the most - or that caused such great discomfort that it became imprinted into you in some sort of way?

Zach Roberts

are there any tropes you feel permanently drawn to in books, and are able to tolerate even when they are not presented in good style?

Azure Pentest

Have you ever thought about reading all the books of a particular author ? What are the best contemporary authors in your opinion?

Nathaniel M

Have you ever experienced a medical event that made you reckon with your own mortality in a way you’d never done before? Doesn’t have to be life-threatening necessarily. On a more literary note: what do you think is a trait that unites great writers regardless of style? Hemingway is famous for his concision, whereas writers like Poe or McCarthy (I’m thinking Blood Meridian here) or Melville etc are renowned and reviled for their long-windedness. Some people have an aesthetic preference for one or the other; some, myself included, love either in the appropriate context. What do you reckon exists within texts of such varying styles that nonetheless evokes such awe and enjoyment? Big question, but I find myself wondering how a book like The Road can be just as effective, if not more so, than the works of someone with an affinity for detail like Poe or Melville

Cliff, are you a fast or a slow reader? I guess it depends on the stuff, but how would you evaluate your speed in general. I have to admit, I am pretty slow myself, but love to savour a good story, its atmosphere, and the pictures it creates in my head. So what are your mph on the Reader's Road?

Hey man been really enjoying this Q&A series, I’m kind of a lurker on here for the most part so this has been a cool way engage more directly from time to time. Do you ever find that you look for yourself in the characters you read about? And if so have there been any characters that you were especially shocked, for better or worse, to find yourself relating to? Or if not do you try and instead remain detached from characters you read about in order to get a more objective understanding of who they are?
