Hidy y'all, how are ya?Throwing a couple of worthwhile Ellroy-related clips in here to finish off my chapter with The Black Dahlia, because they're just too good. With this latest dystopian-tech article, let us remember that Ernst Jünger's "The Glass Bees" was quite prescient. "Search and destroy rescue"...yeah uh-huh.
Meanwhile, for the first time, I'm reading and enjoying Mark Twain's "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" (Paid Link). Darker than I anticipated. Hysterical, at times. Very impressive.
Have a lovely weekend everyone, and thank you so much for your continued support.
A bizarre title recently sent to me by Wakefield Press: SchrummSchrumm or the Sunday Quicksands Excursion by Fernand Combet (Paid Link)Disclaimer: Wakefield Press sends me free books for reviewThe story of a man who travels to "the city of Misunderstanding". God only knows what I'm in store for with this one. The synopsis reminds me of Kafka's "The Trial" and Virgilio Piñera's "Rene's Flesh".
George Hodel and The Black Dahlia
Something I didn't mention in my review - Hodel was a strong contender for the real culprit, with an insane, disturbing story behind him. The connection/potential homage to the surrealist Man Ray is crazy.
Another video on the subject here.
This gal is tearin it up. Strong echoes of Fahey. Here's a cool track by her entitled "Jack Parsons Blues".
Feel. Real. Good. Dun dun dun dun dun dun dun. Garage punk from Memphis.
When James Ellroy was so brash he made Dave Chappelle laugh and run off stage
You have to wonder if Chappelle's brilliant skit for the blind black white supremacist originated from this moment.
From the trip to the canyon a ways back.
