Happy New Year to you all my friends. I ain't optimistic - But!... There remain many good books to be read...I'll be posting my Favorites of 2026 video soon. Grateful to you all for your continued support of the show, thank you so much.

Onward into whatever the strange year holds...

Rare, strange, dark book I'd love to get ahold of: The Ship by Hans Henny Jahnn (Paid Link)

A novel about a ship crew going insane by an obscure German author and Organ Builder. For those interested, I've seen a print-on-demand edition going for a cheaper price on Amazon UK.

Malaria!Cool footage of the 80s German band Malaria! from the excellent film "B-Movie: Lust and Sound in West Berlin" directed by Mark Reeder. Found via @factbrand on instagram.

"The God Who Created The Devil" - An examination of Abraxas by the channel Pantheon Mythology

After 15 years, I think I've accidentally discovered the symbolism behind the rooster in Story of the Eye.

Gilles Deleuze Set to Twin Peaks music

Well that's a stroke of genius. And that first comment is great.

Oval - Textuel (Mixed)

This popped up on my spotify radio this week - sounds really fresh.

Fan Boy story:I was fortunate to catch Eyehategod once again recently in Gainesville, where I finally picked up a copy of Mike IV Williams's rare book of vitriolic poetry "Cancer As a Social Activity" (Paid Link) - He generously signed it.

On the drunken walk back, we passed a funeral home with a historical hearse on display.

Thanks Cliff. I recently attended Tradecraft, the John le Carré exhibition at Oxford’s Bodleian Library which features various original notes, notebooks etc from the late spy novel author. Fascinating stuff. Which reminds me, I must pick up a copy of A Perfect Spy, reportedly Le Carre's most autobiographical of his novels.

JAHNN. Hopefully the much larger portion, Fluß ohne Ufer, gets a translation in our lifetime.

Have a great new year, Cliff. Thanks for the Malaria footage. As I spent my wasted youth in West-Berlin, I can also recommend "Herr Lehmann" by Sven Regener. Mr. Lehmann is an iconic personification of THE typical West Berlin inhabitant shortly before the fall of the wall. However, don't know if that hilarious book already got translated into English. It definitely is one of the best descriptions of the WB atmosphere in the 80ies. And what about the photo of you: man, you do look devilish. What did you have for drinking? Next time call me, I'll come along and order the same stuff as you guys do!👍
