I read it for the first time last year at age 35 and part of me (the old part) came away thinking it was boring. I recognized the kinetic passages as being something amazing but other than that I didn't take much from it... I thought... There's another part of me I discovered through this book. That's the part of me that can't get it out of my head. The part that gets excited thinking of reading it again or seeing you reviewing the book. It's a part of me that I want to feed but I am clueless as to how to do that. I haven't read any of his other books so maybe I'll start there... after I read On the Road again.

The Dharma Bums should definitely be your next stop with Kerouac. It seems to distill a certain aspect of On The Road's particular spirit that I think most readers of Kerouac tend to yearn for but never fully realize in his other works.
