Great review, Cliff! It's been more than 10 years since I've read Siddhartha. Your review has given me the urge to pick it off my shelf and re-read its beauty. Thank you!

Siddhartha was the first work of "higher literature" I ever read when I was young, I've re-read it many times since. It really propelled me into the world of philosophy and literature alike (though somehow it was my first viewing of Fight Club which inspired me to pick it up... seems odd to reflect on now). Demian and Steppenwolf are great as well. I think Journey to the East was interesting, but I would need to re-read that one to form an honest opinion. I love that you brought up Zarathustra, as I've always thought of Hesse's Siddhartha as kindred to some extent (for some obvious reasons, I suppose).

Also, thanks for pointing out that doc; Mystic Fire has done some good work.
