Have you read Mishima's book on "Hagakure"? That one along with "Sun and Steel," "Patriotism," and "Runaway Horses" is probably among the best elaborations Mishima provided on the chosen mode of his death. As a reader long ago weaned on books like "Fight Club" and Camus' "The Rebel" (borrowed from my HS library, actually), I've always found the themes surrounding his death intriguing, and those particular works of his had best satisfied my appetite for insight into the greater theme of "man in revolt."

I forgot to ask: Do you have the hardcover of "Sun and Steel"? I had been meaning to pick it up since giving away my paperback (found in my local bookstore almost fifteen years back, which is fairly miraculous in midwest town of less than 20k at the time) but only finally did some time after watching your review (price had probably gone up $20 since last I checked before then). Suffice to say that the hardcover of this book was way more impressive than I could have imagined. The thing is about 7.5"x9.75" and looks like this: https://goo.gl/photos/SYTwFzm1PiRtJz9h6
