Hello everyone, how are you? Reading anything good?

Thanks as always for the support and have a fantastic weekend.

1. Book in the Pipeline - Act of Passion by Georges Simenon

This was a recommendation from a very good friend and patron.

Georges Simenon is a Belgian author who wrote this while living in Bradenton Beach Florida, not far from where I used to live in St. Petersburg.

Apparently it's...

a dark psychological account of a man overcome by buried passions, who becomes a murderer.

In a letter to André Gide, Simenon wrote, "It took me twelve months to write Act of Passion. I really do not know if it was worth the trouble. I wrote it in order to rid myself of my ghosts, not to commit the same deed carried out by my protagonist.

For forty years Charles Alavoine has sleepwalked through his life. Growing up as a good boy in the grip of a domineering mother, he trains as a doctor, marries, opens a medical practice in a quiet country town, and settles into an existence of impeccable bourgeois conformity. And yet at unguarded moments this model family man is haunted by a sense of emptiness and futility. Then, one night, laden with Christmas presents, he meets Martine. It is time for the sleeper to awake.

2. How Realtime Translation Works

I found this very intriguing. I would love to be a translator/interpreter.

The note-taking process is incredible.

6:38 definitely made me laugh.

3 The crazy intro to the film adaptation of Mishima's play Black Lizard

I've got a review of Star by Yukio Mishima coming out next.

His play 'Black Lizard' was published the same year - 1961.

The film was made in 1962.

This Music...The Lighting...Amazing.

4 Screenwriting Masterclass from Paul Schrader

I haven't watched all of this but I'm very interested in what the screenwriter who wrote 'Taxi Driver' has to say on the craft...

5 A beautiful cover of 'Changes' by Black Sabbath by Charles Bradley

At one time Charles Bradley was a James Brown impersonator.

The man's voice is unreal.

This was sent to me by my friend/patron Erik - Very difficult to watch this without tears.

He also does a stellar cover of Nirvana's Stay Away.

I had some bookmarks made

Hi Cliff. Cool Bookmark! I hope you will make it available to your patrons soon. Like the haircut. You would be awesome on Peaky Blinders as Arthur Shelby's long lost, nicer American twin brother. 😉. Have a great weekend✌💙

#1 sounds a bit like Dennis Rader, aka BTK Killer.

The Sabbath cover is so killer, better than the original IMHO. The piano part always sounded a little goofy to me.

Was supposed to see Charles Bradley live here in Dublin in 2016 but he cancelled due to the illness that eventually killed him. Still a bit upset about it.

I think there should be a move to get Charles Bradleys "Why is it so hard" used for the call waiting music on the Viagra helpline...
