Hi ya'll, wishing you a tolerable lockdown.
All is well here, though a journey to Texas to finish the move is in store for next week.
What that will look like with the continued travel restrictions is anybody's guess.
Wish us luck.
Here's some stuff to keep you occupied.
Hope you enjoy, and thanks for staying on board.
1. A Portuguese Author Recently Recommended to me.
I've never read Antonio Lobo Antunes, a Portuguese author from Lisbon who was nominated for the Nobel Prize in Literature, as well as being a Doctor.
The title of this book in Portuguese is Os Cús de Judas, which translates to 'Asses of Judas'.
Here's an article on the book in The Paris Review.
In the tradition of William Faulkner and Gabriel García Márquez, one of the twentieth century’s most original literary voices offers "kaleidoscopic visions of a modern Portugal scarred by its Fascist past and its bloody colonial wars in Africa" (Paris Review). Hailed as a masterpiece of world literature, The Land at the End of the World―in an acclaimed translation by Margaret Jull Costa―recounts the anguished tale of a Portuguese medic haunted by memories of war. Like the Ancient Mariner who will tell his tale to anyone who listens, the narrator’s evening unfolds like a fever dream that is both tragic and haunting. The result is one of the great war novels of the modern age.
2. Makes me laugh as much as cringe. Good way to start the day.
Ralph Fiennes dancing to The Rolling Stones.
'A Bigger Splash' was really just created for this scene.
The film is loosely based on La Piscine which I haven't seen yet.
3 How to Use Writing to Sharpen Your Thinking - Tim Ferriss
I found this useful, and I like the recommendation of writing longhand.
Now would be the time to develop solid writing habits.
I'm going to give this a shot.
It seems pretty versatile, and something you could travel with.
5. This is one of my favorite songs.
The Fear and Loathing review brought up this classic...Hits hard during this period of isolation.
