I'm 22 (right at that perfect age you mention) and I'm about halfway through it. I agree with the idea that we meed more life-affirming literature in the face of our reality (it has a similar triumphant feeling to it that One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest did for me, though I do prefer that book). Anyways, I'm typically attracted to realism and that real grounded shit, but sometimes, it can get really depressing. Anyways, keep up the good work! You've helped this young writer find great atypical literature that continues to shape how I perceive things. Corrupting the youth absolutely!

I've been aware of this book for a while now. After seeing this I went ahead and pre-ordered this edition to give it a try. Happy new year!

Looking forward to reading this. I recently read A Confederacy Of Dunces by John Kennedy Toole. One of the funniest books I've ever read. I think it falls in the absurdist genre & if you haven't read it I would highly recommend it. I think it contains more of the realism you missed out on in The Hearing Trumpet... Happy New Year...

Looks like just my cup of tea. Ordered! Also, thanks for the review for Coetzee's "Disgrace". I'm reading that one right now.

I ordered a few weeks ago and just arrived. I like these shorter books to squeeze between larger ones. I'll give it a shot after I read something very "real."
