It's been several years, but I remember getting Proust vibes from it.

Very interesting that you made an analogy between To the Lighthouse and the films of Béla Tarr! So far the only Tarr film I've seen is Werckmeister Harmonies, and I can see a rationale for the comparison: I was never quite sure where Werckmeister Harmonies was "going"—and it took forever to get there, or rather, to get nowhere! And so far To the Lighthouse is the only Woolf I've read. It was fascinating and boring at the same time: I don't demand endless action from novels, but when the only action that I can remember (from a single reading at least a decade ago) is that Mrs. Ramsay darned a single sock, there's not a lot to hold my interest. (Proust, by contrast, is endlessly fascinating and engaging.) I also have Orlando on the shelf, but haven't gotten to it yet. Like you, I have no interest in reading To the Lighthouse again. The Picture of Dorian Gray is very different. I read it decades ago, and unfortunately happened to read it in Seattle in the early days of spring during the week or so when cherry trees are blooming and their scent fills the air. I felt that I was nearly drowning from the combined perfumes of the redolent blossoms and Wilde's flowery prose!
