This reminds me of Szilveszter Matuska who got off on train crashes. He successfully derailed two trains, and was convicted for attempting to derail two more. He literally said that he enjoyed watching people die and scream in his trial, and he reported that he achieved orgasm during at least one of the crashes. Fun enough, everyone still claims his motives are unclear....but....no, he said what meant. Anyway, I just ordered a copy of this book thanks to this recommendation.

Read it back in secondary school, along with many other of his books.

This doesn’t seem like a book I care to read, except that I haven’t really seen you this excited about a book in a while. I told myself if I won the coffee lottery I’d definitely read it... I’m still tempted though.

Read this and Juliette by Sade back to back and I’m still trying to unfuck my head

Some of these events you narrated here, I just couldn't help but be reminded emphatically of Gravity's Rainbow. Then I noticed that both were published the same year, 1973.

Read Crash a couple of weeks ago. Jesus that was intense and I thought Under the skin was hardcore.

Thanks Cliff, good to know after all this time there are other guys out there who read this wild tale. I first came upon the book (at the age of 16), then saw the film. The book left me with a profound uneasiness for years to come, whereas the movie was a shock, but an expected one. And I could somehow digest the film. Don‘t get me wrong, Cronenberg is one of the most unusual and fascinating filmmakers of our times. But being confronted with this Ballard stuff, even Cronenberg was reaching his limits. But it honours him to have tried. By the way, thanks for sharing the biographical pieces on JGB, that sheds some light on this mysterious author. More of these ravaging reviews, Cliff!
