Good evening everyone, hope you're all doing well

Currently I'm in Tennessee walking around and exploring the territory.

Very interesting vibe around here, Southern Hospitality is a real thing.

Had no idea the area was a rain forest like the PNW, everything is so green.

Finishing up Kafka's The Trial and then onto some other stuff for the Halloween season...

1. Hopefully reading soon...Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury

Also has a film adaptation which is so-so but this scene is fantastic.

One of Ray Bradbury’s best-known and most popular novels, Something Wicked This Way Comes, now featuring a new introduction and material about its longstanding influence on culture and genre. For those who still dream and remember, for those yet to experience the hypnotic power of its dark poetry, step inside. The show is about to begin. Cooger & Dark’s Pandemonium Shadow Show has come to Green Town, Illinois, to destroy every life touched by its strange and sinister mystery. The carnival rolls in sometime after midnight, ushering in Halloween a week early. A calliope’s shrill siren song beckons to all with a seductive promise of dreams and youth regained. Two boys will discover the secret of its smoke, mazes, and mirrors; two friends who will soon know all too well the heavy cost of wishes…and the stuff of nightmares.Few novels have endured in the heart and memory as has Ray Bradbury’s unparalleled literary masterpiece Something Wicked This Way Comes. Scary and suspenseful, it is a timeless classic in the American canon.

2. Today I learned about the blues subgenre called Hill Country blues from my Chattanooga barber who used to drive Tugboats

Funny thing was, he had never heard of Mississippi Fred McDowell when I'd asked him, and as it so happens McDowell was part of the very subgenre he was telling me about haha

McDowell's my favorite. I'm also a fan of R.L. Burnside and Junior Kimbrough, who were inspired by this style.

So much to learn in music history...

3. The Mishima-Influenced Male Pornstar who Kamikazied his plane into a Yakuza Boss' house.

Title really says it all.

4. The Violent Femmes

Almost chillingly exceptional.

5. The Trial directed by Orson Welles, starring Anthony Perkins (of Psycho fame)

Oh yeah.

Definitely going to be watching this before the review.

Huh, I was reminded of the Violent Femmes just the other day.

The ending of the Welles film was an odd choice, but its mood, atmosphere and sets are fantastic. There was one filmed in the 90s that, IIRC, was more faithful to the novel, but wasn't as good.

The only Bradbury that I've read so far is The Illustrated Man, which I recommend at every opportunity because I really liked it. Looking forward to the review, if you end up doing it!

I spent a year in Chattanooga, I miss the Cumberland, the North Shore, Quiet walks around the city, the parks....such a beautiful city. I also lived in Junior Kimbrough's hometown of Holly Springs, Mississippi for a year...the towns not changed much from its past besides some fast food chains and a walmart off the highway, but downtown is so surreal, some really cool graveyards, old antebellum houses, crazy small town stories of murder and oddball characters like the guy who ran Graceland 2. Check it out if you ever head down to the south east again.
