Good evening everyone! Just shot a review for the bleakest damn thing I've ever read, Cormac McCarthy's 'The Road', which frankly seems to be a disturbingly appropriate read for this era, no?
I definitely don't think it's gonna get that bad. But, it's pretty good for making you appreciate 'food and shoes' as he puts it.
Have a damn good weekend, thanks for all your help.
1. A killer looking book I picked up at an estate sale - Pagan Spain by Richard Wright
Looks like an excellent example of 'travel writing', but seems to transcend that genre too.
------------------------------------A master chronicler of the African-American experience, Richard Wright brilliantly expanded his literary horizons with Pagan Spain, originally published in 1957. An amalgam of expert travel reportage, dramatic monologue, and arresting sociological critique, Pagan Spain serves as a pointed and still-relevant commentary on the grave human dangers of oppression and governmental corruption.
The Spain Richard Wright visited in the mid-twentieth century was not the romantic locale of song and story, but a place of tragic beauty and dangerous contradictions. The portrait he offers in Pagan Spain is a blistering, powerful, yet scrupulously honest depiction of a land and people in turmoil, caught in the strangling dual grip of cruel dictatorship and what Wright saw as an undercurrent of primitive faith.
2. The Book I Want More Than Any Other
You can literally have the rest. All of them.
That is an autographed first edition copy of Story of the Eye addressed to Luis Buñuel.
I can't even believe in its existstence...much less that it's for sale.
Plays out like a crime drama. Incredible.
I like this guy's channel, very informative.
4. I've had this Janacek composition stuck in my head for years. Beautiful performance
Just immaculate.
5. The uncompromising work of William Blake
Can't wait till the next time I return to Blake.
Kinda drowning in work but I love it.
