Good evening everyone, hope this finds you very well, and you have a great weekend.

I've got a review of Agustina Bazterrica's 'Tender is the Flesh' coming soon, while working my way slowly through Dostoyevsky's "Crime and Punishment", and taking a break with Michel Houellebecq's "Interventions 2020" from time to time.

Thanks as always for your kind support.

1. A collection of novels I've been meaning to read for years - Lawrence Durrell's "The Alexandria Quartet"

Just came across a cool edition of the first in this quartet, Justine. Need to read soon.

------------------------

Lawrence Durrell was one of the best-selling, most celebrated English novelists of the late twentieth century. The Alexandria Quartet is unquestionably his most admired work, at heart a sensuous and brilliant evocation of wartime Alexandria. In this world of corrupt glamour, L. G. Darley attempts to reconcile himself to the end of his affair with the dark, passionate Justine Hosnani - setting alight a beguiling exploration of sexual and political intrigue that the author himself described as 'an investigation of modern love'.

2. Rest in Peace Julee Cruise

So sad to hear of her passing.

Love this song. Love her music.

3. Desert Bookstore

Apparently, this bookstore, which is still thriving, it's great to hear, was created as a memorial to Desert Solitaire author Edward Abbey. I've gotta check out Moab.

4. The Most Nutritious Tree in the World

Woah. Totally going to try and plant this in Florida. If this part is true...That's insane.

5. The Passenger by Siouxsie and the Banshees

One of the best low-budget music videos, great cover of the Iggy Pop Classic.

Rest in peace Ricky Gardiner who played guitar on the original.

Throwback to a trailer in Joshua Tree circa 2016...?

Better days for travel.

I've read The Alexandria Quartet twice. Really enjoyed it. Also very sad about Julee Cruies.

man that bookstore looks great. another one for the unending list of places I might stop if I ever make it back to the States. would love to see a review of Desert Solitaire if you're ever leaning that way. that book was the entry point to Abbey for me and cemented him as a favourite author of mine. love to see it get coverage.

I gotta get to that bookstore, too. I came to Edward Abbey through his novel The Fool's Progress, which is fantastic. It didn't take long to find Desert Solitaire after that. I'd love to see reviews of both!
