Good evening everyone, excuse the late post, got back home late last night after a very long day of travel.
Had a stunning visit to Savannah Georgia (never been) and fell in love with the city. Truly a marvel to behold. The most architecturally beautiful city in America by far.
1. Tales of Tangier by Mohamed Choukri
I had my eye on this one and came across it while visiting Malaprops Bookstore in Asheville NC. A nice bookstore.
The only thing I've read by Choukri was a small book about his experience with Jean Genet when he visited Tangier.
This collection is composed of many stories concerning down-and-out citizens of Tangier.
I was listening to this all through the hills of Sevier County Tennessee.
Kimbrough's sound is something entirely his own.
Dark, driving, transfixing blues. Great road music.
3. RIP Mark Stewart of The Pop Group
The Pop Group made a big impression on me. Y is one of my favorite albums.
Nothing sounds like that, even to this day.
4. "Shoot him again...His soul is still dancing."
Cage gives a fine homage to Harvey Keitel in this Herzog-directed oddity.
Pertaining to item #2, Iggy Pop on the subject of Junior Kimbrough.
He mentions his paternal achievements. Turns out the updated number is 36.
That's not a family, that's a small nation.
Child of God territory, outside of Sevierville.
