Good morning everyone, just woke up to Covid part deaux.
That's what I get for going outside in the world. Ha!
It was worth it. Symptoms are mild.
Hope you are feeling better than I wherever you may be, meanwhile for the weekend...
1. Just bought - The Western Lands by William S. Burroughs
A book by Williams S. Burroughs inspired by The Egyptian Book of the Dead.
Immediately sold.
Penguin Modern Classics edition here too.
The first half of this film was the best comedy I've seen since I don't know when.
It's as if Charlie Kaufman and Michel Gondry made a satire about modern America as an homage to Kafka. It's barely satire. This is close to what many American cities look like.
Joaquin Phoenix nails it, naturally.
Ari Aster is one of the only good directors left. Watching it I heard the faint but undeniable heartbeat from the corpse of cinema.
You gotta love Aster's beaming face witnessing his public approval from Martin Scorsese.
I'm happy this guy is out there making films.
Bravo.
Phenomenal track off one of the Jeffrey Lee Pierce Sessions Project 'We Are Only Riders', featuring musicians creating songs based off unreleased material and fragments written by the late Pierce of The Gun Club. Brilliant idea.
Another version featuring Nick Cave right here.
4. Sinister
"Sinister" actually means "Left" in Latin, as it was thought that left-handed people were Evil. Ain't that something?

The best thing James Franco ever did was Harmony Korine's Spring Breakers.
Not a good film. But an unfortunately memorable character.
The very enjoyable taplist at Burial Beer Co. in Asheville NC, a loveable spot.
The entire soundtrack at the bar was stoner and thrash metal.
'Cannibalistic Methodologies' was delicious.
