This is a great series, Cliff. Phenomenal reviews . . . Some of your best work in my opinion. I had no idea about Ellis' prior narrations and you're right: the "soundtrack" is almost wall-to-wall. Your attention to that has really enhanced my reading. "Thr Shards" is very long for Ellis but you're also correct in observing the benefits of his screenwriting over the past 15-20 years (or however long). The pace is extremely cinematic. His insights into culture and his experimentation with the form elevates this way beyond a genre piece but this is one of the books I'd give to a kid like I was, hooked on Stephen King until Bolano. This could be a gateway to proper literature for a lot of people. Can't wait to sit down for Part II once I'm done. (At this pace in a few days). Thanks as always, man. The channel rocks because it always keeps my reading fresh, exhausting certain directions I'm taking in my own reading.
