Good morning everyone, how goes?

Wishing you a great weekend, thanks for your continued support and hope you enjoy the items below...

1. Poetry I plan on reviewing soon - Collected Poems of Philip Larkin (Paid Link)

Odd, stripped-down poetry. Slightly vulgar, humorous, yet profound.

Unlike any other I've read.

2. Interview with Mircea Cǎrtǎrescu

"The concept of reality itself is made by our dreams."

Kept a journal with his dreams since he was 17, that's wild.

Looking forward to reading Solenoid (paid Link).

3. No Free Will - Robert Sapolsky (...?)

Fascinating idea to consider.

Not convinced, what do you think?

4. Etymology of Pumpernickel

It translates in German to something like "The Devil's Flatulence".

You learn something new every day.

5. A Taste of Honey by Lionel Hampton

Great cover of the original by Bobby Scott.

My other favorite is the one by Paul Desmond.

The Beatles also had their own take.

And finally here's an upbeat version by Herb Alpert & The Tijuana Brass.

Solenoid posthaste! Please and thank you!

Oh I adore Robert Sapolsky. He is an amazing neuroscientist and a public speaker, his lectures on YouTube are phenomenal. There’s a debate on free will with him and Daniel Dennet on YouTube, you should check it out!

Free will (or the absence of it) is a recurring theme in Wallace's short story collection "Oblivion". Highly recommended. There's probably no denying that humans act as impulsively and instinctively as animals most of the time, only difference is that we convince ourselves that we choose to do so. Looking forward to your opinion on Larkin!
