Get into a big shouting match. Flip off a bagel. Lay on your stomach like a water bed.

This section has a big boss fight that's by far the most complicated fight I've made so far, let me know how it goes. It's meant to be fairly difficult but it's always hard to guess exactly how much harder it'll be for people who didn't designate the stats.

Hello! It is me, here to review the new content! I think the fight is fairly balanced. I beat it on my second or third try once I got a good strategy down. Despite Amber's desire to go complete CC, I would much rather take out the support wizards first. My general focus went Yellow, Purple, Shadow, Red, everyone else. Sky just kinda... didn't do anything? Really, she just stood there and dipped once she took a tiny bit of damage. I can't see her sticking her neck out for the church, so I assume that's intended so she can go grab the bandits. Also she smacked Amber with an illusion again. If I was in this universe, I'd get the cure frame 1 for instant Sky immunity. The two biggest problems I encountered were Janet's squishiness and the player's lack of control over Cat. Even when Root is active, Pink can nearly 1-shot Janet with body slam, and only the halved accuracy from Amber kept her from dying. Even with that, she went down twice towards the end. Thank god I stocked up on revival and healing items. As for Cat, it's not so much choosing what attacks to have her do that's the problem, but the fact that she can't use items. Janet wears through her KCal fast when she's healing every turn, and only being able to use Amber in order to revive gets rough when Cat's damage is only in the double digits. But overall, this was a good update! I liked the puzzle, the story, and the combat, as well as getting to see chonky Amber. Always a good time. Very excited to see everyone's reactions when she returns to the campus. Another classic Zenthicks W.

Thoughts on the combat. I love how all the enemies are unique. Also Sky Cat is frustratingly useless here. This was fine vs Dad when the fight was relatively easy and her damage contributed. In this case she's dealing less than a tenth of the damage Amber does. She has bioluminescence which she used to blind Amber and Janet in the first fight. She's also been stuffed recently so deserves a slight power bump. Failing that, being able to use items would be an enormous help (I'll cover items later). Teal can randomly dominate the combat with fascinating cheese. Because of his speed and the way fascinate works, he can take Amber or Janet out of the fight for two turns- it cancels her current action and misses a turn. With bad RNG, this can cause a loss on its own. Red is similar but mercifully uses fanfic a lot less. A lot of the fight does appear to be RNG. As far as I can tell, everyone is balanced by either waiting or using very weak attacks. However, this is individually decided. If all the enemies decide to use their best moves at once, the party dies.

Seems like Cat could use a power boost. Non-controlled teammates can't have conditions added to their actions like enemies can so I can't, say, tell her "only use a healing item if the target is actually at low HP" which makes it difficult to make her Do Things that are Useful. RNG occasionally giving the player the middle finger is unfortunately one of those things you can't completely avoid in this sort of game.

Sky does nothing and then dips because she can't be bothered. Cat's damage being too low I can see. I'll see about boosting her output. Janet being squishy seems to be an overall problem with her stats... she has like 2/3 the HP Amber does. I should give her a new armor item or boost the HP stat on the one she's got.

I found myself just resetting the fight if a CC spell hits early or if there's a bad combo of either Janet or Amber getting downed / CCed a bunch, which makes the initial lengthy cutscene a tad annoying. There's very much a snowball effect where the fight bad luck early can end the fight, since Janet is fragile yet critical to keeping the party alive, and the vast majority of damage comes from Amber. Feels like there's no slack in the fight, and since Cat can't use items it makes recovering from bad RNG difficult. The lack of slack also makes it difficult to play about with Amber's new abilities, feels like you have to constantly attack (to reduce the number of enemies you're fighting) to avoid getting overwhelmed.

Teddypimm

Yeah, I can't beat this, I'm giving up on the boss fight for now. At most I get two down and Sky flees, but after that a combo of CC, accumulating debuffs, or just big damage gets me. I've been carrying my save over from previous versions so maybe there's something there but I've tried like 20 times and 2 down + Sky fleeing is as far as I've gotten.

Zenthicks

Hmm, maybe I could make it so some of the more dangerous attacks don't start until a few turns have passed, so that the player has some time to set up and can't get wombo comboed instantly.

Sophie B

What about tying the stronger attacks to the number of surviving enemies?

Zenthicks

That's a good idea, might be able to do that.

Is it just me, or does Janet's quest completely break when you go off to find the purple guy? I walk into a room, Janet starts talking about bagels, and then stares at a wall and nothing else happens.

Zenthicks

Oh shoot I bet a later part of the quest is triggering early, I bet I forgot a progress check on one of the events. I'll fix that in the next update, apologies.

Zenthicks

Also if you want a bandaid fix to play all the content now, download the previous WIP that doesn't have the bugged event, once you reach where it ends you can move your save back to the latest one and it'll work since you'll have reached the point that event is *supposed* to trigger.
