Just a little reminder that I don't plan to post full, uncut reactions due to my incompetence on copyright law, and because I don’t have a system in place to send royalties to the copyright holders. So cut versions without the voiceovers/community favourites is at max what I feel comfortable offering in that regard.

Great album. This, Kid A and Amnesiac carried my withered little soul through some tough times during my stretch in the Navy. Prepare yourself... Radiohead fans are coming...

So wonderful seeing your reaction to this masterpiece. You have such a beautiful way of experiencing music and I can’t wait to continue this journey with you! Still remember like it was yesterday when I grabbed this from my dad’s CD rack back in ‘99 and it proceeding to blow my 10 year old brain even though the lyrics flew way over my head. Probably listened over 1000 times since and it just shows the power of Radiohead or the lengths of my obsession that it’s still never gotten old to me. lol. Definitely go back and do The Bends which came before this one too. So many great songs and one of the best closing tracks on any album ever. Also, Talk Show Host is maybe their best non-album song if you could sneak that one in too 😉

I was 21 when this came out, can you even imagine being blessed with this at such an age. You're going to have SUCH a good time if you decide to get into their discography.

Let down is so special to me. I think it represents that feeling of striving for something, wanting to be great (one day I am going to grow wings) and then realizing or feeling that you’re not special (hysterical and useless) and failing (crushed like a bug in the ground). And the song represents these ideas in a cycle. The cycle is even represented in the opening lines with the planes taking off and landing That juxtaposition of growing wings (an angel) and then being a crushed bug in the ground is so emotionally potent. Being an angel is about the best thing you could be, and being a bug is about the worst thing you could be. And it’s the story of a lot of people’s live, always trying to get somewhere, but then we either fail, or it’s not what it seemed like. Cried many times to this song. I think sometimes it’s easy to hand-wave the songwriting and lyricism in Radiohead songs because they are abstract. And it’s sparse, it’s not super dense like a Bob Dylan song or a Kendrick Lamar. But for me, the few words they use evoke so much emotion. Airbag is another example of this, the line “I am born again” holds so much weight. The song only has a few unique lines but I’ve shed a lot of tears to it. The lyrical aspect of Radiohead is underrated in my opinion. I think I have more to say about the song “Let Down” than I do about any other song I have ever listened to. Already can’t wait for the next Radiohead album. I think Brad Pitt said it best “Thom Yorke and the rest of Radiohead are precisely that. What comes out in them I don’t think is anything they could actually articulate, but I would certainly say that it’s that which we all know is true somewhere when we’re in our deepest sleep. That is their importance”
