Video Vault: Minnie (Patreon)

Occasionally I'll speak about hypnosis at events and conventions, and there's a few instances that I use to illustrate how weirdly irresistible hypnosis can be in the right circumstances.

Minnie is one of the prime examples of how a person's expectations pre-shoot can affect how well they respond when the time comes to drop.

So I'd posted a job application to a modelling site, and had a couple of dozen responses. Minnie's stood out immediately. Scuse the para-phrasing:

"Ohhhh my god, please consider me for this! I've always wanted to be hypnotized, it'd be so cool. This is a once in a lifetime oppurtunity for me!"

It's nice when people come in warm to the idea already, so I was more than happy to book her for a session. She showed up every bit the bubbly alt girl: 5 foot nothing, dyed purple hair, and suuuper enthusiastic to be hypnotized.

We started out with photos - it's a good ice-breaking exercise getting someone to look and act hypnotized, before actually being hypnotized later on. (Introduces the concepts, feelings and looks that I'm hoping to see later, but they're awake and getting to know me, so don't feel the same amount of nerves that they might feel being expected to drop immediately for someone they've barely spent any time with yet.

Then came the moment that I produced a pendant for Minnie to hold. On seeing it, her eyes widened and she said "Oooh, pretty..." with a slightly faraway look in her eye. Leaning into what I assumed was a bit, I held it up to the light and agreed that "Yes... it's so pretty in fact... THAT YOU CAN'T LOOK AWAY!"... chuckling to myself, I was about to put the pendant away... but I saw Minnie frowning and looking a little panicked... all whilst gazing transfixed at the pendant... "Y... you're right... I... can't..." she began trailing off.

Did I think she was hypnotized already? No, of course not. I'd been "Hypnotic" for about 6 seconds... that doesn't matter though. Minnie thought she was hypnotized... so hypnotized she was.

Beliefs and expectations shape the outcome. It's not a 1:1 ratio, but they're enough of a factor that when someone comes in believing powerfully that they'll be going under, and won't be able to stop themselves from dropping, that can be exactly what happens.

It happened here. Minnie's a great subject because she wanted to be a great subject. Really fantastic responses. Awake she's giggly and cute and coy and geeky. Blanked she really is gone. Gazing with a detached expression into nothing, not responding at all when poked or tickled or posed. Coming back to her senses with a yelp when I want her to wake and feel whatever tickling or silliness I was just up to.

Great session. Lovely lady, and I'm forever grateful that I get to use this story as an example of how people can hypnotize themselves simply with their expectations before they even set foot within 50 feet of a hypnotist.
