Let us know what you think of the ep :)

HxZero

chad and stacy comes from 4chan as stereotypes for "alpha men and females"

Hoagie Jay

I'm a trans guy and I didn't know you were dating skatie420, Jordan!! That's so sick! Stay sad-pilled, boyz. ❤️

Cari

sir isaac newton rabbit hole/deep-dive filled me with so much glee lmaooo, great ep y'all

bunny

garfield hates mondays because he must persist on leftovers instead of freshly baked lasagna

Tayla

Jordan’s accent change but coming back is so relatable lmao. Having a New Zealand accent in Minnesota has been awful

Kesley George

I think I really like your girlfriend Jordan (respectfully) 🤣

transientbeast

i just type ’o:’ in every message like ’PLEASE dont think im yelling at you or veing rude im so passive and non threatening’

Scully

Best episode ever. I’m such a little space and language nerd. This made my little heart so happy lol

rhye

i study architectural history which means lotsa old documents --- the tea is ALWAYS incredible i swear

Rohey

we need to have an episode ft katie shes so funny

cheeriotomato

I’m waiting for them to say welcome to sad boyz (k)nights and they’re just in full midevil plate armor

Robin Hulbert

I'm going to try and paraphrase what is going on in that letter because it's kind of juicy

Robin Hulbert

"wow! Thanks again for looping Isaac Newton in to the discussion (NOT). I get that you feel like I turned down your offer to 'mediate a discussion' between Isaac and I, but I literally Didn't Know we had beef. I never said Shit about newton, only the dude that talked smack on me at the conference. You made it sound like a whole thing, and so I sent a letter to the secretary asking what wtf as going on. In response they sent back what this og shitalker had to say, a whooolle rant, talking shit on my character and integrity. Embarrassing. It's giving obsessed. Obviously I didn't assume the society or Newton felt the same way 🧐 I'm not trying to make this a whole thing, and my actions (perfect) speak for themselves. Not only does newton know I've never done anything wrong, but he also has better things to do. I also DONT know why everyone's acting like I'm coming to you begging like I've done something wrong. I said what I said, and I'm sorry if somebody lied to you and told you that I wanted your opinion xoxoxoxo

Amalie Lind Ravn

I had a dream the other night where I was hanging out with y'all after you'd recorded Sad Boyz and the only thing I remember from it was that Anastacia could perfectly mimic a wood pigeon Also hell yeah linguistics!

skkat

I love that etymology guy

warycola

i paused the episode after getting off a plane and immediately had a great fall down the escalator

ayesha

how has katie not been a main episode guest yet

AkiSutaHatter

katie is insanely funny i hope she guests on an episode soon

Jessica Olafson

Jordan loving his girlfriend is my favorite part

Rachel Eakes

The Sir Isaac Newton Letter & History of English tangent got my English Lit Major brain all happy!! SO many famous authors had beef with each other and wrote frilly letters like that to be like 'yeah I DID talk shit and ANOTHER THING' so I'm thrilled the boyz are getting to experience it lmao Ye Olde Author/Philosopher Beef could be an ep in itself!

Moby Doggy

Nooo I bet we all mimic you constantly 😂 it’s so MN lmao

Rachel Eakes

on the point about accent/language acquisition, I will argue that some of my vocab/inflections changed after living in London for a year but to relate it to Jordan's story from the main ep about being drunk-- the only time I ever talked fully in a British accent while living in the UK was at a Christmas party verging on blackout but I had talked in it for so long people stopped believing that I was American (basically the opposite of the girl Anastasia knew in her study abroad lmao)

Rachel Schulte

Omg Katie is so funny I love her so much 😂😂 I hope she comes on the pod sometime soon!!

Abrielle DiFranco

i love the etymology tiktok guy! every time his vids show up on my fyp i always stay for the whole thing bc i also find etymology interesting :)

Abrielle DiFranco

also- was out shopping today at target and saw some magic the gathering packs, immediately thought of y’all! i honestly almost bought a pack despite knowing nothing about it outside of what you guys have said LOL (and i had never heard of it at all before you guys started talking about it)

Hoagie Jay

"I'm sorry if somebody lied to you and told you that I wanted your opinion" is CRAZY! 😭

sunbernt

Idk if this is a zoomer take or a midwest one, but I think y'all are overthinking 'okay'. I text ok/okay all the time, especially to my family as a simple acknowledgement, and so do all my friends. It's hard to misconstrue, especially with an exclamation point. Okay!

Gianna

guys im so high this rocked

Robin Hulbert

I KNOW he so specifically says this too. It goes hard ngl

Adrian 🧜‍♀️

My dad does the boomer ellipses. And now my gen z sister does it too because of him lol

astroquarium

Garfield actually hates mondays bc he's sad Jon has to go back to work :))

beakusfreakus

my worst fall happened on the first day of my junior semester in undergrad on the train at 9am, completely packed. I was racking my bike, holding it up in the air when the train took off and I went flying like a cartoon character. my bike landed on top of me. Did I mention the train was packed? Also my huge water bottle clocked some poor guy in the shin when I went flying. my fall had collateral damage. no one said anything and people did not try to help, which was for the best. I apologized so much to the guy I smacked with my water bottle. the only thing more bruised than my ass was my pride

Lee U

My mom does the boomer ellipses but it just makes it sound like she forgot what she was saying halfway thru lol She also double spaces on digital typing. She's so dyslexic she knows she's bot supposed to do all these things but she's like it took me too long to learn it right then to unlearn it now

Jennifer Edmonson

I love that as the patreon goes on the later and later the intro for nights getd

Marie Panduro Olesen

As someone who’s currently getting my masters degree in linguistics my favorite thing about linguists is that they’ll be talking about the most insane things like “raw dogging” and be completely factual and academic about it. bc even when you are describing modern slang and online culture you’ll have to use academic language… and that’s also what makes linguistics so fun bc every person in the world uses language and it’s what binds us together as humans and what we use to express ourselves in creative and interesting ways. there’s always something new ☺️

Vvover

I've been obsessed with this man for months now. I'm so glad he's well known

Link Simiis

I use Ellipse a lot... i text like, in the exact way i speak, so if i pause while typing out my message ill put an ellipse to show that i was thinking, or confused

Emily Riebeek

Last year i fell out of a bus and it drove away. Broke my foot in the process. Woke up flat on my back on pavement surrounded by a bunch of soccer players lmao

Lydia Gentry

My time has come. My niche interest in medieval and early modern languages and literature has finally come in handy. Early Modern English would be hard to understand for all the reasons stated. Additionally, it would be hard bc english experienced a ‘Great Vowel Shift’ in which the sounds of vowels completely changed over the course of a few centuries. Look up ‘great vowel shift,’ its a great rabbit hole to get lost in lol

skkat

Idk how old you are but to younger people this does absolutely feel a bit passive-aggressive... See what i did there? Lol anyway when i want to express a pause like that i usually use a comma which obviously is confusing because i also use commas in all the places where clarification is need for other reasons but its better than people misinterpreting the tone of my messages

Link Simiis

I'm 21, and I usually don't send messages to people I don't know, and I understand how other people may see it, so when talking to others, I text flat like this. The only time I use ellipses is with friends/family that I've talked to, I have never had to explain to someone I knew, why I text like I do, because I sometimes pause when speaking, bc my brains weird/ I can't explain it.

Rae

One time I had to talk my mom down from a work email she was sent. The person was using exclamations a lot like “Hey!” And she thought they were like yelling at her. I had to tell her it was like a jolly “hey” and that all caps was more of a yelling thing.

Ambrose Blanchard

one of my favorite things about studying history is being able to see everyone’s drama in history. i LOVE historical gossip

Void WL

As an autistic person the guy in the story at the start sounds like a very specific type of autistic men that I’ve started noticing everywhere— I pity these men because they’re lonely and never got the support to develop the skills to become less lonely, but I also fear them because if they continue to not get the support (and no random person is obligated to give them the support!) they will resent women to an increasingly angry degree Same kind of guy as Hoe Math I also heard a story about an autistic man trying to get a girlfriend by hanging out around the outside of a dominos and hitting on random women trying to buy pizza, because someone told him to “go out” as advice to meet women without clarifying that you have to go out to a bar or something. Which is funny and sad on its own but the guy took the wrong lesson from the fact that it didn’t work and went on to become a violent incel

SlothButt

Ayy I grew up on British youtubers, and now my Australian accent gets questioned >:-0

Kschiwy

Katie said hi to me oh my god! I cant believe we are dating now!

Tayla

Absolutely 😂 95% of the time it makes me giggle

william hutchens

The double space thing was taught to me in elementary school. I'm 33 there were no type writers when I was around just dumb old teachers. My boss had to tell me that wasn't a thing anymore on an engineering report like a decade ago 🤣

sadnehs

I JUST saw a Youtube short, of a comment saying "People who say English is like a stack of three languages in a trenchcoat, are grossly over simplifying it. English is actually a slut that loves to fuck all the other languages."

Equine Musings

Why is Katie, Wanda from Bojack? When Jordan said "i'm going to start seeing other people" and Katie just said "Ok! " It just gave me Bojack and Wanda lmao.

Chase

JORDAN YOU GET ME!!!! I’ve been trying to to explain this texting back delinquency issue I’ve had and neither my therapist nor ADHD HCP understand me. But you’ve explained it exxxactly as I have been trying to say it. It keeps me bogged in such shame, in that I feel like it’s just me. Thank you for saying it so I can get out of my own shame cycle!!

Jesse D

Ugh! She would be funny and cute! It's so Joever for me and my chances with Jordan!

Jori

I love this.

Jori

I refuse to stop doing the double space after a period. I have worked in offices for over 10 years and I learned it in school and I just like how it looks !

Ellen Ringrose

My grandpa’s a member of the Royal Society I’ll ask him to get ya access 😂

Azarxii

Just the thought of a life sized Garfield filled with lasagna tripping on his tail, falling off a deck and rolling down a hill made me start weeping tears of appreciation of how hilarious that concept is

maroon 5 (cat)

After I found out people read a thumbs up as passive aggressive I just began using the salute emoji as an affirmative, works wonders !

nyxie

Growing up I was in a country that didn't primarily speak English but I learned within a British school system. We had teachers from various parts of the UK, Australia, New Zealand, and a few US. And on TV I'd mainly watch British and Canadian content (and as I got older, more American in my own time). My accent was EXTREMELY mixed when I moved to Canada, but I think I assimilated into a 'no accent' very quickly.

Daughter of Mũmbi

A Gen X colleague used the phrase rawdog at work (corporate, in person, button down shirts and slack type of place) in reference to doing something without assistance. Folks were laughing and staring. The other millennial on the team had to explain the original meaning.
