⚠ CW/TW: We discuss our complicated relationships with food in the first 10 minutes of this episode.

Tom MacDonald recently released a new song (bad) and we also found his merch (worse).

Also, is cooking for one worth it?

jarvis! ik you're on your documentary kick and i recommend the new Hulu documentary about the Youtube family vlogging channel 8Passengers. It's called Devil in the Family. It's QUITE heavy but you might find it interesting from a Youtuber perspective. Just a suggestion to take or leave :~)

Missy Story

I appreciate hearing people discuss food with such nuance

Sarah Amelia

i hog you and you hog me…🎶 hoggedly🎶 😭

Baltazar

this is the first sad boyz nightz episode i see and i love the fact that it may be probably the messiest one lol love the show! <3

sarahtonin

truly, same. it feels so grounding instead of the cacophony of "advice" online that is pushed into my eyeballs by an algorithm

Coralee Snow

I'm 138 years old and I love this!

Cooking at home is wildly unbalanced. It sucks early game and is underpowered until midgame when the skill tree really opens up. Most of the "useless" mats you collect for early fetch quests suddenly become useful too. Late game is actually incredible when you don't even need recipes to craft, you can just look at your inventory and usually you'll be able to throw something together. TLDR: order in for linear progression when you want to focus on other aspects of the game, invest in home cooking for insane mid/late game perks if it interests you.

This was so uncomfortable to watch - I mean because of this strange man culturally appropriating and also because he‘s a conservative dumb fuck😭 But I guess these things often go hand in hand… I’ve also watched the podcast about the Dunkin Donuts commercial and noticed the use of AAVE by white people (for example Ben Affleck), which even made me as a white person uncomfortable so I can‘t imagine how cringe it must have been for you guys 😅

Bex Machina

In my opinion, as someone who got out, what they want is a theocracy.

Kyla C

Thank you, I enjoyed the random singing in this episode

Bingo TallHats

Shoutout to big bag of dry lentil, big bag of dry rice, and frozen vegetable for keeping my broke lazy self fed. Oh giant can of tomato chunk, where would I be without thee? T’would be a dry and alkaline life, poor of sauce

Gwen Serenity

“Crooked as a fence post” fence posts aren’t supposed to be crooked right? Aren’t they straight? If you’re gonna make a shitty song at least make sure your metaphors make sense.

Natalie (redundantmartyr)

The dating app that shows whether you're related to someone or not does not appear to exist in New Zealand. I did several Google searches out of curiosity, because I had never heard of it over here, and came up with nothing. Sorry, fellow Kiwis.

Tabitha

the groceries/dining out debate i think does depend on where you’re located and the availability of places around you. i also will say as one person living alone, you will quickly find out how much shit you can store in the freezer because you just don’t eat it fast enough even if you are like me and don’t mind leftovers and don’t get tired of having the same thing.

Tabitha

i’ll also plug jordan and mckay on youtube for this topic as well, they’ve been reporting on 8 pass for years and they’re ex-mormons so they come at it from the angle, which i’m not sure if the documentary covers

Wyke Reed

Just add more butter and oil and more salt than you think if you want it to taste better

Ugh, as a Dane, Trump's obsession with Greenland is on the news every day, and it's really making people show their colonist roots. They're conflating Trump's statements with actual issues and dismissing them. "Trump says he wants to buy Greenland? That's ridiculous" gets lumped in with people from Greenland expressing genuine desire for independence, but no this too is just ridiculous. Sometimes it gets masked with words like "the bond and shared history we have" or a patronising "aww that wouldn't be very good for them, but they just don't know it" and there are polls on whether or not Danes think Greenland should have independence. We shouldn't have a say in that! That's a decision for the people of Greenland! And then there's also the fact that one of the arguments Trump used was that Danes are racist towards the people of Greenland which again was met with a sentiment of: "oh that's rich coming from Trump of all people," and then people conveniently end it there instead of acknowledging that it's true. One recent example is that whenever Danes do the whole "people are so sensitive these days" one of the first things they will complain about is an ice cream that changed name a couple of years ago, so it doesn't include a slur for Inuit people anymore.

Julia

I think he was trying to emulate the feel of that Rich Men North of Richmond song with more production, in addition to the other influences. It's like class struggle cosplay. It also stands out as not being a "meme song" and will probably get mainstream radio play and thats going to suuuuuuuuck here in the south. I've got a feeling I'm going to hear it all summer.

sarahtonin

love them sm im a channel member of theirs!

Sophia

side note but the set for the podcast is looking super nice!! love the posters hanging up and the lighting, great job everyone <3

TK

G-easy! He biting his shit.

Etienne

That Tom McDonald song might very well have been written by Suno or some other AI tool which would explain why the lyrics are "more diplomatic" than his usual stuff, and explain the very generic "post malone song" vibe it has

Lee U

Why in the early vid is he just pouring feed like onto the chickens. Like on top of their bodies skgkkgkg

Dylon Merrell

One of the most unhinged nights episodes in a wild. I love it.

Annbags Mcgee

The piano in the background of the verses of "Wannabe" sounds like it's sampled off "Colourblind" by Counting Crows. What a missmatch lol

Melissa Bennett

I feel like the middle ground between cooking and eating out is just frozen meals? Like they've gotten really good, they're all cheaper than takeout, and honestly probably around the same price as cooking a single meal for a single person. I'm not talking like one of those meal prep services, I just mean like go to the grocery store and hit up the frozen section. Sure, it's loaded with sodium and preservatives, but it can't be any worse nutritionally than constant takeout.

Sav

They're barely any food for the price though, I have to eat two to feel full (I'm only 5'4 and 110lbs too)

Sav

I might have this mindset bc I've been a professional chef for 4 years in Utah (bringing this up bc I have the skills and Utah def isn't as expensive as Cali), but eating out (at restaurants that is) is so so so much more expensive than making a 4 serving dinner and then eating the leftovers throughout the week

electric_claire

What are y'all doing that eating out costs as much as cooking at home? Here's a recipe for you: -2 Golden Curry roux cubes -2/3 cup of rice -whatever veggies you want -chicken (breast or thigh) Incredibly easy to make, very cheap, no meal prep, and cheap.

Jacob

tom macdonald in the same room as dave batista is wild

Novelty Socks

"Jacob's putting a blanket over our cage" made me cry laughing

Cane.shuga

My uncle in his fifties listened to Wannabe and was immediately obsessed with Tom and has remained so to this day. He straight up turned my uncle conservative after like 45 years of no real political affiliation lmao

melmelmelmel

Listening to the first 5 mins of this episode right after having mad decision paralysis/existential crises at the grocery store was so cathartic

Ratprints

i enjoyed the singing at the end haha

Glóey Karlsdóttir (Glow)

Iceland has a database of everyone there because we've written down everyone who's arrived here and was born here since like the year 800 2 guys made an app version of this in like 2010 for a programming competition that worked for like 6 months There is no dating app with this function, it's just a myth foreigners love repeating because it sounds funny

Glóey Karlsdóttir (Glow)

You can look anyone up in this database whenever you want if you want to check how they are related to you if you want but it's just a website and you usually know who is closely related to you unless you somehow ended up estranged from your family

Dylan (batmanboy11) Freitag

With the absolute (and deserved) vitriol Canada is throwing at Wayne Gretzky for being a piece of shit MAGA asshole, Tom MacDonald better hope he never has to come crawling back here or anyone who remembers he exists is going to throw garbage at him for the rest of his life for being such a bootlicking Trump freak.

Calea

Those YouTube comments can’t be real. I refuse to believe it.

rn

Didn’t want to comment on YouTube - but you said you were trying a new thing by getting straight to the topic at the start in the podcast. I found I prefer when you segue into the topics after a small check in rather than jump into the topic straightaway. Maybe it’s just me but when episodes begin with you talking about where you are in your mental health pendulum wrt ADHD, anxiety, depression and how it affects your current daily functioning - it makes me feel very validated and puts me at ease - helping me relax and listen to the podcast as if I was a part of it as opposed to just listening to it passively :)

Lily Delphia

“There’s a man with a bloodline who owns the whole world” makes me think of King Charles.

maroon 5 (cat)

im icelandic and i always forget people know it exists so hearing y'all talk about it felt like a personal shout out 😭

Erin

I fake meal prep by cooking a dinner that could feed 4-5 and eating it for the next week

Danny Rees

That is a valid way to meal prep though, you aren't faking It. You are just doing it! Good job!

parm

Just got my wisdom teeth out and it felt like the perfect time to splurge on sad boyz patreon while I'm in bed <3

Kiwimadd0g

Oh americaaaaa oh canadaaaaa

Ísak Elísson

Sorgmæddra drengja Íslendingar sameinast!

dee

to be totally honest, while hellofresh isn't the most morally upstanding company, and is a bit pricey, it's perfect for me making food for one person. i get a 2-person serving size, and use half for dinner and half for lunch the next day. i don't have a car so it's great to not have to go grocery shopping for 3 hrs every week. also i now eat fruit and vegetables! yay no scurvy!

Sad Boyz Nightz - the musical episode

Arran P

Tom McDonald Christian rock pivot was not on my 2025 bingo card...

DakotaTalks

100% agree been using it recently. i feel slightly guilty but its just so damn nice and makes things simple

DakotaTalks

tom mcdonald has gone woke

Lance Elliott

To answer Jarvis's question he's biting g-eazy, sounds identical

Addie Nobody

You could say…. Tom has a farm… eieio

James de Haast

Eating out vs cooking really depends on location, I'd go broke so quickly not cooking for myself in Helsinki

Silver

At 23:10 they mention Amouranth 2018 vs 2025, but whats the joke? I dont really know anything about her besides her abuse from her boyfriend and her being a sex worker

Waxo

Pretty sure she’s recently pivoted into the right wing grift, on top of some anti lgbtq+ takes likes

kalarra

@12:00 another way to frame our intentions when communicating is Sharing, Support or Solutions. Sharing: sometimes you just want to info-drop and not need anything from the other person, ie; “I have a bit of a headache today so I might seem a bit out of sorts but I’m all good” Support: you want to be comforted, share excitement or feel validated in your emotions, ie; venting about an annoying coworker or celebrating a personal goal. Solutions: you actively want help figuring out a problem, ie; I want your advice on how to deal with this person or issue.

kalarra

Shoutout to Multiamory pod and their Triforce of Communication which helped me understand the idea of just communicating to share info

Moth Alder

"do do do do do do do- hungry like the wolf. um." I relate to Jarvis so hard. I'm glad my adhd doesn't mean im broken and alone LOL

Moth Alder

she's gone full nazi

Moth Alder

very entertained by the "whelp, I'm goin' to bed" reference

Lana

The thing with food is so real, I have struggled so so much with it at uni with chronic pain and audhd and a myriad of mental health stuff. All the steps cause me so much pain and take lots of energy and I don't have much desire to eat anyway. I now have a huel drink each day, and often one of my meals is a bunch of snacks because it's the only way I can manage to eat. There is such a morality attached to everything that I am still struggling with feeling like I'm not eating well enough, despite the fact that managing to eat at all atm is a success. It's always so nice to hear you guys talk about aspects of struggles I find it difficult to articulate, and this is a nice reminder that it is just okay to need to eat out or to not be able to cook things sometimes/often.

Elliot Rae

I've been making myself the same sandwich to eat multiple times a week for... months now I 'meal prep' some bacon and chicken and then use a little indoor electric grill to kinda panini my sandwich. I put mixed greens and cucumbers and pesto and cheese. All the food groups. Not tired of it yet.

Anna K

I'm like a month late BUT the main melody of the first tom macdonald song is eerily similar to the melody in the first verse of second chances by imagine dragons, like there are some subtle differences but it's really damn close lmao.

Brennan

Meal prep is the way to go 100% I’ve been prepping all my meals for the week every Saturday for the last couple weeks and it’s been great

Jori

As a Canadian, I'm so sorry about tom.

Levi Venn

This is the second time I've heard Jarvis sing a Johnny Horton song (briefly the Battle of New Orleans). It's a nostalgia jumpscare reminding me of my dad's old records.

sorayah

really it was on mine

Jaiden

Do most people only make like one meal at a time? Whenever I do a dinner it's for 2-3 nights at a time. Saves on cooking time, cleaning, cost, everything!
