Being from America, but having learned Waltzing Matilda in some music class as a kid, this was a surreal experience

Thank you so much Sad Boyz for introducing me to these to aussies. I was vaguely aware of I did a thing, but didn't think it was for me. After watching every video on the Boy Boy channel I gave it another try, and I can't believe what I was missing out on! very good channel 10/10 would recommend

I know the tune of Waltzing Matilda, because it was turned into a protest song against NATO and US military presence in Iceland. One of the verses goes "This is the army that points all of its bayonets/ at children and women and unarmed crowds/with torture, threats and treason it tries to/conjure up unrest and war between great powers" so the mood of the lyrics is quite different from the original, but to counteract that, the melody is even more upbeat than the Australian version.

Luna Grzan

I was frustrated (not really lmao) about that same thing! thank you for setting the record straight 💜

Persi

Loved this! Very fun as an aussie to to watch this

garbobarge

As an Australian I fucking lost it when they started singing Waltzing Matilda. It really does sound like a satire of Australians, “once a jolly swagman camped by a billabong, under the shade of a coolabah tree” like that’s indecipherable if you’re not from Australia. It’s like a wartime shibboleth.

garbobarge

Also I definitely say Milk Bar, maybe it’s a Victorian thing

boyboy and sadboyz watching beta squad is my multiverse
