Stream Results—October 31st, 2018: Stirge Blood Queen, Crota Son of Oryx, and Werestirge (Patreon)

Now, some monsters:

Stirge Blood Queen & Swarm of Stirges

This one actually came about as the result of a discussion on the Discord server about "a mosquito turned into a CR 30 demigod," which eventually evolved into "Stirge God."

I originally started with Large for the size, but upgraded it when I realized after the stream that the smallest published creature with the "titan" tag is Huge. It also seemed to work a little better with the flavor, so I wasn't upset about the change.

Other than that, it was basically just taking the stirge stat block, kicking all the ability scores up to near-deity levels, and piling all the resistances, immunities, and traits I could possibly justify. Add to that some kickass damage potential (tied to some HP regeneration), and some powerful Legendary Actions, and this was the result.

Also check out the Swarm of Stirges, which could be used for this encounter, or even alone for a lower-level encounter in and of itself.

Crota, Son of Oryx

Another entry based on a character from the Destiny series, suggested by (who else?) @whistlehunter. This one's based on Oryx's son Crota.

I started playing Destiny 2 when Blizzard released the base game for free, so I actually have at least some firsthand knowledge of the series now, even though it's all post-Crota/Oryx.

In any event, this one ended up being a doozy. It was decided from the get-go that Crota would be near to a Demon Lord in terms of power, so we were shooting for a CR of mid-20s. This was surprisingly easy to do, given Crota's size, ferocity, and that big, mean sword he carries.

Add some extra damage on top of the martial attacks, with a good AoE and some neat Legendary Actions, and he fit right into where we were shooting for.

Werestirge

After the Stirge Blood Queen and the Swarm of Stirges, the Twitch chat decided to further the set when I asked for more ideas for creature #3, so we ended up with the Werestirge.

This beastie was more or less just taken from the wererat stat block, then juiced up (with stirge flavor) to a CR roughly equal to that of a werewolf.

Obviously it kept the blood drain ability in its stirge form, with a lesser bite in hybrid form. Other than that, the abilities and weapon attacks are more or less what you'd expect from the humanoid-form of a lycanthrope. Easy.

And that's another stream!

As I mentioned on today's stream, I'm actually going to be gone for a week and a half as my wife and I go on vacation to Norway! I'm really excited, and it's going to be a lot of fun, but that also means I won't be streaming for two weeks—the next one will be on December 5th

Hopefully though, time waiting in airports or nights hanging out in our lodgings will give me time to finish writing up the remaining stream docs I'm behind on—or maybe it won't help at all, who knows??
