Before I start "Entangled in Casts" story, I am going to finish "Polly's CCC" story which takes place in real time line. Some of my patreons might have seen this picture as a reward picture last year. This picture was too good so, I decided to reuse this as the final casts combo of her in the CCC Finale. To recap, Polly was sent to a Camp Crush Course in a jungle under Dr.Laura's command to defeat her sister, Lena. however, Polly had faced so many challenges and betrayals that left her with broken bones. PreviousPolly's CCC Final
Written by mabauterklammPanting! Continuous, slow panting! As if an old woman was operating a bellows with everlasting last remaining strength. Without pause and at a great distance!
And now... the moment Polly struggled to open her eyes, the snorting seemed to get louder and louder. And then, just as it seemed to be right inside her, Polly squinted her right eye shut again. Bright, glaring white light literally stabbed her retina. She wanted to turn her head to the side, away from that painful white color, but her neck didn't obey her for a millimeter.
"She's finally waking up," said a soft female voice. "Poor thing!"
"Yes, I see it too," said another woman. She had a more mature voice, from which an underlying unease could be heard.
To Polly it sounded like a nurse and a doctor. As if Dr. Laura and herself were standing in front of a patient. But... "poor thing"... Did that mean her? It would explain why she felt an all-encompassing throbbing pain throughout the whole of her body. Not one part of her body seemed to be spared. Not even an earlobe.
Polly swallowed with difficulty. Her right eyelid fluttered as she struggled a second time to open it.
She found herself lying. Most likely in a bed, maybe in a hospital bed. And in front of it stood a woman in a white coat, with a stethoscope around her neck and a wry smile on her face. She wore her black hair short and looked to be in her forties. Next to her there was a young nurse in a light blue uniform whose friendly smile touched Polly's heart. Oh, it was almost like when she and Dr. Laura could spend peaceful days together back then.
But now, Polly remembered, Dr. Laura was recuperating in her home with all her limbs in long casts from her unfortunate encounters with her big sister Lena. And Laura's plan to best prepare Polly for a confrontation with Lena through her participation in the training camp of the NGO "Enhancing Values in Life"... oh... what had happened to that plan? Polly couldn't really remember.
She blinked, hoping to see a little more color than just white soon as she wasn't lying flat on her back. No, she was half-sitting up in her hospital bed... But there was so much white! Glaringly bright white where her body should actually be!
And this endless panting...
"In 10 years as an orthopaedic surgeon, I've never seen a patient like this," the doctor whispered to herself.
"A patient like this?" What was that supposed to mean? And then Polly's gaze slowly sharpened and the white in front of her eye took shape - the shape of a human being, with thick white legs and thick white arms. Whereby... Polly blinked... the fingers and toes, at least the ones she could see, looked quite normal.
"Her name is Polly. She's 29 years old and was caught up in the accident when the rocket vehicle hit a house. We also have other patients from that incident," the nurse began to explain.
"I know." The doctor grimaced as if she was injured herself. "I really appreciate Dr. Maguchi's work, but don't you think he overdid it this time?"
"Dr. Maguchi worked really hard on her, believe me. He patched her up in two double shifts without a break." The nurse paused. "Oh, sorry. No pun intended. Well... I mean, if he hadn't been completely exhausted at the end, he would have told you personally about her condition."
"I've seen her medical records." The doctor lifted a clipboard with a thick pad of paper. "But I haven't seen a Minerva plaster for a long time!"
"Well, she had serious injuries to her head and neck," the nurse reported in a serious voice. "These are being treated by the Minerva. And there was clear evidence of a severe blow to the face from the left side. Because her nose is broken and her jaw is also injured. Her left eye was badly swollen shut. Also..." The nurse took a deep breath. "... all the bones are broken in her arms. The radius, the ulna, the humerus and also the shoulder joints. That's why she's now wearing this double shoulder spica cast. However, the fracture positions and types are not the same. So her arms had to be casted in different positions, the right one normal and the left one elevated. Dr. Maguchi used sophisticated traction devices to set her arms at the required angle and with different counterweights to best align the broken bones." The nurse gasped and paused for a while. It looked as if she was exhausted from explaining Polly's condition. And that was just the upper body. But then she added something in an admiring voice: "Dr. Maguchi is very proud of his work. He predicts she will make a full recovery."
"In this monster of a full body cast?" the doctor asked, her voice sounding almost an octave higher. "Well... don't get me wrong. I don't question Dr. Maguchi's expertise. I admire his work. But what he did to her jaw... It looks like it's from the previous millennium."
"It may be a little uncomfortable for her not to be able to close her mouth for a while. And she'll probably have a speech impediment during treatment time, but..." The nurse shrugged her shoulders.
"... but Dr. Maguchi is sure that all this is necessary? A nose cast? An eye patch? And her plaster arms look so thick..."
"That's why they're supported by these two rods. The finest stainless steel!"
"And do you know how Dr. Maguchi justified the exposure of her breasts? There are no details in the medical report."
"Preventive measures against claustrophobic conditions. He hopes the two sticking plasters meet the requirements for modesty."
"I don't see any problems there. But..." The doctor was still completely fascinated. "Her huge single plaster cast continues over both legs-"
"Masterfully spread!" the nurse interrupted the doctor. She seemed to want to go into raptures.
"Unfortunately, the right leg in plaster seems to be so heavy that it has to be supported by two traction slings. From the side, the angle looks like a 'V', that's how high it is. And the left leg in plaster looks even thicker."
"That's also the reason why Dr. Maguchi didn't try to lift it. It's resting on this extra strong footrest. You know, her legs were already broken before the accident. And the impact of the rocket-powered vehicle didn't make it any better, of course. For her right leg, we found a fracture of the hip, femur and tibia, but since her ankle was already broken, we elevated it at a high angle to avoid stressing the previous injury. It may seem ridiculous to the layman, but it's genius.
Her left leg was already in a long walking cast because it was also already broken. Removing the old cast and fitting a new one would have been a difficult task, which even Dr. Maguchi shied away from for the sake of the patient. In the end, Dr. Maguchi decided to simply close the cracks and apply another layers to make sure it wouldn't break again."
"The poor woman must weigh three times her normal weight in that condition! Why did Dr. Maguchi use classic plaster casts and not fiberglass?"
"Well..." The nurse raised her eyebrows meaningfully, leaned to the side and whispered something in the doctor's ear that Polly couldn't hear.
"Did Dr. Maguchi take care of an extra reinforced bed?"
"Oh..." The smile disappeared from the nurse's face. "We didn't think of that!" she admitted, startled.
"I'll write it down in the medical records right away." The doctor pulled a pen out of her breast pocket and began to write on the front page, but quickly stopped. "What a nuisance. The pen no longer writes. Can you lend me yours?"
"Yes, of course." The nurse tapped her breast pocket and made a surprised face. "Where... Well... I must have misplaced it."
"Oh, we'll think about that later. Just like changing the urine bag, by the way."
"You can count on me!"
"All right, let's get started then." The doctor carefully took a step closer. "Polly," she said, "don't worry! You have to be strong, brave and, above all, patient, but you'll make a full recovery. It'll just take a while."
"What takesh a while?" Polly tried to ask, but it sounded like a croak and she had to repeat her question. Her voice sounded strange somehow.
"As you can hear, at the moment her speech is impaired by the head gear," said the nurse. "And her breathing is impaired because of her broken nose."
"That's right. She's wheezing like an old steam engine." The doctor shrugged her shoulders and leaned down.
"Your recovery, Polly. You're in a... Uh..." With raised eyebrows, the doctor turned to the nurse for help.
"A full body cast!" the nurse said quickly. "It's called a full body cast."
A full body cast? Only now did Polly begin to understand, although she didn't want to believe her ears. All that was white to Polly instead of her body were her plastered legs and arms. And what the nurse and doctor had just described sounded bigger than anything Polly had ever had medical attention for before. She'd only seen casts that big on the plaster fetish websites she'd surfed earlier.
No wonder they hadn't given her fiberglass. They had probably used up a year's supply of plaster casts just for her!
"How are you feeling now, Polly?" The doctor had turned back to Polly and very gently placed her hand on Polly's steeply raised leg. When Polly moaned, the doctor flinched, startled and took her hand away. "Oh. That's answer enough. Can you remember what happened, Polly?"
"What happened?" Polly blinked her right eye in confusion. "If I remember correctly, I was baking cookiesh."
"Baking cookies?" the doctor exclaimed, visibly surprised.
"I baked the cookiesh for Dr. Nofeld and Mrsh. Hartmann. They were shtanding in front of the open kitshen window, waiting impashiently for me finishing she baking. I had shust taken shem out of the oven and wash about to try one when it fell on the floor. I shink I had a leg in plashter and an arm in plashter... or even two legs or two arms in plashter? In any cashe, it'sh not easy to pick someshing up off the floor wish one or two plashtered legsh and one or two plashtered armsh."
"What?" asked the doctor, as if she couldn't believe her ears.
"I remember: she cookie wash a bit dushty, but shtill intact. Shust ash I wash about to put it in my moush, I heard a shunderous noishe and the shcreams of many girlsh. I froshe in my poshishion and could only turn my eyesh to the window, whish wash on my left."
"You were wearing a neck brace," the nurse interjected.
"Yesh, shat makesh shenshe! It wash like watshing a horror movie in shlow moshion. I shaw my friend Aenna shitting at the front, shcreaming in terror. Shere were osher girlsh behind her, all terrified and all..." Polly frowned thoughtfully and let out a short groan. It just hurt too much. "... and shey were all more or lesh plashtered. I shought I wash imagining it, because thoshe girlsh couldn't be shtupid enough to want to fly sho fasht with all shose inshuriesh."
The doctor and nurse stared dumbly at Polly, their eyes and mouths agape.
"But when I realished I washn't dreaming..." Polly continued, as if she were telling a fairytale. "... it wash too late. Thish kind of vehicle hit the kitshen, right between Dr. Nofeld, Mrsh. Hartmann and me. Like a ragdoll, I wash flung away, and I felt my left arm move freely, as if it washn't part of the cashted arm... or wash it even a shoulder casht anymore. My shoulder casht must have broken in two from the impact, and my broken arm moved even in plashes it washn't shupposhed to move. Shen pain eshploded in my right hip and arm from shlamming into a posht. Wedshed between the debrish of the vehicle and the posht, a beam fell on my head, then the sheiling and finally a pile of bricksh. Only my right hand wish the twishted wrisht shtuck out from between the pile of bricksh. And shen the cookie, whish whirled shrough she air by she impact, fell onto my half-open palm. How ironic shat it wash the shame cookie I had picked up from she floor. Miraculoushly, she cookie was shtill intact in one pieshe, but I, the baker, wash not."
Polly paused for a moment, but this time she could control herself to frown. "After shat, my memory is erased. I musht have pashed out."
The doctor and nurse stared at Polly, still speechless. Then they turned to each other and looked at each other questioningly.
"The girl has a wild imagination," said the nurse. "It's impossible to remember!"
"Post-traumatic stress disorder, or maybe she's even..." The doctor let her outstretched index finger circle around her temple. "Are there any contacts with relatives?" She lifted the clipboard and leafed through the documents. "There's something here about a certain Nurse Lucy from C.A.S.T. Hospital. She said she'll send an ambulance to pick her up as soon as her condition is stable." The doctor looked puzzled. "Well, that will probably take some time yet. But... is it THE C.A.S.T. hospital? The number one in our country?"
"I think so. Dr. Maguchi mentioned he wanted to apply there. They're looking for new staff."
"Polly must have been very close friends with that Nurse Lucy, because no one on the outside can get the staff's information."
"Um, um, actually, Polly is a nurse from this hospital too," the nurse replied.
"What, really! Oh, I'm so sorry that you have to experience this, my dear Polly. We will do our best to get you fit again in the shortest possible time. So please be patient until then! And if you need anything, don't hesitate to call for help. But rest for now." The doctor's tone suddenly changed to a honeyed tone, albeit somewhat frantic, as she stroked Polly's toes.
"The CAST hospital is hiring staff, did you say?" the doctor asked the nurse, slowly moving away from Polly's bed.
"Dr. Maguchi mentioned something like that."
"I must apply there immediately!" The doctor whirled around and headed for the door.
"That's a good idea! I'll do that too!" With one leap, the nurse jumped to her side.
"Eshcushe me," Polly called after her. "But may I shoin my friendsh from training camp?"
With the door handle in her hand, the doctor turned around in astonishment. "Don't you want to stay in a single room?"
"Single room?!" the nurse exclaimed in astonishment. "Think of the money!"
The doctor kicked her in the shin. "We'll fulfill your every wish, Polly. Do you really want to join your comrades?"
"Yesh, please."
"Ok, we'll be happy to arrange it!"
Slowly and with a submissive bow, the doctor turned back to the door and pushed her way out.
"What's wrong?" the nurse asked, her lips curled into a frozen smile as she followed the doctor.
"She's an employee of the C.A.S.T. hospital. If we treat her well, she'll tell the director, the most powerful woman. Remember your application," the doctor hissed.
The voices slowly faded, but Polly could hear them, although her were for covered by her minerva cast.
"Wait, the director? The most powerful woman? What the hell! Do you speak of Lena? What was she doing the last years?"
With the nurse's question, the two closed the door and Polly was alone.
She was frustrated by these thoughts of Lena. Ending up in a full body cast had not been Dr. Laura's or her plan. She wanted to run away from these casts, this bed, this hospital and this place. But the only thing she was able to do was wiggle her right eyelid and most of her toes and fingers. Well... and to continue her panting.THE END
