Gohan did lose his tail twice in DBZA it just happened to grow back just before he transformed when they were fighting Vegeta. The first time he lost his tail was after he transformed when Piccolo blew up the moon. Can understand you missing it, it just happens so fast in the abridged version.

Giran didn’t actually cheat once during this tournament. He probably should have won, as the Nimbus was DEFINITELY cheating. Giran gave up because Goku broke the merry go round gum, which nobody has ever been able to do
