In the manga whitebeard lost a part of his head when Akainu hit him but it was cencored for the anime to just be the beard. I guess you already knew that Roger was a D? That was supposed to be a big reveal because until this point his name was Gold Roger instead of Gol D. Roger

Now that you're here I can say that 485 is personally my favorite episode ever. The most epic death imo in all media I've seen so far. I watched it over a dozen times, sometimes on its own just because, and I still teared up this time when his back was revealed. And I'm not saying there aren't any more great moments after this in the story because there are still many more to come.

The only thing that hit me harder than Ace’s death was Luffy’s reaction. After all the things he’s been through, you finally see Luffy broken

I mean it has been hinted heavily. Even back at Drum Island Dr Kureha hints that Gold Roger is not his full name. And with the way the fanbase latches onto Ds in names it would have been a bigger twist if he wasn't a D.

Proof you have a heart. I was really starting to think you were a robot or something from never showing sadness in the past, let alone tears. It's nice to see the depth of emotion towards these characters and the story and to know you're as affected by the story as so many of us were. I can't watch episode 483 without crying all over again. If Ace's "thank you for loving someone like me" doesn't get me, it's definitely Luffy's screaming cry of despair (in Japanese though).
