Ok, so Trent Ikithon..... what a diseased infested bag of dicks that guy's turning out to be! He's done nothing but manipulate everyone around him for his own self interests, from mentioning how profitable and successful Bren/Caleb would be after hearing the concerns of him leaving the farm, to telling him his dad needed him to be strong when getting the residuum implanted in his arms. I wouldn't be surprised if he encouraged the group to become closer and form a bond (maybe not lovers exactly, but you've got to imagine he knew what was going on). It's easy to control people if you've got leverage over them (like each other). This leads me to my theory that Bren/Caleb's parents were never rebels to begin with. I think Trent added their names to the list to test Caleb's allegiance, and how far he'd go. Astrid did say everything is a test with him. I think that might have been what happened with caleb's magic also. Trent may have been testing the other two, and they are the ones who took it, "stolen by someone I loved." I agree with you partially that caleb can't be at fault for murdering his family. Yes, he was kind of brainwashed and manipulated to believe that what he was doing was for the betterment of the empire and to serve his kingdom, but he could have chosen not to go through with it. It's a really shitty situation all around. Can't really blame the guy, but can't really absolve him either. Also, the sounds of the cat suffering definitely made that scene harder to watch! I'm very interested in Nott's background! She definitely lost someone important to her, possibly a child or partner, based on her actions with Toya and now Fjord. Her little speech about "[her] boy" Caleb solidified that for me. I feel like her back story will be sad also. Sorry for the novel, I'm just really enjoying this series! Great reaction, looking forward to the next!

What’s so awesome too, these super emotional story beats, the depth of the character relationships, all of it, improvised on the spot during a live storytelling game by these guys. Insane that such an immersive story can be born from an improv dice rolling game. The Caleb backstory was wild live, and Sam dropping the “my boy” monologue at the table hit like a hammer.
