yeahhh Gems don’t need oxygen. they don’t need to eat or sleep either. and for the most part are more resistant to hostile environments. because they really are just rocks/literal gemstones and their bodies are whatever they want them to be! that’s how they’re able to do shapeshifting and fusion so naturally too! as long as their gem itself isn’t physically damaged, there really isn’t any risk of life for any of them. it really is fun and interesting to see the different ways they utilize those aspects of them in the series :D

Love the theories as always! Keep them coming! I'm so looking forward to seeing the rest of the season, this show just gets better and better. Don't feel bad for being confused by Ruby and Sapphire, I think when I first saw them I wasn't sure for a little bit either. You're right that the kiss was a cheek kiss, not on the lips, and at the time it was super, super rare to have non-het relationships in kids' media. As far as Pearl saying she doesn't understand "your human relationships" I think it was twofold, one side of it being a genuine cultural gap, but most of it being her feeling torn between not wanting to tell Connie something Steven doesn't want to share, and not wanting to lie or say so directly. So it was something of a cop out, she just felt awkward being in the middle. Of all the gems (aside from Steven of course) I do think Pearl is the most human-like in her interactions with humans, Garnet can be very blunt and concise and Amythest is a chaos goblin.

In case you havent noticed, they've all reformed by this point now (except steven bc he's dirty and wears one shirt) Steven the Swordfighter: Pearl gets poofed by holopearl; comes back with an entirely new fit Jailbreak: Garnet gets destabilized by Jasper, and when Ruby/Sapphire re-fuse, her outfit is (very slightly) different. Her hair is smaller and more compact. Her shoulder pads are a different shape. Her pants are half-and-half split now. Her palette is more purple as opposed to when she was more red (so she's more evenly balanced between her ruby and sapphire).
