The High Bishop (evil Santa), was born into a high ranking noble family, but he had weak mana and was sent to the Church when he was young and never attended the Royal Academy which is required to obtain a Schtappe which is necessary to be considered a true noble. Ferdinand is a graduate of the Royal Academy and only joined the church later to avoid political problems. That and because his large amount of mana was needed to keep the church functioning properly, which includes amongst other things is providing mana for crops to grow plentifully.
