So I suddenly had my twitter shut down yesterday. Turns out Nintendo had reached out and claimed copyright on the Bowsette pics I've drawn. I've removed them from twitter, and the account is working again... for now. What this means however is that I won't be doing more Nintendo stuff, they seem very protective of their characters, even though Bowsette isn't strictly canon. Just goes to show that drawing copyright stuff is risky, even if you do a very different spin on the characters and is more inspired by them than anything else... I won't stop, but perhaps be more careful about which characters I choose to draw...

Nintendo copyright claimed it, so that means it's canon

MICHAEL

That means Futa bowsie is canon for them 😏

They scrape twitter for posts with Bowsette tags or keywords from Nintendo games and automate the copyright claims. Avoid adding any keywords and you might have better luck in the future. They always do this shit before announcements or releases, in this case I guess for the Mario Movie since Bowser has been in the trailers. They'll copyright strike Zelda art soon too before Breath of the Wild 2 to clean up the marketing and the search results for their IP.

That was an amazing art piece they jealous it looks better than there’s.

yea any one else i support here if they do nintendo stuff might use some mispelling to at least talk about it and then share the finished product in messages. But i understand if u dont do nintendo anymore, but if u realllly want to u gotta be covert :/

Oof. Glad your account hasn't been deactivated. Good thing I'm commissioning art with not-too-popular characters :P

Better play safe than be sorry after Nintendo tries to cook you alive! Makes me sad to hear such things happen to artists! I think guys from Nintendo or others forget that all those fanart helps them to sell their stuff and they didn't have to pay for it! We live in strange and weird times!

You are on their radar so just forget them. I know a guy who pretty much does work that is almost exactly like Marvel or DC and he doesn't pay for a license and his art is open and you can purchase it on his website and he has it all over his FB page. So it pretty much depends on the company. Usually if you make something about 40% different than what you are using you will be fine but people who say a certain percentage will protect are wrong. There is no magic percentage. Like if you are doing Wonder Woman make the colors slightly different and her clothes in shapes in reverse like a mirror. Some body features and of course if it is FUTA that is much different lol. PCS collectibles was trying to do a Jade Statue from one of the sexier games but the puppet masters controlling Mortal Kombat said no, too much skin I don't know how many times until all her best parts were covered completely. So things have changed in some of the gaming world.
