Soft magic gets a bit of a bad wrap by fantasy writers and readers these days, and I get why, I do! Sanderson and his contemporaries are fantastic, their book fresh and engaging, and their magic systems, well, brilliant. This is not to detract from that, but it is to offer a new perspective about where soft magic systems are strong and where hard magic systems may have less to offer.

Let me know what you think over on the Discord, which if you haven't connected to is the best way to engage with me and the community. Stay nerdy!

In Defense of Soft Magic Systems

Sharing THIS ( ) image on social media, wherever you are, would be an amazing help to getting the word out. On December 6th, I'll be livestreaming for 24 hours straight to raise money for Crisis Textline - a mental health helpline as part of their #GetOutTheNumber campaign.

Ayyyy Mr Sunday Movies is dropping by. I live in the US so time wise I don’t know if I can stop by or not. If I can’t is there a way to donate before or after?

This was great. Can you also do a defense for hard magic systems? I bring this up, since many people who categorically criticize and treat them as only complexity for complexity's sake . And not art, or worse, degraders of value. I can understand that there are many works, that DO abuse them, but there are also many that don't. I would say more, but this will turn into a rant, and also I am also not as eloquent and able to be brief as you are.
